I have one question. If no fatties are allowed to attend the UFC fight, will Trump have to stay out of sight?

I just learned a new term: "anosognosia." By golly, there's a word for a deranged person who has no self-insight.

Thanks for “looking at the message in the political tea leaves”, Robert, and noticing that Felon47’s power is showing signs of diminishing! I especially like your clever expression that, as a lame duck president, “his quack is no longer making anyone quake!”🤣

As President Trump continues to cement his legacy as the greatest President of our lifetime the Trump haters like Reich progressively ramp up their petulant, emotional hissy fits. It is entertaining to watch the TDS crowd getting more unhinged every day. You can’t buy this entertainment.

The democrats oppose everything Trump and everything MAGA. Meanwhile the populist conservative movement continues our takeover the republican party. Trump’s endorsement in recent primaries were more powerful than any other president in modern history and MAGA candidates swept elections. For example, Trump’s endorsement in the Texas US Senate race for Ken Paxton defeated the 23-year incumbent John Cornyn by 30 points, even though the establishment committed an unprecedented $100million to Cornyn’s campaign.

Yesterday’s congressional vote about Iran was merely political theatre. No president has considered the War Powers act constitutional and President Trump will just ignore this congressional vote.

Trump’s military action in Iran ended after only 38 days and has been won. All of the military objectives that were defined at the outset of the campaign have been achieved; Iran does not have the capability to produce nuclear weapons or the missiles to deliver them, their air force, navy and command and control have been destroyed, their support of proxy terrorist groups like Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis have been vanquished and at least the top two levels of their regime leadership have been irradicated. They are now down to Brigade command level and are afraid to use cell phones or the Internet for communication, so they message by courier.

I think that it’s unlikely that the Mullah’s will ever negotiate a deal and I’m confident that President Trump recognizes that as well. So, President Trump continues to strangle the regime with sanctions and his brilliant Straits of Hormuz blockade. The longer the Mullahs hold out, the more they will be forced to be compliant. And while it may be too much to expect, the longer the strangulation, the more likely the Persian people will rise up against their oppressors. It will take longer than it should because the incompetent Obama/Kerry/Biden made a worthless capitulating nuclear deal with the Mullahs and then flew plane loads of cash in the middle of the night which funded their nuclear arms development.

The bottom line is that I don’t want Iran to have nukes and there is no one better on the entire planet to resolve this than President Trump. I enjoy watching the master at work.

It pleases me that Trump the builder is renovating the White House and Washington DC. These changes will be magnificent. President Trump recently reported that there are 21 water fountains in DC and when he took office none of them were functional. Now all 21 work. The budget to build the magnificent ballroom was funded privately, the $1billion additional funds are what has been requested by the Pentagon for anti-drone defenses to protect DC. Don’t worry, MAGA is kicking those rogue republican senators in the butt. It pleases me that it will forever chafe all of the Trump haters that these magnificent accoutrements to our nation’s capital will forever be a standing testament to the greatest president of our lifetime, Donald J. Trump.

The deep state, their useful idiot democrats and Pravda media continue to promote their false narrative that Jan. 6 was a riot, an insurrection, when in reality it was a government false flag operation choreographed by government agent provocateurs and their Pravda media to paint their false narrative that Trump was trying to overthrow the results of the election. The evil deep state persecution of honest citizens ruined a lot of lives. I’m glad we were able to re-elect President Trump to pardon them. Now Trump is forgoing his $1.8billion settlement with Biden’s corrupt IRS for leaking his tax returns to seed the anti-weaponization fund to compensate Jan. 6 defendants who were unjustly persecuted by Biden’s corrupt DOJ. It isn’t enough. But it’s already funded Reich.

Since the MAGA takeover of the republican party has left RINO lame ducks in the Senate who may not vote to confirm President Trump’s cabinet pics, I suspect President Trump will appoint acting directors to run 120 day stints until the new MAGA senators are sworn in in 2027. We’ll see what the RINO senators do with Todd Blanche.

At the 250 year anniversary celebrations I don’t want to put up with the hissy fits of all the Trump hating entertainers like Bruce Springsteen. Fortunately, President Trump the successful businessman, unrivaled world leader, master of marketing branding is also an entertainer. I completely trust that President Trump will make the celebration of America’s 250 year anniversary spectacular!

The free bonus entertainment is watching all the hissy fits by the Trump haters as President Trump continues to make the US better than ever.

