"Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls. They got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying. Lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I’ll tell you what they don’t want. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests.” George Carlin 2006.

Putin, Trump, Xi and all of the other world dictators owned by oligarchs and corporations will run the world if Trump is elected. Then the world will fall into different alliances between iron fisted dictatorships. Eventually they will quarrel between themselves and war with nuclear weapons will happen. All us worker bees will be destroyed but the corrupt corporate oligarchs and families will live on. It’s like a bad plot to a sad novel but all too possible!

PUTIN and MUSK: When Elon Musk purchased Twitter I read this Dave Troy article highlighting the alignment between Elon Musk and Putin. Troy put forth that Musk's goal in purchasing Twitter was not to make money, but to control the information space and reshape the global world order. Musk is aligned with Putin in desiring a "multipolar world order." Musk is antidemocratic, believing advances in society are made through "technocracy" and at best democracy should be managed by smart people like Musk and his "technical managers" (eerily similar to Putin's "methodologists"). According to Troy, Musk would ultimately like to move back to a gold standard and replace the dollar with cryptocurrency and government with an app! Also, Musk's "long-termism" is about humanity's future in space--hence his disregard for social, climate, and political ills here and now. [Troy is a tech entrepreneur, disinformation specialist and investigative journalist who shares the same tech world as Musk, Dorsey, and their supporters.] When I read Troy's article I found it a bit above my pay grade. However, I follow Troy as he continues to write about the threat to democracy. Yesterday it was reported Russia is using Musk's Starlink in Ukraine. I watch what is going on with disinformation and media this past week. I now agree fervently with Troy's final conclusion in that first article I read about the Twitter acquisition: "None of this is a joke, none of the old rules apply, and we would be well-advised to treat this as the threat it really represents." I attach the original Troy article that I can't shake, though I enthusiastically refer you to his writings since. https://bylinetimes.com/2022/11/07/musks-twitter-buy-makes-no-sense-unless-its-part-of-something-bigger/

Insulting the intelligence and lack of education of a people who are bombarded with right-wing propaganda that infects our news media and social discourse, especially when public education is constantly underfunded and then attacked by the same right-wing propagandists year after year... I don't think that's fighting fair. We're not any less intelligent now than we were when Johnson's Civil Rights bill was passed. We're not any less intelligent now than we were when we elected Barrack Obama as President. Our electorate is besieged and beguiled, but it is not incapable of defending democracy. WE need to accept OUR responsibility and bring the message to OUR people; that message is that OUR democracy is under threat and WE need to stand up to protect if from the neo-fascist MAGA Republicans and their oligarchic benefactors, including Putin.

True that there are many examples of "who we are" that are shameful. But, I argue that it's not who we are that's the problem, it's what we're being force-fed and how we've been miseducated. It's just not useful to insult the intelligence of the electorate. It invites anti-democratic arguments while simultaneously fueling nonsensical tit-for-tat exchanges that pass for debates. You're correct that too much of the public has been pulled into the culture wars by their own fears and prejudices, but calling them stupid is just not helpful.

I'd go further, to a true lexicographical (< damn me if that's the wrong word) edge:

Look at your change. Look at your bills. Try to find the word 'freedom'. Another 7-letter word stands in its place--'liberty'. Difference? Surely. As to how it got there and stayed I have yet to discover. Never mind the confusion between the two that even extends to the OED. As they apply here, 'freedom' relates to the forthright independence and separation of the original 13 states that led the the shambles wrought by the Articles of CONfederation. 'Liberty' refers here to the--may I say adult--realizing that by voluntarily surrendering enough of that freedom to make a workable Federation. Both words need reflection, but I can say that when I hear 'freedom' evoked, I cringe a little; it has an adolescent tinge. William Safire wrote a piece on the differences, which I'd lost and recently found. Forgetting it was him, I re-researched the ideas. Say, is Freedom a Platonic ideal? If so, his crowd must have had fun with it ..

I should add a second response I just thought of: A reasonably intelligent high school and college friend's family voted Republican, so he did. This was in the '60s-'70s. We'd have disagreements about his voting for Nixon a second time, over some convenient pants wetter conservatives love to destroy. Anyway, when pressed as to why, he'd say, 'Well, I dunno ..' and trail off. Nothing could be worse than hearing that sort of disconnect, from a voter yet ..

