In the long-standing, Republican tradition of putting people that will do the most damage in charge, we should not be surprised.

Expand full comment

Republicans who go along with these nominations are insane. They are aiding and abetting the destruction of the country. At some point, Republicans will beg Democrats to vote for Trumps next impeachment.

Trump is filling the government with loons, traitors, slackers, fools, blunderers and corrupt plutocrats.

This is his plan: make every pick crazier than the previous pick so we forget the previous crazy pick.

Next up, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. 🤦

America is screwed!

These are the perfect people, if your goal is to destroy the government. But health? He want to destroy the health of the people too? But, but, but, if we stop making medicines, there will not be any for him either. Oh, I forgot... he doesn't know how to think anything through.

DJT, and his Flock of Deranged, will always be able to get the Medicines that they will need... Remember how DJT got COVID in 2020 after declaring that it would 'Magically' go away, was AirLifted out, received very restricted Experimental Medicines, and had a Team of over 10-Doctors.... Did DJT try injecting Bleach 1st?... DJT was back within a Week.. All at Tax-Payer Expense.... How many of Us would have those Benefits?

Their platform is about getting Americans away from needing medicines to counteract all the harmful chemicals and poisons in our food supply. You should actually listen to their podcasts and research their views. Nothing radical about their agenda, other than upending the corrupt regimes of Big Food and Big Pharma.

Expand full comment

There are aspects of RFK jr views on big ag and big pharma that I agree with. The problem is that his views on various subjects are so far outside of established consensus science that it calls into question his capacity for fair and unbiased judgement of evidence. I do not want to hand over policy on health matters to his judgement. I want a person at the helm who will listen to the experts.

Expand full comment

The same "experts" that brough us Covid, the "vax" and shut down our country? The same "experts" that called Hunter Biden's laptop "Russin misinformation". despite the FBI having verified a year prior? The whole point of shaking up the system is because the system is corrupt. So many conflicts of interest, "experts" being paid off to push false narratives to enrich their donors and investors. It's time to pull the curtain back and restore transparency to the system that has destroyed American's health and trust.

You don’t think RFK Jr,’s views are dangerous? Go ask the 80+ dead, mostly under 4, in Semoia. He caused a massive, deadly measles outbreak with his lies. And guess what? He knows he’s lying. It’s all about feeding his narcissistic, oversized ego. PERIOD. He couldn’t care less about pubic health. You need only look at his real record as an environmental lawyer. He found it as a good way to enrich himself, not to help anyone but himself.

I am always so unpleasantly surprised by the republicans on how they always find ways to circumvent the rule of law and do as much damage as possible to get more control and power.... remember President Obama attempt to nominate and get appointed a Supreme Court judge and Mitch McConnell holding for almost 2 (two) months the nomination just so they would end up nominate a Supreme Court judge instead!!!

And now ... nominating appointees WITHOUT due process????

WTF ... Why didn't Democrats though of something like this??? They are always playing by the rules only to get knocked down and swept over their feet by the "unorthodox methods" that republicans use ...

I think it might be the time that Dems snap out of this " hypnosis" that republicans put us all under !!

Have you actually listened to RFK JR and Cally and Casey Means? You should listen to their podcasts and research their views and issues. This is part of a war against government, that began with that demented horse's ass Ronald Reagan. If government screws up, then any government must be bad, right? It's a pattern.

Why are Republicans so opposed to government? Simple, government collects taxes. Why did Adam Smith (in case you don't remember, he was the inventor of capitalism) so in favor of taxes? Because taxes would prevent people like Elon Musk from becoming so powerful that they would buy the government and distort the market.

Welcome to the new world of Socialism for the Rich, for what else is not paying your taxes than government welfare for the Rich?

Allow me to assist: Reagan is “the government IS the problem” guy. He’s the guy who set the wheels in motion to create the plutocracy that we live in now and laid the groundwork for Trump’s plan to destroy the administrative state. Does that help a little?

Expand full comment

I agree, Reagan also deregulated corporations which started their exodus to China and tens of thousands of our factories closed. Reagan also led to the Bush dynasty which led to Iraq.... it goes on and on and here we are.

Expand full comment

And yet people have put Reagan on a pedestal it seems. Besides the Iran-Contra affair, he was responsible for keeping the hostages imprisoned until AFTER he was elected president to ensure Carter, who actually engineered their release, would not get credit so HE could win the election. He really wasn’t that nice, was he?

Expand full comment

On that hostages' issue, a Team (kinda Seal Six) was sent to Tehran to free the hostages. A bit risky, but at the times, the place was run by the students. The helicopters they used "crashed" in the desert "due to the sand." Imagine that mission being successful. We might have no Reagan. My take is that they self-sabotaged.

Expand full comment

Reagan is what happens when 1/3 of the population shifts their vote from Blue to Red, in racist protest after Civil Rights. When the dust settles in 2028, when we reach the terminus of all that Southern rage, we may want to rethink the Constitution.

Expand full comment

Penny, the flat tax is just bullshit. People need to pay a progressive tax. The more you make, the higher the PERCENTAGE tax you pay. Otherwise, everyone would pay what the poorest pay, i.e., 5-10%, and the country would collapse. But don't take my word for it, read Adam Smith and Thomas Piketty (you can skip Karl Marx).

No, to be fair taxes should harm less those with fewer assets. If a person making $20/hour is taxed at 50%, it will harm their ability to support a family. That same 50% tax rate for a person making ten million per year looks unfair on the surface, but having $five million left over to cover family expenses is a lot better than having $20k left over.

