Unfortunately, Skum is a naturalized citizen.

Although: I think the INS should look into his application, because he has since confessed that he used a student visa to get into the country to work. Skum NEVER attended any school or college on that student visa, he got it simply because it was easier to obtain than a regular work permit and he was here illegally, having LIED to get the student visa and over stayed it...and thus also lying on his application for naturalization. Not hyperbole, Not scaremongering.

The chief overarching threat is our changing climate which compounds all the other threats.

Rising damage from climate change causes more homes to become uninsurable, meaning harder to get mortgages, meaning a decline in housing prices meaning shocks to the financial system.

Trump and Musk suffer from the delusion that they are genetically superior beings. Believe me, that entire concept is crap. Trump is an unintelligent man who suffers from the delusion he’s intelligent. Musk is more intelligent than Trump, but is delusional enough to think that his money making skills enable him to assume he knows how government should function, and that he knows about subjects about which he is absolutely ignorant. Musk and Trump also share two dangerous personality disorders which are incurable and dangerous to society: malignant narcissism and sociopathy. These are people no functional society should ever empower. Hitler and Stalin both had these personality disorders, and Stalin was also extremely paranoid. These personality disorders led to the deaths of millions of people.

It just saddens me to think how many have mistaken ideas on how to defend and support America and of course am concerned if those mistaken ideas are turned into action, esp. violent action.

Our country has a long way to go in terms of justice. When it comes to drug enforcement it’s worse. I’m sure you know that when a top drug supplier is busted they loose all of their assets. Home card art etc. The government then sells these assets at auction. Do you know where the money goes? It goes into the general fund. Now if the country really wanted to end the war on drugs wouldn’t you think the money should go toward rehab facilities? But they don’t want to win that particular war, it’s too lucrative.

I love EVs, myself, at least the concept of it. I can't afford one yet, but it's on my bucket list.

There are more and more companies, besides Tesla that are producing and selling EVs. My main beef with Tesla, and by extension Elon Musk, is that he insisted that the charging stations must have his proprietary device to recharge them. As a result, we have Tesla charging stations and all other EVs charging stations. That is wasteful: we now need 2 sets of charging stations.

The guy is greedy.

My other problem with him is that concept of "self driving cars". There are just too many things that can go wrong with them, and a good many accidents have occurred.

Perhaps he envisions these cars to be more common than they are so that such a car would be able to "see" all other cars? I don't know.

Many lawsuits accuse Tesla of misleadingly portraying Autopilot as a fully self-driving system, when it actually requires driver oversight, leading to a false sense of security and contributing to crashes.

So how those swing is all that matters. When a few thousand votes out of 150 million are all that matter in an election, that is INSANE!

And can anyone have any confidence that their vote is even counted, or not changed? Can anyone have any confidence that ballots were not 'lost', or 'created'? INSANE!

And can anyone today believe that the delegate system makes any sense, where low population state votes get more credit that high population vstate votes? INSANE!

To make voting proper:

1) Funding for elections must be limited to the same amount for each candidate.

2) One person, one vote. period!

3) Electronic ballots with a Voter ID number tied to the actual voter in a secure 'safe' .

4) Voter access to the database of ballots by Voter ID, for checking.

There is nothing "free speech" about using algorithms to continuously amplify one set of political views over others. Elon is guilty of what he accused Twitter of doing.

No body knew what he was about when he first came out with Tesla. Do you know that Musk didn’t create Tesla? He bought the very small company from two engineers then fired them so he could take credit.

I didn’t know much about him but when he walked into the Twitter building carrying a sink I thought “What a dick” the more I learned about him the more he sank in my regard for the guy. Did you know that when Biden had more comments on his post during the Super Ball he had his engineers change the algorithm so he’d get more likes. Speaking of the border: Under Bush, illegal crossings went down. They remained down under two terms of Obama, and 3 years of Trump. They they started climbing quickly. They quickly climbed under Biden's first year. Then they stayed high for 2 more years. In 2024, they declined, apparently due to Biden's help from Mexico.

I would say that the evidence points to Trump doing something that cause illegal immigration to rise. - or to some other cause, not Biden.

I used to admire Musk, just because of Tesla. But I later learned that Tesla was started by two engineers. Typical engineers, knew how to design, but not how to make money or a business. So Musk, not a dummy, made promises and took over the start-up, kicking out one of the founders some time later.

Believe it or not, Musk is not an engineer, but a businessman. He could spot the obvious - it is great to own a monopoly. It is great to get government funding. So he has done both.

And, now seeing how politics can shape government policy, he is jumping up and down like a retard and taking advantage of the fools who believe Trump will do anything for the common people.