Deplorable, YOUR'RE BACK!! Even Botty knows that an endorsement from Trump that gets a person elected means nothing. Trump's cult is already set up to vote for whatever he tells them; that is what brainwashing does. If you think Trump is the "greatest president" it is because you are a computer-generated bott that will do and say whatever Trump's computer geeks tell you to say and what they give you words and phrases to make things out of. Well good for you, another ridiculous posting! That's nearly 100% for you! Kudos for being an AI bott that is as brainwashed as Trump's cult! That's pretty pathetic!

Jonathan Backman's avatar

Why give this guy the time of day? When America regains its sense, and sense of decency, MAGA will go the way of the Nazi Party. The people who call themselves MAGA now (like this man) will deny to the end of the world that they ever were, and will insist just as strongly that they ever supported this madman whom we now reluctantly call President. I just hope that day comes in my lifetime.

Deplore This's avatar

Obviously you don't understand that we are a movement, not a cult and this is not AI generated.

Elene Gusch's avatar

Wow. Virtually every time I have seen a fact-free river of propaganda like yours spewed online, it's been far less literate and far more replete with misspellings. I do have to point out that there is no such word as "irradicated." You meant "eradicated."

But your apparent level of education gives you even less excuse to believe the exact opposite of what is actually happening, including of course your fantasy concept that Trump's chosen war in Iran has ended, or has been won by the US. If only it were so, but it's just not.

I'll be more than happy to deplore such malignant twisting of the truth.

For those of you who are living on Planet Earth rather than Planet MAGA, I am pleased to report that the Trump-fluffing candidate decidedly lost the Republican gubernatorial primary here in NM on Tuesday. On the Democratic side, one of the candidates for governor had taken contributions from some MAGA-aligned groups (among other issues voters didn't like), and he received about 27% of the vote to the winner's ~73%.

Deplore This's avatar

And so you can't challenge any of the facts in my fact filled comment. Got it. For these comments I type fast and don't spend a lot of time proof reading. My breadth of my knowledge is worth more than my typo correcting.

Pay attention, the war in Iran is over. Now we can watch the deal master in chief end a 47 year world threating terrorist regime that no one has been able to do so before without putting boots on the ground. Who exactly who are you rooting for?

NM elections aren't in my world. How are the illegal alien overburdened healthcare and schools systems working out for you all?

Unfortunately I cannot use that diagnosis. It's not a stand alone diagnosis. We can attach it to his malignant narcissism, and a secondary diagnosis of dementia with anosognosia.

Bill Miller's avatar

As I recall, the original diagnosis was "malignant solipcism" -- a degree even beyond narcissism.

Dennis King's avatar

From the spelling beekeepers, it is 'solipsism' - usage - for example, in drumpster's challenged mind, only he is sure to exist.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Dennis, but the problem is that Trump doesn't fully exist in our reality. He has created an entire world for himself to dwell in. He pops out every few hours to blurt out or tweet something hateful or disgusting or irrelevant, then returns to his own reality. He has no clue he is doing it. His white toddler pool and members of Congress and the Supreme Court know it, even Republicans, but they choose to do nothing because he is for Republicans, their boy, the one they were counting on to make sure they would never be voted out of office and could do as much harm to this country as they could and for a lot of money. Oh no, what will they do now? We had all better pay attention and be ready!

Dennis King's avatar

Ruth, I would say that trump doesn't fully exist as a relatable human in most of our realities, but he does exist for most of us as an agent of complete destruction by the power of his lies, the only power that he has, really. He must be stopped!

Elene Gusch's avatar

"Spelling beekeepers"-- now THAT's a keeper! I usually think of myself as a member of the Grammar Police (To Correct and Serve).

djw's avatar

I don't know if that fits him any better than narcissism does, but to me the word "solipcism" is itself pretty funny.

Bill Miller's avatar

Yeah, the difference is subtle:

Narcissism: "It's all about me"

Solipcism: "I't ONLY me. You're all just a projection of my imagination"

Nowak,Mary L's avatar

I'm going to use that.

I've learned about two new terms through all this:

The "Overton Window" and the "Chesterton's Fence."

I'd never heard of either term in the 65-odd years of my life before all this began, nor even suspected there were unique terms for what each means. I can't say that having such knowledge has improved my life in any way. But if knowledge for its own sake is considered a good thing, Koheleth says "he who increaseth his wisdom increaseth his sorrow," or words to the effect.

I guess the good thing for me is the knowledge that I've not yet entered dotage!

Gail E's avatar

My Mom used to say, "Have you ever seen an unhappy idiot?" Other side of the same coin.

Judith Wynn's avatar

Or as Alexander Pope said:

A little learning is a dangerous thing ;

Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring :

There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,

And drinking largely sobers us again.

