You are not interesting because your "stuff" goes on forever and ever. Why don't you go join a university and write papers for them, a place where people might actually read it! BTW: I read Bandy Lee's book when it first came out. I hope the upcoming conference on 9/27 will do some good. (That is, if a THIRD ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTER DOESN'T GET TRUMP FIRST!)

The reality of student loan - the Debt Collective was at the White House yesterday. This is debt by design and society can not function with this much suffering. It's not a crime to want a better life and education was the promise.

Yes, I would like Kamala Harris to win but (anyone could beat trump at a debate) she needs to succeed.

I'm handing YOU 40 million votes today. #CancelStudentDebt all of it.

PS) Please watch the video - the debt contract forces student who have paid for this loan over and over again due to interest. Many have paid it off - it's the interest that's the punishment and there is no reason for it.

done. The only way to continue the accelerating curve of discresionary funding going to higher education was for people to go into debt and they were accomodated by the loaners. This rather than a more difficult of restructuring education and more. This was/is a bubble if you will. Similar to the mortagage crisis of 2008. Many bad loans approved. The risk was distributed.

Yes, that is true. But the only way to make more than minimum wage or less was to get an education. Reagan made sure that the elite got it. And , no one else or discouraged. The second lady read Reagan's statement.

There is no reason in a modern society to draw the line at high school. Why not loans for high school.

During Reagan's campaign during 1966 for the governor he PUBLIClY criticized the student protestors calling them freaks, brats, and cowedly fascism.

His advisor said - we are in danger of producing an educated proletariat. That's dynamite . We have to be selective for who we allow to get a higher education. This belief has shaped the belief that has allowed the working class into higher education. Fast forward to today - we have to have debt to go to school.

Let me add - the "gifted programs" GRE exams, ACT exams, and even the IQ exam is a method to put the gates to the working class.

Don't believe me? Just facts -

Trump might as well be a two dimensional cardboard dummy; it’s the monsters hiding behind him who truly terrify me. Whatever the outcome of this election, this mad mob will carry on with their evil agenda and turn Trump into a martyr to our political system. The corrupt media/social media gleefully trumpets that agenda in all its gorey detail with no thought or editorial control of the psychological consequences they are imposing on us.

Have some compassion for his parents. Can you imagine his 4 year old tantrums? Teacher conferences?

Expand full comment

It was his parents who neglected him horribly. Three years old and left to fend for himself. The only adult was a housekeeper who had it all to do by herself. His mother in and out of the hospital with female troubles, a sociopathic father who worked day and night and showed no compassion or warmth toward his wife or children, a father who ALWAYS wore a suit -- no ease or letdown there! I can't imagine leaving my three -year-old to figure things out for himself, can you??? And his little brother, Robert, behind him. Trump was always teasing and terrifying Robert, which led to his mother finally tearing her hair out, which is why his parents forced him off to military school at age 12, was it? Trump had a loveless childhood from a very early age. And instead of seeking help and reinforcement and kindness and alternate forms of love elsewhere, thru psychological counseling, he just chose to take his childhood maltreatment out on the rest of the world forever after! I don't know where his older sister Maryann (is it? The judge . . .) was . She just died recently, but can't recall whether she was 86 or 83. At any rate, she was enough older than Donald to lend a helping hand and some basic attention to a starving child. Maybe Robert got more attention than Donald did.

Interesting comment. I have read it over and over again. It's your part about evil and cruel people leaving "long twisted shadows" that conjured up a stream of fascinating images in my mind.

One cruel and evil person in particular leaves a long, twisted "fat" shadow. However, I don't know whether shadows can actually be fat, or only described as being fat, as cast from a fat person. In any case, I like the concept of a "long twisted fat shadow". Of course there are other possibilities, such as skinny and funny shadows; endless possibilities for book and song writers.

In any case, it seems to me your phrase "long twisted shadow" would make a fantastic title to a book, song (especially a crying-in-your-beer country song) or movie. Keep up your nice work. I love it.

Thank you for your kind words, Robert. I, too, have always been fascinated by shadows and how they change shape with the hours. I like your idea to use the phrase as a potential book title; perhaps for an illustrated exploration of how shadows can reflect certain truths…

This was an excellent video! I had just gotten through commenting on a news feed about how the media treats the insanity and craziness of the orange man as if it is normal. The feed was talking about how the orange man and republicans in Congress, no less, are doubling down on this thing about Springfield and Haitians eating people's pets. The feed treated this craziness as normal news that everyone should know. I wrote in my comments that it was sad that the media is treating this complete lunacy by the orange man as if it was perfectly normal. I wrote that he was running for the highest office in our land! I questioned why anyone in the United States would want this man running our country and representing us on the global stage. I couldn't believe how many came back with yes, they would! Peggy, as an aside, changing the word "pets" to "dogs" is something that fascinates me.

Many moons ago while stationed in the Philippines I observed locals eating dog meat.

Were they eating dogs, or pets? I doubt it was the latter.

Perhaps the press should make the distinction between eating pets and eating non-pets.

BTW, I hate this entire complex, now politicized subject. Having said that, perhaps it's time to "get it on" and elevate the "pet-eating" discussion to even more importance?

Fantastic commentary, Keith Olson and Robert Reich. The thing that amazes me the most about all this is that Trumpelstiltskin was derelict in his main duty as the chief executive of the nation: protecting our citizens during the Covid-19 pandemic. Much the same as Baitonaro, Nethanyahoo and Pukin were derelict with respect to their own citizens. Owing to Trumpelstiltskin's (and by extension Baitonaro's) refusal to listen to the kind of sound scientific advice proferred by Dr. Fauci, the Americas were hit by about 2 million MAGA-deaths. If they get into office again, it'll be 2 billion MAGA-deaths from global boiling. Wake up, folks! Vote for Kamala and Tim so we can save our planet!

For the good of humanity, if Kamala Harris is elected as our 47th president I would hope that you would use your influence and exquisite presentation skills to be able to try to get her to shift over to the right side of history when it comes to things like her being a party to the brutalization of innocent children in Gaza.

Given the fact that Kamala Harris espouses to be the leader of a country whose motto is “the land of the free, home of the brave” it seems like the least she could do is to come up with the courage to stand up against this atrocious crime against humanity.

And recall from the debate, Trump told us that all those 100s of normal people who were in his previous administration were all bad - and had to be fired, every one of them. That’s about a 99% turnover rate.

His proposed leadership for his 2nd term looks less like a Transition Team and more like a giant cry for help to the world’s best mental health professionals.