Musk raised lots of money and opportunity by cultivating an image of being a good genius. But now his image is being blown away by his corruption.

Teslas value has declined by 55%. X has lost 78%. SpaceX is being paid for by government contracts so far 20 billion dollars. There were many failures with his rockets which the government paid for. I don’t know why the government privatized our space program I think it was a mistake.

My father was in the Air Force for twenty years. He helped develop the first spy satellites many years ago. He didn’t make billions or millions from doing that. He did it for love of country.

Elon plans to cut Social Security and Medicare and other social services from the little people all the more money for him.

And I have to ask you. Don’t you think being the head of DOGE while receiving billions in contracts from the government is a conflict of interest? Given his track record with Tesla and X what qualifies him to have anything to do with running the country?

Did you know why Trump wanted to lift the spending ceiling before he was in office? Because he didn’t want it on his presidential history, he wanted it on Biden’s. And what was that extra debt spending

for? Tax breaks for billionaires and corporation. The Republicans of today are not like your dads or my dads Republicans. They are an elitist oligarchy that cleverly fooled the MAGAs. It will fail I’m just concerned about how many people will suffer these next for years.

“Reality” TV has done an immense amount of damage by selling unreality like “The Apprentice.” Trump was likely in need of more income and the show sold him like he was a serious, prosperous businessman. He is actually a fake and a con artist. One of the first things the producers did was to replace the shabby and worn furniture in Trump’s offices.

Other shows also showcased bad behavior as bringing rewards, like conniving, dirty tricks, backstabbing and undermining others. Richard Hatch won the first version of “Survivor” by doing all of these things, then went to prison after he was convicted of tax evasion. It’s hardly a surprise some people think these behaviors are acceptable. Fox News engages in the false claim that it’s mere “entertainment,” but people take their past and present reporting of lies, half-truths and misinformation seriously, and the mainstream media outlets are adopting their tactics.

Well, the rodent king is the poster child that demonstrates >exactly< what I've meant and gotten blowback for years: "Capitalism is as inherently antidemocratic and backward in every way Communism is inherently antidemocratic and backward." Backward?

In times past, all capital resources were monopolized by kings, emperors, and other royalty. The point of fighting wars of aggression was acquisition of real estate and all the capital resources that real estate could provide - including the people living there. Think of yourselves as a capital resource to a plutocrat to get a vague glimpse into the state of mind those who had to suffer living under it - and are still living under it in a large part of the world - might have felt. The kind of fealty that sort of tyrant requires is the same as willingly agreeing to being the "liege's" chattel, to be disposed of as necessary. That's how the multiply convicted felon, jury adjudicated sexual predator and serial slanderer, along with his good pal "the rodent king" view US citizens. There's high probability some "interbreeding" will come to pass - as was always common amongst royalty. Compare that with what we've been hearing advocated, of late. Compare it with "family values," as well! Capitalism is about control of capital resources, and money is but one kind of capital resource. You and yours are capital resources, as well. Never forget that.

Having said that, I included his piece because it recognizes the condition we now face, affirms that what we are seeing is the reality of the condition we now face, and his blessing is just his way of saying "hang in there and keep the faith, folks." I don't see how that could do anything but be a pep talk we all need at this juncture. I also think it important for those of us who possess the - shall I say - gift of faith, that nobody here wishes to deprive them of it, and allow their faith reinforced by a good man they may relate to, that I happen to like, as well, and generally agree with on all but one issue - the same issue you take.

Agreed. "Star Wars" and "Dune" are SciFi comments on theology. Dune is more a comment on messianic faith, whereas Star Wars is more essential, dealing with the "demiurge," which bifurcates as the light side and dark side of "the force." You see that play out in just about every major religion that comes down the pike today. Religions generally have a social side that unifies, as well as an antisocial side - the light side and dark side of the force (the demiurge). How can he be speaker doesn't the speaker have to be a citizen as he's 3rd in line for president?

Expand full comment

You'd think, but the 18th century language is vague on this point. It is "assumed" the Speaker of the House of Representatives, would be a sitting Representative of the same chamber. But it doesn't specify that in writing. The other problem of birth is sort of skirted around in Article2, Sections 4, 5, and 6. Upon removal of both President and Vice President the Speaker of the House of

Representative serves as "acting President" either until the end of the current Presidents term or a new election i called.

However this whole discussion is predicated on a continuing democracy. But the 2025ers prefer a theocratic dictatorship and a kick in the butt for the Constitution.