Fired at first sight with what the Muse imparts,

In fearless youth we tempt the heights of Arts ;

While from the bounded level of our mind

Short views we take, nor see the lengths behind,

But, more advanced, behold with strange surprise

New distant scenes of endless science rise !

So pleased at first the towering Alps we try,

Mount o’er the vales, and seem to tread the sky ;

The eternal snows appear already past,

And the first clouds and mountains seem the last ;

But those attained, we tremble to survey

The growing labours of the lengthened way ;

The increasing prospect tires our wandering eyes,

Hills peep o’er hills, and Alps on Alps arise !

A good one I just came across recently - within the last 2 weeks. It's a term that should've dated from the "Cold War." The "Cuban Missile Crisis" comes to mind. (I remember the terror well, of the time.) I really don't understand why it took this long for it to enter the public consciousness. Thanks for reminding me!

Peggy Freeman's avatar

Good word, Mmerose! It fits him nicely!

Robert's avatar

Wow! At age 88, I finally learned a new word. Could that also be spelled 'analsognosia' to describe someone who doesn't realize what an ass hole he is?

DZK's avatar
20hEdited

Anosognosia is another new word for me to remember! Methinks the whole damn MAGgot movement, the whole RepubliMAGgot party, and the official, private sector official regime media infrastructure suffers from it! I beg your pardon for not having recognized your contribution to my reckoning in my previous response.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

DZK, I have shortened all the descriptions of MAGA to Trumplandia! I mean all the crap that surrounds this ignoramus who now has anosognosia in addition to narcissism, toddlerism, and dementia! Where are our media in noticing and paying attention to this utter failure to address Trump's mental incapacities while they whined daily about Biden's age while he was in office? Hmmm! Could it be that our media are bought and paid for by the rich white boys who want to rule?

Doesnt the White House and property belong to we the people? I don’t want a fight ring on my lawn.

The world looks on in contempt. They are also laughing at us, à shithole country with a psychopath, rapist and pathological liar in the Oval Office. The psychopath happens to be baseline stupid.

And any one with eyes and ears knows he is a complete train wreck physically and mentally. ( So can the media stop with the “concerns about his health “ bullshit?)

Cyndi Magill's avatar

totally agree with you. Nothing he is destroying belongs to him. He is a GD train wreck and he is propped up by the evil pieces of feces behind the scenes...Steven Miller is an evil bastard. I personally am not concerned about his health because he has hurt so many people. The old saying what goes around...comes around applies here.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Cyndi, the sad part is that Trump will never understand what is happening to him as Karma or anything like it. He thinks it is the libs or woke or the traitors in his little world that are causing all his problems and pains. That is truly sad and means he can never change unless his brain finally deteriorates to a point where he can no longer remember anything of who and what he was. It does not say much for the purposes of those who orchestrated and ensured that Trump would be elected to an office he did not deserve. He abused the office and stole from the American people and unleashed thugs on our communities and our world, just as planned in project 2025. Our Congressional Republicans and a few Democrats wanted what Trump had and chose to steal it!

Betsy Groth's avatar

That entire klan, particularly those directly involved with business and our government have been working hard on fleecing the world for their own benefit, much of it stolen from the American people, then not even paying taxes on it or the vast wealth coming here possibly on threat for them, from other countries. The corruption is intense! Such an exemption from tax audits for people who have been cheating on taxes all their lives is just outrageous. Those who proposed it to our Baby Donnie, probably Blanche, hoping he would get an out too as well as a pardon, should be charged and indicted for tax fraud., preferably in a state where he can be charged, tried, convicted, then not able to be pardoned.

Yes, hypocrisy is strong with oligarchs! Trump will be at his whatever it is, pretending he meets all the standards he set for the military guys and it is men they want. I am hoping people will take a good note of who shows up because we should be worried about those guys. Please excuse my use of occasional ALL CAPS, as I don't mean to be yelling... (I know they cause some people, including my best friend, to suffer flashbacks to her youth, spent with a WW II vet dad who suffered from untreated PTSD)...they are just used here to aid those busy readers who like myself, want to get a glimpse of my thoughts before wading very deeply into my verbosity.

We who consider ourselves to favor: EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL, UNDER LAW (even the overweight folks) - in my humble opinion, (even though I also did have to almost chuckle at your apparent attempt to heed the adage: LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE before stifling myself) - are probably better off to remember that obesity causes a lot of unfortunate, unnecessary suffering & death.

