Not only is Harris and Walz so positive, but truly Donald Trump has become unhinged and his handlers can do nothing to modify his rants or his firehose of lies. Trump is in a panic because he faces possible jail time..

founding

Euphoria aver the Harris Walz ticket is a great boost, but we must keep in mind that in the U.S. money is power and the money is now mostly in the hands of the ultra wealthy. A Harris Walz win will be a disaster for the ultra wealthy monopolists and they will be investing millions upon millions to defeat Harris and Walz.. Trump is a firehose of lies, but the ultra wealthy are not unhinged. They will be hiring the best and the brightest minds to swamp the media with fear of what a Democratic win would mean for the common person and they will not be constrained by truth. Enjoy the current euphoria and at the same time be prepared for a major battle. This is going to be an interesting few months we will all have to dig in to save our democracy.

Expand full comment

Marc, I would submit, to contextual the “euphoria,” we credit our ticket with a feature sorely missing for some time—brilliant messaging. Our candidates are effectively amplifying the current administration’s achievements, eloquently presenting a clearly articulated vision moving forward, and decisively prosecuting the case against Trump and Vance. My one suggestion would be to modulate the joy for the 60% living precariously from paycheck to paycheck, wherein family income is only sustained by more people working longer hours while still weighted down by mortgage debt, credit card debt, and the like..

My point is that if ever there were a team sufficiently positioned to disallow the distortions and deceptions of their opponents to go unanswered, it’s Harris and Walz. To be clear, I’m not advocating complacency. I’m simply saying, for the first time in a long time, we’re prepared for the fight.

And are we prepared! Oh, yes. It's been a long time coming.

Expand full comment

Thank you! MESSAGING! I would add the Harris-Walz brilliance at social media messaging as well. Sorely missing for some time, as you say, Barbara Jo. I understand your comment about moderating the joy, but isn't it the joy of hope? And the paycheck-to-paycheck people (of which I am one) can take joy in the hope the Harris-Walz ticket foretells. And although I don't want to be negative, the way Walz and some of the senators (set up by the campaign, I think and hope) are attacking the nutsy statements by Vance, is GREAT! Mr. Biden is so wonderful and kind, he never said a word to defend himself. But Americans like a fighter, so Tim Walz should attack (along with secure Democratic senators and governors as surrogates). For instance: every time Vance attacks Walz for "only" serving 24 years in the National Guard, one of the Democrats should attack Trump for being a draft dodger. Trump evaded the draft 5 times, I believe. Finally he fabricated a bone spur in his foot to get out of the draft entirely. No such bone spur. No medical records. I want to see headlines about Trump being a despicable draft dodger, every time I read an article about Vance attacking Walz for "only" serving--faithfully and patriotically--in the National Guard for 24 years. (Plus Vance never saw combat; he worked for some military newspaper.)

True! But while Harris/Walz should easily win the popular vote, our backward (and un-Democratic) system elects the President via the Electoral College. Then, even if they if they do win both the House and Senate, real change will be difficult to achieve since the Ultra wealthy will still hold the purse stings of both parties elected officials. “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Therefore, what we ultimately need is term limits for both (as well as for the SCOTUS).

A completely new strategy has to be initiated to confront the inundation of corporate funding against political candidates that corporations don’t like. When someone like Bush is attacked, Bush would have to start running a series of cheap ads (I don’t know how much cheap ads would cost) that publish on a daily basis the amount of money the corporation, for example, AIPAC has put into opposition campaigning to date. In addition, the ad should say clearly why the corporation is putting so much money into trying to defeat her. The reason in Bush’s case is to shut her up because she is demanding a cease-fire in Gaza. Those cheap, information-only ads should broadcast those two pieces of information: amount of money opposition is spending on shutting her up and exactly why they want to shut her up.

Fundamentals. Trump lost 2020 by 7 million votes. This time, Gen Z, who are 25% of the electorate, trend 70% Democratic. Seniors, who voted 51% for Trump in 2020, have passed away at high rates, due to, among other things COVID. So there should be more Harris voters and fewer Trump voters.

