Robert is not being academic, he’s pointing to an enormous threat to American democracy, equal to gerrymandering.
From abroad (the UK in my case), we are watching the submersion of democratic America. Trump is the noisy, chaotic buffoon on stage, to distract while the foot soldiers (justice, media, taxation) do the serious work.
You need your traditional media to feel the heat, to be pushed into reform. You need to do more than subverting by voting with your feet. They need to be made to face the consequences of their actions. You need to sweep the mid-terms, and to turn the heat on the media listed by Robert.

Well certain justices may have made abandoning the Constitution 'legal'. But if they may be taken to task for everything they each have done while on the bench. We might have a case to overturn many of their decisions. As I understand it there are instances and evidence of accepting valuable gifts and trips, as well as the employing and paying of justices' wives by certain parties, while they had cases before the Supreme Court. Would love to see Dems questioning everyone involved about that, after we get the Congress back! :-)
Interestingly, the SC with their latest "Throw out precedent and just make things up!" approach to jurisprudence leaves the field open for whatever the next version of the court feels like doing. The rampant corruption and partisan hackery of the court have pretty much erased any aura of legitimacy it ever had. Unfortunate really, but it may force congress to go back to legislating instead of just passing the buck to the SC or admin. Not that the outcomes will necessarily be any better, but at least the miscreants can be voted against, rather than endured until the grim reaper shows up.

And while many offer free subscription on places like Substack it’s understandable the independent news need funds. So Americans now are simultaneously funding the demise of our democracy through our squandered taxes and then paying again to get legitimate information. I added up nearly $600 of subscriptions the other month. And yes, I cancelled some when I realized how much I was spending. This is on top of every Democratic candidate and the DNC asking for money. The Iranian LEGO videos are still free.
What is happening is that "Democracy is dying in plain sight." Darkness has already fallen on the Washington Post which coined the slogan "Democracy dies in darkness" and it seems the destruction of a free press continues unabated. The only reliable news and commentary will come from the independent letters like RR's, and HCR, Hubbell, Paul Krugman, Joyce Vance, etc. But sub scribing to all becomes increasing expensive. Can they consolidate into a reasonable annual subscription? Do others have this problem of affordability to a dozen plus letters?
6 paying sites whould be be enough - there are many free sites passing along honest messages about almost any subject - just search to add one every few days. The more people who "like" them the easier it is for them to continue the work as worthwhile...
Could we talk more about boycotting because money is what’s driving Trump’s courtiers (trying to be kind)? I no longer deal with Amazon. Don’t do Disney either. Money is power and the people still have choices of where to spend theirs.

Let's start by pulling all of their no-bid contracts! :-) That could even be applied to the ballroom construction, now that we are paying for it! I gave away my TV 9 years ago and have never missed it. Independent media all the way.
We go complete Wifi - we have never regretted it - throw the TV away or use it as your computer monitor - watch some great Foreign films...