I struggled with it, myself for years - before I read a book written by a professor of medicine at a first-rate university, George Washington: "TURN OFF THE FAT GENES" by Neal Barnard, M.D. - and have read 3 more of his, including "Dr. NEAL BARNARD'S PROGRAM FOR REVERSING DIABETES" - and have reversed my Type-2 diabetes and enjoyed the food much more than the harmful, regular-old-American high-fat diet - and went from obesity to being within the medically recommended range for my body-type.

(He also founded a great non-profit 41 years ago: PYSICIANS' COMMITTEE FOR RESPONSIBLE MEDICINE = PCRM.ORG) I have done this since March 2020. No need to go hungry on this plan - "If you truly feel hungry, then eat." Balance these 4 food groups: (1.) FRUITS (2.) VEGETABLES (3.) GRAINS, & (4.)"LEGUMES" (This last group includes: peas, beans, and lentils) - and watch the fat content, only a trace of fat is required to have proper digestive processing - and just ensure you have one particular type of B vitamin (B1, think), which is satisfied by taking a standard multivitamin tablet every 2 days.

(It's probably best to go to that website or read one of those books to make sure you understand his scientifically proven method). His BREAKTHROUGH EXPERMENT was done in 2006 - but the reason your doctor probably hasn't told you about this is: most medical schools have only one semester of a 3-hour course on nutrition. (They teach how to diagnose & treat diseases rather than the correlation of nutrition & health).

TAKE CARE, STAY SAFE, & HAVE FUN! (& "don't let the bas__rds wear u down" as my WW II daddy told me many times).

steve reed's avatar

We have a big fat problem in America that is not publicly discussed enough. The health consequences ARE AND WILL BE IMMENSE going forward.JFK jr/MAHA addresses this issue primarily in terms of diet modification, where the recommended changes are roundly criticized.

According to my AI and CDC:

Adult obesity rates have roughly tripled, and childhood obesity rates have quadrupled, over the last six decades.

Adults (Ages 20+): 40.3% are classified as obese. This represents a slight decline from the peak of 42.8% recorded in 2017–2018.Severe Obesity in Adults: 9.7% of adults

Children and Adolescents (Ages 2–19): 21.1% are classified as obese (defined as being at or above the 95th percentile of the sex-specific CDC growth charts). This is an increase from 19.3% in 2017–2018.

Frank Talk, Jr.'s avatar

thanks, steve, those stats are even more staggering & tragic than i thought... - ftj

Victor's avatar

The main culprit for the obesity epidemic is sugar. We are born with a craving for sweet and fatty food, and we find it readily in the mother's breast. The craving never goes away, which means that we are addicted to sweet and fatty food. It was never a problem in the past, because such foods were scarce in the wild; now they are everywhere. The sellers and producers of these foods are killing us in slow motion, and they constitute a powerful lobby in DC. This is why RFK jr does not dare to propose governmental action..

The tax immunity is the crux of the "deal." The crux of the re-opening of the case is that the tax immunity was not only not in what was presented to the Court as part of the "settlement", but had no relevance to any issue in the case! (fundamental question, was it a "case" at all?)

Peggy Freeman's avatar

Isn't that why the judge wants to look at it again because the DOJ or more importantly 'blanche' tried to sneak that one through?

Dorothy Knudson's avatar

Good to know. Thanks, Peggy.

Betsy Groth's avatar

Absolutely, Mmerose. I really don’t think the American realize the enormity of this current crime. The criminal regime is robbing our taxpayers blind, while we all worry about food and shelter.

Mary Ann Dimand's avatar

And it’s not a settlement: the two aligned parties folded it up to prevent the judge ruling on whether it *was* a case, due to that alignment.

Christine's avatar

Let’s face it, Blanche knew the whole thing was illegal. He knew that there was no judge who would validate the entire lawsuit, so he pulls the lawsuit and proposes a ‘settlement’ of sorts which guarantees money for Trump and no tax issues ever!

Who are these so called America loving Americans who don’t want to support the country they love so much?

Why do they think they deserve that kind of ‘freedom’ ?

I don’t have it!

Peggy Freeman's avatar

Absolutely, Mary Ann! Also, I did read yesterday that the Capitol police are suing the orange man because of that slush fund. I hope that the crime family will not get immunity. I also feel the supreme court should reverse their decision about granting that oaf immunity.

Diane Doyle's avatar

Our Supreme Court is a supremely bad, sycophantic court.

Betsy Groth's avatar

6 fascist Constitution haters, all unbelievable corrupt.

Betsy Groth's avatar

Peggy, the psychopath does not have immunity for most of the crimes he is committing, even through the lens of the Supreme Court ruling. These crimes have NOTHING to do with the presidency.