Sorta already happened... When Trump was campaigning in 2020 he held a rally in the town where my disabled adult son lives. In an attempt to be an educated voter, my son attended the rally, having also attended a Biden rally some weeks previously. Some of Trump's staff spotted him in his wheelchair and asked him if he'd like to be on stage with Trump. He agreed so they carried him in his chair to the stage and positioned him (for the cameras no doubt) slightly to the right of the lectern Trump would be using. Eventually Trump showed up and began making his way toward the lectern, stopped, turned back behind the curtain, gesturing and speaking to aides. Next thing my son knew he was being carried off the stage and back down into the audience as he overhead other Trump staff saying Trump didn't want to be on stage with a disabled person.

Make a difference by being a good neighbor,by voting ,by speaking out and by not being complacent. What I’ve done so far has not been enough I guess. But I am doing what I can. I make efforts to stay informed so I know when I’m being hoodwinked. And you?

the same. Be informed is No 1!

Good luck! I was a little hesitant; but got both flu and Covid booster this week on Monday! Well it helped me sleep great for 2 nights; which is not always the case, haha! Some sort of feeling off and a bit weird the day after and a tiny bit of nausea and weakness yesterday; and the sore arm thing, but today I'm great !

Trump wants to destroy all depts within the government and then install his puppet authoritarian government- he will say - SEE … these depts don’t work under democracy - let’s just have everything controlled by the executive branch - like Trump knows how to run a company or a bunch of depts with 100,000 employees

And he's had 4 years to work on it.

But he's not intelligent enough to know what the job requires in any of these situations. He surrounds himself with lawyers who tell him what to do to stay out of prison; this is how he does everything.

The oligarchs are pulling the strings. The Heritage Foundation gave him names of judges to nominate. Putin, Erdogan, & Orban have showed him how to become a dictator after an election. Unqualified, loyalists fill his cabinet & important posts.

Had Biden ever run an org with 100,00 direct reports? Obama? Nope. Neither of them. Trump has over 22,000 people in his employ… and if you understand employee infrastructure for 20k, you can scale to 100k… and where do you get 100k anyway? The government employs MILLIONS.

Thanks for this. I’m really scared as someone who relies on Medicaid for major depression treatment. He has spoken against psych meds before. It’s getting harder to try to imagine Trump isn’t going to give us anything less than exactly what he promised. EEK!

Why are you surprised? It’s what he told us he would do!

Trump is and has always been anti-institution. I don’t think there’s an institution of any sort— schools, lawyers, law enforcement, military, postal service, banks, healthcare—that he supports. He thumbs his nose at every one of them. And now he has the chance to destroy or corrupt everything. Such perversity!

Expand full comment

If many of them weren't already corrupt, he'd have been barred from running for office in 2021.

Expand full comment

Wow how he'll feel if he himself needs healthcare, and it has been destroyed? On the other hand, it would probably be kept around just for ruling elites.

Expand full comment

He thinks he knows what he’s doing and that everything will somehow work out. Hey, in the past when NOTHING he’s ever done has worked out he’s had 2 plays: 1) Run to daddy for more money, or 2) file for bankruptcy. Oh wait, those won’t work here????

This is intentional, not dementia. He’ll tear down our institutions and actively hurt people if it gives him unchecked power and ability to enrich himself. That’s who he is.

As for those people who already are or are likely to experience buyers remorse after voting for him I have zero sympathy or empathy.

They knew what he was when they cast their ballots and somehow thought he was fit to lead.

They knew this:

1. Serial adjudicated rapist

2. Convicted of business fraud

3. Convicted felon on 34 counts for election interference.

4. Indicted for insurrection

5. Indicted under the espionage act

6. Indicted in Georgia on RICO charges.

He’s declared war on women, minorities and poor people but somehow people thought he’d make things better for them. He won’t!

He is a vile, evil manifestation of a human. A weak little man who will wreak havoc at every opportunity.

They knew. They know. They’ll have to learn to suck up the hellscape they’ve inflicted on all of us.

I’m done making excuses for them at this point.

718 days to the midterms if we make it that far.

The shock value of any action by Donald J Trump is long past. In fact, I’d be shocked if he appointed a knowledgeable expert to ANY position in his administration. He insults the Americans who elected him every day by nominating clowns, fools, and bootlickers to important appointments in service to the American people.

His voters trusted him with their economy, which he is preparing to implode. They trusted him to improve their lives, and he rewards them with the promise of misery, illness, and national humiliation. If you have not written your Senator, do it right now. Remind them to whom they owe their job, and ask them (nicely!) to do it. Also remind them of who enjoys presidential immunity and who does not, and that their failure to act in good faith on our behalf will have consequences. The roar of many voices can drown out the self-serving bleating of one butthurt septuagenarian.

It's not rocket science. The oligarch's agenda is very straightforward: Keep 'em poor (replace taxes on the wealthy and corporations with tariffs, paid by the consumer); keep 'em dumb (abolish DOE); keep 'em pregnant (nationwide abortion ban, abolish right to contraception); keep 'em sick (put an antivaxx lunatic in charge of HHS.) That way no one has any energy to rise up and roll out the guillotines. Works for Putin, too, you say? Well, duh. Why do you think he's always on the phone with Musk?

this is not just the middle finger. it is a deliberate strategy to destroy government institutions, thereby furthering the distrust of the public so they do not rebel when he disbands institutions and ends elections.

No, that had cool music.

Expand full comment

As Plato reminds us, governments change when the music changes, M.Z., while the zany bar scene soundtrack that accompanies Lucas's goon gallery seems the perfect score for these next four years, with several of the 'characters' shown bearing a resemblance to Jnr, Gaetz, Musk, Gabbard, 'the garden Noem', MTG, etc. That said, and on greater reflection, the soundtrack of our lives up 'til 2029 (and possibly thereafter given JAY DEE) seems set to become Chopin's 'funeral march' rather than anything which resembles "cool music"!
