I was just going to bring that up Jeff. We have two
world-wide, humanity disrupting forces coming together at the same time: climate change and AI. It’s possible AI can help us survive climate change,
but we certainly can’t count on it.
The most disturbing thing about climate change is how it’s being ignored by highly intelligent, highly educated and sophisticated people, because dealing with it, mitigating its impact, will lower their profits.
In other words, they are consciously risking the survival of billions of people in order to enrich themselves until they are forced to stop, and we in the U.S. are accessories to their crime against humanity because we aren’t forcing them to do what we know must be done.
The looming threat of climate change probably makes this discussion about AI moot, because organized governance of large populations will
likely be overwhelmed by serial disasters. Once
upon a time leaders planned ahead for their
communities and the community supported it.
For example, when I was a child in the 1960s in Phoenix, our leaders planned ahead to ensure this area would have water to support and sustain a
large population. People who lived here
understood what needed to be done and willingly
paid more taxes to accomplish it. I doubt that
would be the case today. Divisive propaganda and disinformation are being used as tools to manipulate us into fighting with each other, resulting in a planned breakdown of what should be shared goals.
If republicans get and hold power, they will continue to facilitate the breakdown of our society in order to confiscate wealth and accumulate more power for themselves. So actually, we have not two potentially overwhelming forces coming together, we have three.