Expand full comment

True but they sure rammed it down our throat when Obama was president and complained he wasn't "American". Hypocrites they all are

Expand full comment

Apparently Putins propagandists started the whole Obama is not American thing. Trump picked it up. There is a straight line from Putin to Trump going back to the 1980s

The project 2025/ mAGA and extremist evangelical movements are aligned with Putin in as much as they consider a pure past, a mythical future where everything is ‘perfect’ and to get there they have to vilify people who don’t believe that, who are different. And to get there they have to repeat lies. But also tell lies that contradict the other lies. Putin did this internally in Russia regarding the Ukrainian War propaganda.

HOWEVER

The Kenyan press is enthusiastic about a “Kenya-born US President”. Has Obama ever asked them something along the lines of “look, could you just lay off about this? It makes my job so much more difficult.”

There’s some mystery about his Occidental College records too. Apparently he received scholarships only open to foreign-born students, long before he knew he would be running for President.

Despite all the back-pedalling, it can’t be denied that the Chicago agency which helped him get Dreams published referred to him as Kenya-born Barack Obama in a glossy promotional brochure.

OK, there has been a lot of exaggeration, but stuff like that makes “Obama brought the birther stuff on himself” an accurate statement.

There’s the “first Muslim President” issue as well.

Trump hyped himself as a billionaire back in the 1980s, and the tabloid press accepted his statements unconditionally. He pissed away Daddy Fred’s money on a series of bad business ventures, and the irony is that if he hadn’t been so blinded by his own ego, he really could have been the billionaire he falsely claimed to be. Trump could have invested Daddy’s money in the stock market and become a real billionaire instead of a millionaire up to his eyeballs in debt.

Bill Barr’s censorship of the Mueller Report was criminally irresponsible in light of what we know about Al-Sisi’s $10 million bribe to Trump in exchange for more favorable treatment of Egypt. The public had the right to know this to have a more accurate assessment of Trump’s corrupt behavior.

What evidence is there that Elon Musk knows anything about efficiency? His takeover of Twitter was catastrophic, firing huge swaths of people and then realizing they were needed and having to hire them back, ultimately making "X" an uglier and more deceitful platform and a sliver of its former self. Tesla can't move cybertrucks to the point they're paying people to stay home. Any NASA operation that crashed as many rockets as SpaceX would have been shut down long ago. The only thing he brings to the table is his ability to financially power through his bad decision making, the essence of inefficiency.

So let's see -- Democrats appointed 3 justices over 3 terms (1 per term) and Trump appointed 3 in 1 term. That's not equal at all.

If you extend the comparison to an equal number of terms for each party by adding in W's 2 terms in office, he appointed two so that's five... So in the last 6 terms, 3 of which were Republican and 3 were Democrat, 8 of the current 9 justices were appointed -- 3 by Democrats and 5 by Republicans.

But that's getting a little bit complicated, isn't it? So let's keep it simple -- the corrupt ones are Republicans.

There is just one problem, and that is billionaire Democrats are no more eager to see antitrust and antimonopoly enforcement than Republicans are. The old guard of the DLC thinks that we are still in the 1990s and that we can back unregulated capitalism, which is actually crushing most people. John Stoehr is correct when he notes the DLC needs to let the new guard take over, Democrats need to establish a robust media infrastructure of their own, and actually start listening to all working Americans (not just white Americans) about bread and butter issues.

The Republicans have had thirty five years to set up an alternative propaganda network, starting with Rush Limbaugh and his imitators, and then with Fox “News” and similar outlets. The Republicans falsely claim mainstream media outlets are “liberal,” but their campaigns of bitching and moaning about mainstream media outlets have been successful. They have successfully influenced mainstream media by “working the refs” and getting them to engage in faux balance and bothsidesism. Mainstream outlets are now trying to emulate Fox and its imitators and in so doing are informing people even less than before. Wingnuts have successfully taken this campaign to social media and Musk wrecked Xitter and helped to put the worst president ever back into office so that he can enable our oligarchs to loot the nation and destroy what remains of our social safety net. Trump actually intends to stay in office and govern as a dictator.

Journalist Anne Nelson also notes there are huge differences in media outlets available in urban and rural areas. In rural areas, the outlets available are right wing talk radio and Christian Nationalist radio. We don’t listen to the same sources of information and wingnuts get away with lies about Democrats or anyone who is left of center being “Socialist” or “Communist.” They have no real understanding of the proper definitions of these terms, and they have forgotten that a mixed economy that allows for private enterprise as well as a robust social safety net works best. They cling to archaic, sexist and racist ideas about who is deserving and who is undeserving, and it is destroying our polity.