Women are 52% of voters, trend Democratic. 34% of the U.S. population are renters, trend heavily Democratic.

Trump is the worst candidate of all time. He's now the oldest presidential candidate in history. Also the craziest, and every day, he gets more bizarre.

Meanwhile all politics is local. If we win the blue wall and one other state, we win the presidency. Down here in Baghdad By the Sea, a new poll in our county shows Harris ahead by 14 %...." found Harris winning several key voting blocs in Miami-Dade, including 55% of women and 52% of men. Among non-Cuban Hispanic voters, 58% said they plan to support Harris compared to 38% who are backing Trump. Trump still holds the lead among Cuban Americans, who have historically backed Republican candidates; 61% said they will vote for the former president, while 33% plan to support Harris, according to the poll."

In all honesty, I was very surprised by the amazingly positive response to Harris as the Democratic choice. I was afraid that the country was not ready (once again) for a woman President.

I was all for her and knew that she was the one who could bring Trump to his knees. Why? Because I watched and remembered the Senate hearings where she stone-colded Barr and Kavanaugh. We were not shown that side of her as Vice President —she worked behind the curtains in support of Biden’s agenda— that was her job.

Kamala is a great deal more than smiles and laughter. This scares Trump into numbness.

Now, this is going to sound crazy, but I think that we have become very tired of old men, and for the last 7+ years Trump, running our country from the side lines.

Biden has been our Good President in office and Trump has been the evil Maga President in exile telling Congress what to do or not do.

Biden accomplished so much for the good, our nation and the world, but it has been lost in the Maga noise covered by the mainstream media.

Who needs Fox when you have the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post running every move of Trump as news and Biden as just old?

Now, the majority of Americans want and welcome a strong, very bright woman with a Midwestern “Coach Walz” as her running mate—perfect! They express a positive and hopeful future after 7 years of Biden fighting Trump and his Maga Congress and Senate.

Bottom Line: Defeat Maga. Democrats have to win up and down the ticket in November.

I'm his age, and yesterday, I attended a spontaneous party of women making home-made campaign signs! The energy is unbeatable, and for everyone concerned that our public schools are headed for oblivion, Walz is a welcome tonic.Kinda reminds me of that old country song, "Release me, and let me love again."

It's an old song (1946) I love; here is one version of it by Ray Price . . .

Haven’t watched and have 13 words:

Hope and change give rise to joy and justice over fear and facism.

Or simply

Joy and Justice over

Fear and Fascism.

Oh my goodness! The energy you two gave out today was absolutely palpable! So much hope and optimism! I found myself interjecting my opinions into your conversation! It is so hard to believe that it has only been three weeks! I have a renewed enthusiasm for sending out my post cards! I can comment on news feeds positively and I am signing petitions like a mad woman! The joy and positivity Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are sending out is bringing a fresh wave of hope for our Democracy! Watching the orange man completely melt down has been epic! My sister told me I shouldn't be so happy about that, I should feel bad for him. I know in my heart she is probably right and I'll be in the explaining line for a while before I can get into heaven, but after all of the fear and worry that man has put our country through, I simply cannot help it! At every opportunity when commenting on the orange smear, I let his MAGA cult know that their dear leader is old, suffering from dementia, can't string two words together to make a coherent sentence and is replaying the same old tired nonsense over and over again! I would truly love to see some consequence for the musk man for inciting the horrific violence in the UK! I certainly will not be watching his interview with the orange man. I have stated before that I hope and pray Kamala Harris will keep Lena Kahn in place as she is doing what has been needed doing to these monopolies for quite some time! A delightful Coffee Klatch, Professor Reich and Ms. Lofthouse! Thank you for starting my day out with a spring in my step and a smile on my face! Vote blue, America!

It’s a combination of ‘all of the above’. It is what many voters were looking for and it came together at the right time!

HUGE DANGER OF TRUMP WINNING DUE TO VOTER SUPPRESSION!