Celia, an excellent comment, thank you. A real eye opener, well worth spreading around. I just wish you could have broken it up into two or three paragraphs, it would have made it more readable.

The gold standard is a Marxist and Libertarian wet dream, there is not enough gold in the world to use as a standard. Arthur Kitson, a 19th Century Economisit, took on Marx when he wrote A Fraudulent Standard.

Russia, because it was Marxist, was on a gold standard. They defined a ruble as .9871 grams fine gold, and only printed enough rubles as there was gold on hand, result was a perpetual shortage of rubles and a perpetual depression, long lines for bread and meat and no consumer goods produced, which they blamed on the cold war as a scapegoat.

There were seven banks in the Soviet Union, and a central bank called the GoSBank, however the citizen could not redeem rubles for gold, but a foreigner could present rubles at the NordBank in Paris and demand gold, which reduced the supply of gold, and exacerbated the Depression.

Soviet customs rigorously searched all outgoing luggage for rubles, as it was a crime to smuggle out rubles, in bound luggage was screened only for "subversive literature) and they welcomed the import of consumer goods.

As a Technocrat (with a capital "T"), I must explain the difference between what is represented as Musk's take on "technocracy" (his grandfather was one of the early Technocrats), and the term as conceived by the Technocracy organization, founded in 1933 and one of the most significant social movements of the 1930's and 1940's (it dwindled after the war-funded economic "boom" of the post-WWII years, which, tragically, has been a linchpin of our debt-structured economy ever since).

Technocracy's original conception was based on a 14-year study of industrial trends performed at Columbia University starting in 1918, following the end of WWI. Facing the return of hundreds of thousands of veterans seeking jobs, and the fact that production continued in their absence, It concluded that the ongoing replacement of human labor by machines (accelerating even as this is written) would cause disruptions in purchasing power. To distribute the increase in production made possible, the economy would go into a perpetual debt spiral (which also happened, and is continuing with no end in sight - one major reason for the social stress we are witnessing). The organization also pointed out the pointless waste of energy and resources, and environmental destruction, brought about by the need to supply disposable products to promote repeat sales.

These revelations (validated by the Holland study in 1961, which revealed that the total amount of goods and services required by the country could be produced by ten percent of the work force), were prematurely released to the public and the Technocracy organization was formed in 1933 to promote a hastily-assembled design for addressing these changes - a "technocracy", or government based on fact rather than opinion, an economy based on physical reality rather than the vagaries of finance. It involved replacing monetary valuation with the energy cost of producing goods, and providing each citizen with equal access to the production through energy "certificates" (think EFT now, without the debt). These certificates were issued exclusively periodically, based on previous consumer usage, and money would be phased out (no more amassing financial power - quite the opposite of Musk's take on the term, and of his and others' financial control over people's lives). Private corporations would become public property, managed by those most qualified in their fields: a sort of scientific socialism, as it were, with no more billionaires or zillionaires.

Colonization of Mars is a scam. At .38ge the Martian gravity is not strong enough to hold an atmosphere of lighter gases like oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen to it's surface.

We live in a very thin film of an atmosphere, it essentially disappears at above 30,000 ft, and liquids, including blood boil off higher than that, and that is the reason that jet pilots and astronauts wear pressure suits and undergarments.

The gravitational pull of the center of the earth, pulls these molecules towards it, and they pile up on each other at the surface (aka atmospheric pressure) if the Earths gravitational pull was as weak as Mars, then our atmosphere would drift off into space, spun off by the centrifugal force at the equator.

Water is made up of these lighter gases, hydrogen and oxygen, and the only place unaffected by the centrifugal force of the planet are the poles and subsurface.

It is gravitational pull that creates atmosphere, the stronger the gravity the more capable it is of binding lighter molecules like hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen to the surface and create an atmosphere that can sustain animal life.

Lighter gravity (.38ge) means that after a prolong stay on Mars, the body would lose bone mass, as there is no longer the atmospheric/gravitational pressure on it that requires larger bones, to anchor the muscles, tendons and ligaments needed to perambulate.

NASA knows it, science knows it, dentists know it, but it is not even discussed.

Decrease gravity and you decrease bone mass, because you decrease stress on the bones by muscles, tendons and ligaments.

When your dentist pulls teeth, the jaw bone were the teeth were anchored, recedes because there is no longer any stress on the jaw bone.

