Trump is bitching yet again----Today Trump placed all of this country's social unrest squarely upon the shoulders of the far left. What in the hell is the far left? Our political theater consists of 3 basic elements: The Democrats, The Independants, and of course the Republicans. Trump pointed to several incidents involving various degrees of violence all directed against members of the (Far Right) Republican party. He stated these acts of violence must stop! However, Mr. Trump neglected to mention any of the violent acts carried out against the Democrats by members of his own political gang. Why is that? Charlie Kirk would be alive today if he had chosen to follow a member of the Democratic party instead of the lunatic he befriended. Trump's entire movement is orchestrated around hatred of one thing or another, which he just isn't smart enough to understand. Instead of surrounding himself with the minds of experts who could help guide him through this country's everydays problems. Mr. Trump has selected a group of inapt morons who unscrew a light bulb by spinning the ladder while the orange guy holds onto the burned out bulb, and he has the gall to point fingers at the only party with which this country has a future. Now he wants to give Mr. Kirk a metal for his conduct, what conduct. All Kirk ever did was glorify a man who had the power to make gold lose its luster. Mr. Trump, unless you would like to join your outspoken friend I would suggest you tone things down just a bit. Your ridiculous rhetoric is tearing this country apart. Who do I blame for our current debacle? Ranking Republicans who don't have the stones necessary to control a rogue President. Trump's women are floozies, his men are marshmallows, and there isn't an honest American among them, and he wonders why he is having difficulties being the President of a country that doesn't want him.

True. Trump’s sadism is a feature of his antisocial personality disorder, although he personally would rather not dirty his tiny little hands. Of course, he has also surrounded himself this time with the most despicable toadies he could find.

C K, Trump has surrounded himself with people who are perfectly fine with either committing violence or further inciting it. Trump is a coward and always has been. I hear he is/was charming in some way so got people to do whatever he wanted. I don't get it because if people actually listened to his "charm," they would hear the lack of sincerity. I probably had to listen to it more than most because I could not see his face or his movements which were supposed at one time, to prove confidence. He always sounded to me to be an empty suit, if he had one on, I didn't know. I admit I only heard him interviewed on talk shows or when he was making his pronouncements when opening buildings or something. I heard little that was sincere. That has been his hallmark as president too, no sincerity unless he was blaming, calling for revenge, or threatening someone. He does not know how to do anything positive for anyone but himself and occasionally for his "whisperers" and then only to keep them on his leash.

Jayson - He pretty much summed it up when he answered the question of what he was going to do to bring the country back together with “I could care less”. If they would stop pulling highly skilled agents away from actual investigations to do immigration work and instead concentrating on trying to Prevent crime maybe this would not have happened. If the head of the FBI and other unqualified officials didn’t leak the names of the two held as persons of interest maybe they would not have been doxxed by others who are ruining their lives for being innocent. Maybe our tax dollars would not have been spent to fly his body on Air Force Two and instead Kirk would be going home to his family alive. This is the failure of the people who have glorified violence and hate instead of remembering why we all came together after 9/11 (and the other wars we have fought). From what I understand, and my knowledge is limited in most areas, is that regardless of when a person served as president they are limited to only two terms. I know that T is going to ignore the constitution but I think his age will prevent that. I have heard that if he does in fact try it many people have said that Obama should run again. I don’t think Michelle would allow it though. I also don’t believe that he wants to do it either. It would be interesting if the other people surrounding T would want him to run since they are priming up his heir apparent. But if he tries it, and the SC allows it, why shouldn’t we try everything possible to bring back Obama?

Fascism happens because people allow it to happen. The last go-around with them wasn't because people gave up their majority rights to them -- Hitler didn't win the 1932 election. He was just well positioned. tRump didn't have a majority - he put all of his effort into getting the electoral college votes he needed - you know, election by acerage.

No-one in America benefits more from this than Donald Trump.

a) It certainly knocks the 'Epstein Scandal' off of the airwaves. The GOP senate already took advantage of this distraction to make two controversial moves to benefit Trump.

(and BTW, Charie Kirk was one righty talker who was giving Trump, Pam Bondi, etc. some guff over the Epstein issue);

b) This will motivate Trump's MAGA base, and rally righties into a frenzy of hate toward liberals, and likely bring some who were a bit concerned about Epstein back into the fold;

c) Trump can (and will likely) use this event as a rationale to further ramp up his efforts to expand his personal 'police state' tactics; and

d) This will at least temporarily reduce public speaking events by Democrats and Trump critics, for concern over their own safety in 'revenge' attacks.

So if this was done by some politically motivated liberal, it was massively stupid in terms of the political impacts it will have.

If this was done covertly for right-wing objectives, we are in worse trouble than I thought.

Regardless of who it was, there is no question that Trump is using it for political advantage.

Donald, OMG! Well said! Trump is having more and more difficulty keeping things straight. He needs his "whisperers" to keep filling his mind with what is going on so he can almost make sense. He can then, supply the hate, blaming, and threats because that is what he has done all his life and even in his dementia, he can dredge those up for any situation. All the "whisperers" hve to say is "Democrats" or "left" or "woke" and Trump is off and running his mouth. You are also right about the disgusting assembly of pathetic entities Trump has surrounded himself with. Together they are a mass of dishonesty, ignorance, hatred, whiteness, maleness (with women who have decided they are only of value if they do whatever men tell them to do), and pseudochristians. That represents a minority of Americans, and right now, not a very popular minority, a bunch that despises America and Americans. That anyone still supports this toddler pool is unbelievable.