The biggest threat to democracy right now is VOTER SUPPRESSION on a vast scale never seen before. 💥It’s very possible for Trump to win if this is not stopped!💥Hundreds of Thousands of “Vigilante Vote Challengers” have been deployed by MAGA to swing states to purge voter rolls of all likely Democrats, especially Blacks, people of color, the elderly, youth and many others, without any proof of fraud. For example, 160,000 voters, mostly Black, were purged in Ohio. For information, see gregpalast.org and voteractionproject.org.

Secretive Christian nationalist "charity" ZIKLAG is purging millions of legitimate voters! search "propublica+ziklag” (without quotes). Using artificial intelligence, they delete thousands of registrations at once.

Purging voter registrations is just one form of many forms of voter suppression. Hundreds of new laws make it make it much harder to register in the first place and even harder to actually cast a ballot if you make it that far!

For info and to support a Harris/Walz win check out voteractionproject.org

Demand that President Biden, using his new immunity protection, overturn these purges and require valid reasons to challenge someone's voting rights. Spread the word: help fight voter suppression!

Probably won't work for President to overturn state actions.

Federal laws can supercede state laws. Like abortion (whether for or against)

The Harris/Walz ticket will win because there are more good people in this country than ignorant ones who lost the ability to see the truth.

Yes, Donald! Harris and Walz are the real Americans--young, confident, unafraid. We the people will vote for them.

Kamala's successful transition to presidential candidate has turned a gloomy situation of near certain demise of Democracy in the US to a joyous situation of its possible survival. Hope does not ever "spring eternal", rather it must always have a plausible source. Go Kamala/Walz!!! And, as suggested in another post, we need to put a collar on those of the puppy press that fawn over Trump in adoring submission, while corruptly adVancing against Kamala.

Not only a "near certain demise of Democracy"; but also fear of what would replace it and how much violence would ensue in the process. The press, as you indicated is a massive problem in that they treat Trump with far more respect than he deserves. (I never got to Europe.)

In part, the reason the Harris-Walz team has inspired so much enthusiasm is because of the anxiety that was building about the seemingly frail confrontation Biden had been mounting against Trump. For weeks people were genuinely worried about what was going to happen. Then suddenly Biden handed the much-touted baton to Harris and Harris ran with it like a champion. Add to that the stellar qualities of Harris' smart choice for VP. With Walz, she seems to have an unbeatable team. Compounding enthusiasm is the obvious fact that the Trump-Vance ticket has not yet found its footing – not that they have any footing to find – and the Democrats have for the first time in a long time political fireworks lighting up the skyline. No wonder everybody is excited and Trump disgruntled, so disgruntled he's decided to stuff the hype about his ear.

This positive energy can continue right through November if we keep focusing on it. Right wing media only wants to cover Trump--and cover up his increasingly demented word salads. I keep posting about all the good things Pres. Biden accomplished for us. I keep posting about the importance of voting for Kamala Harris/Tim Walz if we want to keep our democracy.

Expand full comment

Exactly, Irishcoda! If the media is so intent on covering the orange man constantly, it is our job to make sure everyone knows about Kamala Harris and Tim Walz! We must do everything we can to ensure their victory in November!!!

Kamala might not have been my first choice, but now she is the ONLY choice that will leave the PEOPLE of the multicultural nation known as the USA any real choice to retain a shread of liberty.

No we aren't free, and Kamala can't give us complete freedom, but Kamala will work to restore the legitimate freedoms we had. Kamala will work to broaden the economic liberty that the middle class had. Kamala will help others see that like love, freedom is fake if it's not for everyone.

Kamala understands that freedom from having to consider the freedoms of others is no freedom at all, but a poison to the soul.

Kamala knows that the freedom from having to look around and notice what's happening is also no freedom. As humans with liberties, we have an obligation to look out for, help and educate others.

Until we are educated and enlightened enough for total liberation, a liberal, progressive agenda is the best we can do.

I wish the Democratic Party had been more Democratic about how Kamala was annointed. I'm still unhappy about how they treated Bernie. But we have to work with what we have.

Let's do what we can do make Kamala POTUS!
