There must be consequences, whether for some one tearing down LGTBQ merchandise in Target, or who actively supported Jan 6th. If not, these things, and the ability to intimidate, grow. I don't think this can be overemphasized.

I want to add that "consequences" talk is all downstream talk, i.e.dealing with impacts. We also need to work on "upstream" conditions that lead people to act badly. The analogy is getting more cops on the beat.(downstream) but also changing the (upstream)conditions which lead to criminal behavior. We should be treating the infosphere like air and water in needing protection from pollution. I realize this is deeply problematic and even abhorrent to many. But we are drowning in BS which is harming society and our institutions, so I think we have to do something. Certainly an educated public is important , but the problem transcends that.Otherwise we likely will continue to see some sizable part of the public doing damage. There are choices between the wild west anything goes and the policed conformity of China. Every freedom is bounded by the claims of other freedoms.