An aveerage human can leap maybe 18 inches from standing still, in a .38ge he will be able to leap 6 ft or more, and each step he takes would have him bound many feet into the air, and thus blow through any habitat walls or ceiling unless he/she wore weights, like a deep sea diver.

Children born on Mars would be spindly and short, spindly legs and arms, large heads and eyes (adjusted to the Martian atmosphere of carbon dioxide, and perpetual twilight.

Right: Mars habitation is just another distraction from our real task — to ensure that the earth stays livable.

"The government" is ours to criticize and shape so long as we are a democracy. I'll admit that the billionaires and big corporations and banks have way more influence in our current set-up than we do. But, we do still have power; the would-be oligarchs are wanting to take what power we have so that they can have it all. We can't let them. Trisha, Virginia, J.P., George Carlin and even our own R.R are painting a pretty grim picture of what seems to be an unescapable future based on the failures of Mainstream Media to tell it like it is.

What it is , is a bare knuckles, even brass knuckles campaign coming upon us and Donald Trump and the nasties in his entourage and propaganda department have made it so. In the face of this barage of attacks and propaganda, the response of the Democratic media machine has been an utter failure. J.P., if you are going to quote George Carlin saying “They got you by the balls,” I would say that the polite and civil Democratic media machine have handed them their “balls" on a platter.

This campaign is not one of civil discourse, of convincing educated voters that one approach makes more sense than another. Trump and his propagandists have turned what we thought should be a battle of intellects into an all out gloves off boxing match and Trump has the P.R. people and spin artist machine in operation to put this contest into the boxing ring with no rules rather than a gentleman’s debate between two sparring intellects. (Remember when Trump left his podium to stand menacingly behind Hillary Clinton during that presidential debate?)

If Biden is going to win it is not going to be that his approach and arguments make more sense or that MSM will suddenly change their stripes. The Democrats will have to build a propaganda machine that will tower over Trumps propaganda machine. They need to highlight every outrageous thing Trump has said and done since he entered politics and before and they need to repeat these expose's over and over. The Biden team needs to hire the best and brightest strategists and P.R. people that exist on the planet.

Joseph Biden is by far a better man, and a very capable President, but he is not a fighter ready to take on an Orange Menace in the boxing ring. So, he will have to compensate by hiring a P.R. staff that is ready to fight in the boxing ring of today’s depraved politics and score knockout punch after knockout punch until Trump is the one that looks weak. That is what MSM and the uneducated and uniformed voters are looking for.

Joseph Biden not in favor of violence, and to avoid violence it is sometimes necessary to hire those who will stand up to the playground bullies and respond to them where it hurts, their illusion of invincibility. For this he will need the best, brightest and most aggressive “hired guns” out there.

To sum up my diatribe, I am thoroughly frustrated with the tepid responses of Biden’s current Campaign and “Image Makers.” Trump has given them so much ammunition, why are they not using it?

I came across that fact also...I have to ask why after 40+ years haven't they been able to do anything about telemarketers and robo calls. Many years ago, I worked with an individual who headed up a government program in upstate NY to list in one place, all the telephone #'s of all the individuals within the US along with other more personal info. All secret hush hush nonsense. This info was never supposed to be made public or for sale to any marketing company under contracted conditions with major penalties. It was openly marketed before the study was ever even completed. The reality is there's always noise and news about reactions but never real solutions to the problems for the most part. There is never enough good government (numbers of enforcement personnel) to affect the change that is needed. Many reasons for that fact involving many factors. Modifying the behavior of 300+million individuals within a country the size of the US is a daunting task and for many reasons we haven't never been able to do so, although oddly enough we do know haw to do it as history has taught us...we just don't seem to have the collective motivation.

Expand full comment

Henry ; I posted earlier that the fake telephone message sent in New Hampshire featuring the AI 'voice' of President Biden telling voters to stay home, has been traced to two places from which these robo calls had been made. So they found the culprits! Now fines and consequences will follow. I was buoyed up to see the article. It's more than the nuisance of spam; it's the threats to our Democracy that I like to see averted, or diminished, at least with heavy penalities! deterrence will help, if they know it can be traced. The international calls may be more difficult, But if there is a will, there is a way.

So, use our voice. Get in touch with them. And use our voice to tell them we won’t be here forever voting for them if they don’t shape up.