A suggestion--I worked very closely with several police agencies in my younger days. To a man, each member of those departments was an over all good human being. I would hate to think that anything could happen to them. By broadcasting, openly, that the DOJ or the prosecution is actively pursuing the death penality, puts uniformed officers in an elevated level of danger. Don't tell anyone the death penality is on the table. The perpetrator has already killed someone, the taking of additional lives wouldn't be hard to imagine, so why push him. A peaceful surrender is the obvious solution to a man hunt, but knowing he is facing the death penality might force an individual who houses an elevated degree of self preservation to fight to the end, putting local officers in harm's way, needlessly. Keep any thoughts of applying the death penality to an open case of murder on the "QT."

Trump as president has enhanced responsibility to tone down the violent rhetoric, because he has the most influence over the country's culture and environment. But if there's one thing consistent about Trump, it is that he will always find someone else to blame.

There is a possible motive for the individual who shot Charlie Kirk, other than opposition to his political and social views: jealousy. Charlie Kirk had become a major influencer, with access to the president and other movers and shakers. The shooter, who is thought to be a young man, obviously has far less influence. Maybe he was angry that Charlie Kirk was apparently beloved by many, while he was not. My local news is filled with reports of guns being used to resolve all sorts of disputes.

I have owned guns for decades. Not one of them has ever gotten out of the safe, gone somewhere and killed someone. If you are going to make gun ownership illegal because they can be used by people for illicit activities or to kill someone, then you have to make automobiles, knives, airplanes, tools, etc. illegal as well, because they have been misused for the same purpose.

Expand full comment
Mobiguy's avatar

Your argument is a classic straw man. Guns are tools, just like automobiles and airplanes, but we make people get training and licenses to use those tools. You need a driver's or pilots license to use them, but when someone suggests even the simplest gun safety courses we hear people scream fascism and communism - yes, both - and pressure their legislators to protect our inviolable right to blow each others' heads off using portable ordnance.

After the 9/11 attacks, there were moves to implement background checks at flight schools, a wise idea, but not a single call from the right for background checks for owning or using guns. Eddie, if you really want to draw a parallel between guns and airplanes, I expect you will support such a move.

I'm waiting.

Expand full comment
Eddie Ross's avatar

The people that flew planes into buildings, didn’t have licenses. Gangbangers in Chicago, where some of the most restrictive gun laws in America are on the books, are shooting and killing in complete disregard for said laws. People competently flew planes for decades before licensing was required by the government. Automobiles were driven competently for decades before the government required licenses. Your position is the “straw man”, advocating that government regulations can somehow solve this problem.

Expand full comment
Carol C's avatar

Eddie, my grandfather broke his arm turning the crank to start his Model T Ford in the early days of automobiles, a common accident. He tasked my father, then twelve years old, with driving him around for his job on winding mountain roads. No licensing was even imagined then. My father said he hardly ever saw another car on the road in 1920.

Regulations come after there is a great enough need for them to even be proposed. Do we not have a big enough problem with gun violence to propose regulations to make a dent in the problem?

and when the orange tyrant said (as you quoted): “My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it, as well as those who go after our judges, law-enforcement officials, and everyone else who brings order to our country.” do you think he was warning MAGA to watch their step? i certainly do not.

all that said, i absolutely agree with you that "There is no excuse for political violence in America. Nor is there any excuse for provoking even more of it by blaming it on one side or the other." the last thing we need in this broken, raging country is yet more violence. once the bullets begin to fly, the country will be irreparably damaged -- families and friends torn apart by waves of hatred and desire for vengeance. you'd think we all would have learned our lesson after the civil war, but it seems we refuse to learn from the past so we are doomed to repeat it again and again. what a horrifying thought.

We on the left know that this shooting is horrible. As are any shootings at schools, clinics, places of worship, etc. we aren’t keeping score. This isn’t a competition. Show some compassion not such callousness playing the blame game.

During the first Trump administration I came up with a hashtag to counter the red hat:

#HateMakesNothingGreat

I wanted those that wore it to understand that dynamic. Then when my own fervor wore off, I realized how easy it was to be hypocritical on the concept.

So I temper the intoxication that hate can provide, and offer my ego the option of choosing a perspective without all the absolutism.

So apart from the orange guy, the pedal is never all the way to the floor. Damn close, yes, but only Stephen Miller has the same degree of evil in his heart.

It’s so sad to me that not only does Trump never back the hate off just a tiny bit, with every #ProSTRIFE travesty he inflicts on us or tragedy that he capitalizes on, the hate quotient is always much higher.

It’s gonna be a rough week.

Trump condones and thrives on political violence. He's been spoiling for an outright confrontation ever since he rode that golden elevator down to land in the fragile lobby of political reality. He's been busting things up ever since.

Spewing all manner of hatred under the guise of free speech and manners is still hate speech and inciting of hate. I’m not burdened by the “empathy” he derided.
