I am a constituent of Representative Rice, and have written and called her office to complain about her stand on the issue. The response in writing stated her position was that she is still in favor of Medicare negotiating prices, but that this particular proposed legislation wouldn’t do it effectively, and that she was fighting to make the legislation better. I responded that I did not think her stance made any sense and that I wouldn’t repeat the mistake I made in 2020 of voting for her if she doesn’t reverse her vote.

I find it astonishing -- and infuriating -- how pitifully little it costs to buy a politician. Kyrsten Sinema, for example, has gotten $520,000 from Big Pharma. That amounts to only 13 cents per registered voter in Arizona. That's her total take since 2012; in 2019-2020 she got $120,000, a paltry 3 cents per voter. That's all it costs to overturn the will of 90% of the electorate.

Why aren't progressives able to muster the financial resources to outbid Big Pharma in the competition for political influence? More fundamentally, why should they need to? We don't select our legislators by auction; we vote. Why do people keep getting duped into electing politicians who could care less about their constituents' interests and welfare?