And use our voice — our vote — to get better legislators in office {to do that, we have to convince OTHER voters to get behind those better legislators … HENCE, talking on forums like this, and working on ‘get out the vote’ efforts … }

J. P., What I most appreciate about this particular diatribe is that embedded in Carlin’s condemnation of politicians is its solution—that maybe never in the history of this country has the necessity for an acutely informed and engaged electorate, both recognizing its very existence is under assault while also training itself to resist said blitz, been more evident. I would submit the same largely is true of Reich’s newsletters.

Yes, we need a population with critical thinking skills. Where are they going to learn them? The school voucher system is taking over the south. Our public schools are in massive disarray, and the teachers there are hamstrung from the kind of solid teaching I got as a kid from laws passed by Republican governors. I have never seen this country in such bad shape when it comes to democracy for "we the people." I'm terrified of November and what might be shoved down our unwilling throats. It's a good way down already, and I'm choking to death.

Expand full comment

Theo, Circling back to my comment’s recognition that the current system is under assault and that we must resist the blitz, I take heart from the increasing number of Democrats who increasingly are mobilizing at the state and local levels to fill positions with their own people. I, further, would note much of this shift has been inspired by 3 southern political lightening rods—Tennessee Reps Justin Jones and Justin Pearson and the Rev. William Barber of North Carolina—all of whom, among a host of policy priorities, especially have prioritized public education funding.

I suppose my point is that we have to be willing to engage in a war we must win.

A peaceful overthrow of the oligarchs. Their influence needs to be throttled down. I'd start by taxing their wealth to pay for the needs of the many. After all, they have stolen the money by writing the tax laws themselves and installing the judges that would protect the theft.

The "revolution" could continue by changing election laws to match those of Australia. Strange to think that the established legal structure of another country would feel revolutionary here. But that is the case, IMO.

Try this on for size (stolen from a comment in the NY Times by an Aussie named "David Sciascia").

Australia's electoral safeguards:

1. An Electoral Commission that runs our state and federal elections, draws up our electoral districts

2. Automatic voter registration (when someone turns 18) with names held on a national database

3. Elections are held on a Saturday so the whole community can turn out with their families to vote. (Which is compulsory anyway)

4. A preferential or ranked choice voting system (similar to the one adopted by Alaska last year. (Already in place in Maine and moving forward in Massachusetts.)

5. A far more democratically representative senate

6. Term limits on High Court Judge appointments (our SCOTUS)

7. Strict limits on political ad spending

Our present situation is not unlike the post feudalism period of Europe, when the landed gentry owned everything and most of the population were tenant farmers. In having a monopoly on the land i.e. the means of production, they gained tremendous political power while the tenants lived on a subsistence level and had no political power. Instead of resisting this, those members of the Republican Party who are not part of the one percent, are aiding this present movement towards post feudalism. So what happens if they succeed? Is the next step full blown feudalism? Will we become serfs to the oligarchs? How far can the G.O.P. regress the social order? As far as we will let them.

If it is a man, on the other hand, we rarely even know her name: She is dismissed as secondary, of no import. But behind every man, there is a woman.

I think the very first mistake is in thinking Tovarich МАГАт a moron. He liked to say he's a "stable genius." I'm willing to grant he may be a genius - an evil genius. After all, it's the morons and opportunists, the useful idiots whose hearts & minds he's captured, and captured seemingly instinctively. The Democrats - Hillary in particular - have already demonstrated and paid dearly for what comes of short-selling him. Sell Tovarich МАГАт short at your peril! I'll not contradict a word you say here. That's what makes them useful idiots. Someone in the Kremlin must've noticed all the "Forget, Hell!" (over a Confederate flag) bumper stickers on cars in and around the DC area, particularly in VA, back at least to the time of Nixon and figured it was a vulnerable target audience. And what is there to say about Gerry Falderal, and his radio religious propaganda ministry, a scant 80 miles from the White House at the time of Carter and thereafter, while Carter's wife was the bible-basher who tried to show Jerry Flint the error of his ways during an airplane flight that was in all the news. Agreed, Carter was a nice man who worked hard for world peace for the rest of his life after the White House. That doesn't mean he was an effective president, nor does it mean that he wasn't potentially the first useful idiot to reside there. After all, he paved the way for Reagan - the first "Mephisto" to serve the "Forget, Hell!" crowd in the White House - thus paving the road to hell with dark intentions to this day. 👍

This is what happens when you let gangsters govern, because they are used to handle billions. And in Russia they murder the critics, but Trump has already told us that he will follow his Kremlin friend.

This is what could happen to us if we allow that orange man into the White House!! This man not only insults our military, now he has started insulting our closest allies!! Were he to get back into the White House and we were attacked, not one NATO country would give assistance because he would have pulled out of NATO. You see, he doesn't realize that NATO countries are united against allowing a dictatorial piece of excrement like Putin to invade countries that are Democratic and thriving. Our alliance with NATO began in 1949 when President Truman and Secretary Acheson signed the Instrument of Accession. We are a founding member of NATO!! We did that to provide collective security against the soviet union!!! I am sick of politicians and candidates who do not have even a thimble full of knowledge about the history of our country and the world!! Someone needs to give all of these idiots a tour of the death camps in Eastern Europe, the graveyard of our ships at Pearl Harbor, Arlington Cemetary, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and other places that would show these extreme idiots that we must always side with our allies against the pure evil that is Putin and was Hitler. My theory of Trump-Putin plan to grab Ukraine

>>> as of March 2022 (but even more true today)

(including reasons for the treasonous Jan 6th insurrection and Putin's praise of Trump now)

1. Putin and the Russian mob have been lusting after the resources of Ukraine for years.

Yanukovich failed. Even better if there are NO UKRAINIANS LEFT to interfere with the mob's rape of Ukraine. Thus, the ongoing GENOCIDE.

2. To successfully steal democratic Ukraine, NATO must be neutralised or weakened significantly.

3. Seeing an opportunity to get a Russian stooge, Trump, into the White House would mean a possibility of prising the USA out of NATO.

4. The long term planning was set for early 2022 to invade Ukraine.

5. However, Trump flubbed it and lost.

6. So by any means possible, including insurrection, false electors, ballot ninja shenanigans etc, Trump (and many, many GOP and Russian-paid or blackmailed agents) must get another crack at getting the USA out of NATO before the tanks roll.

7. Trump continues to serve his master, the Russian mob, to this day, still trying to overturn the election, but just too late.

8. Note that Trump will surely flee to Moscow before being quietly arrested in the USA, but not as a Hero of the New Putin USSR.

They watched Desert Storm in 1991, then the start of Shrub’s made up excuse of an invasion of Iraq. The Russian military is fully aware what a united NATO or even a part of a U.S. included NATO is capable of. They’re terrified.

His best friend is our worst enemy.

Something is a foot. We are facing a peril most are completely unaware of. We all know Trump is unpredictable even on a good day. Currently SCOTUS has a decision to make. It's centered around Trump's contention that a President must have immunity in order to fulfill his duties, effectively. This idea is dangerous in so many ways and yet it seems to be a common thread in everything the man says. Looking at Donnie Boy's mental health, one would expect parameters to be in place set to control a man that seems to be uncontrollable. A question was offered to the EX-President, could Presidential immunity be used to erase a fellow politician that was proving to be a hindrance with respect to the plans you might have in place. We know how Trump answered that one, which is a bit unsettling to me. Now consider this, if SCOTUS sides with Trump and they grant uncontrolled immunity to a President, that opens a door to the previable parallel dimension where Mr. Trump is God. Then, if by some slim chance Trump does get reelected there would be absolutely no boundaries to constrict his efforts, no one would be safe. SCOTUS will have given the fool a license to kill, 007 may not be dead after all. This country could very possibly drown in a blood bath.

I wonder if Trump's recent words might've swayed any justices to turn against Trump. Does a majority of the Supreme Court feel greater alliance with Russia than with Europe? I should hope not! DZK--Ask Putin how he felt about the break-up. He was hiding with a group of fellow Russians as they watched a crowd that had surrounded the building where he was hiding. Putin thought he was going to be overrun by the mob and killed. Feeling a bit ballsey he went out to greet the noisy onlookers. The aggressiveness he showed at that moment paved the way for him to be where he is today. A magician maybe, but I see him more as a gutsy 37-year-old KBG lieutenant who grabbed the reins and run that horse until it dropped. I don't applaud the man, but his will to hold the country he loved together is explementary.