Why no one is pursuing these crimes is beyond me. He does NOT have complete immunity, and his cabinet has none. There are plenty of grounds to arrest the greasy haired liar Hegseth and Markwayne BillyBob,and criminal, an incompetent and dumb as a box of rocks.

Peggy Freeman's avatar

When his time at the White House is over, I hope they will go after him HARD!!

Gary harmon's avatar

I agree with you Betsy.

When these DT cabinet members come to Congress for a hearing the Dems should stop asking them questions that they know won't be answered. Instead they should guarantee them that they will be going to prison. Just like Nixon's aids and cabinet members. No more questions.

Vote Blue... GH

Merrill's avatar

The next step in the de-throning of HRH Donald will be watching some key aides or cabinet members resign. Miller, Hegseth, Vought, Rubio, Blanche and so forth all have a life after Trump to worry about. Do they want to go down in ingnominy with the "boss"?

Peggy Freeman's avatar

The thing is, Merrill, many of these you mentioned will be facing charges after the orange poof is gone. I believe they will hang on out of fear of having to face their own accountability!

Anon's avatar

Merrill - If they go now then they can’t count on a pardon from T or whoever if he goes before his four year are up.

Mary Ann Dimand's avatar

A number of them are, at least, and some other folks on various grounds.

Anon's avatar

Peggy - Although he did this while in the Oval Office he did it in his personal capacity as far as I can tell. Numerous people had their information leaked by the contractor but he only named himself in the suit. Then they tacked on the audit thing (again in his own personal capacity) and used the DOJ as his lawyers. Other than occupying a chair while in the people’s house I don’t see how he can claim immunity when he is hopefully facing charges. Maybe I am seeing it wrong and someone with a background in law can explain it better. Or alternatively my perception.

Peggy Freeman's avatar

Anon, I agree with you; however, I don't have a law degree either so I am not sure how that will play out.

Jim (Bombguy24)'s avatar

Totally agree! I've been cautioning that the real goal of Trump's "slush fund" is not to reward sycophants, but to get the tax immunity for him and his family (perhaps permanently). That is what everyone should be focusing on. We already know he could care less about the fund and "taking care of others." If it doesn't benefit him why bother? It's been part of his character from the beginning.

Mary Ann Dimand's avatar

And yet he‘d be happy to do that as well, and it’s bad policy to do it.

When Ossa is piled on Pelion we mustn’t lose sight of either mountain.

Jan's avatar

I hope that their immunity will be ended. Why should trump and his family be exempt from the laws? How nice to be able to take power and then make decisions that only benefit himself and his family! Talk about giving them free reign! We need trump out of office! He is not leading the country; he is sleeping through the rest of his "term"! He does so regularly. I hope our reps will put age restrictions on who runs for president, or any office really! People are living much longer than they did when our government was created. We are witnessing the best argument for age restrictions!

Dorothy Knudson's avatar

And we need some standards for odd ice holders…think of Santos.

steve reed's avatar

And another argument: Not only are people living longer but our society continues to change more rapidly which is challenging for many older people.

Whereabouts Unknown's avatar

I think "lame duck" is the thing and certainly not courage. The rats see the water rising in the ship's hold.

Peggy Freeman's avatar

I believe the republicans could see the writing on the wall come the midterm elections, Gloria. Many just left or decided not to run again. I am sure they are being inundated with letters, emails, phone calls from their constituents who are very angry. I think they grew tired of trying to appease this tyrant who would never be pleased about anything!! Now they know his time is almost over and maybe they are trying to do what they can to "polish" their legacies. I'm afraid it is too late for that, and they will not be remembered well.

Laurie Blair's avatar

Aside from, they are just bad people, I think the old principle that the squeaky wheel gets the grease is in the picture. There are just enough of our fellow citizens, specifically here and specifically there, even barring artistic gerrymander, who cannot rise above age-old paranoia and prejudice, and zombie-vote for any candidate who caters to their fear and loathing. Who kept voting for MTG?

Betsy Groth's avatar

Trump’s dropping poll numbers, Gloria. And they aren’t courageous at all, just detected a shift in the wind and are desperately trying to save their do nothing jobs.

steve reed's avatar

Not that much courage. Only 4 GOP members supported the war resolution. Massie leaving office. Another past the primary and running in a district where he is heavily favored to win (Davidson OHIO). The other two running in very competitive districts and they figured their vote would not hurt them , maybe help them win in 2026.

4 GOP siding with Dems on this is not nothing but hardly counts as "trump losing his grip on the House GOP members". The slush fund pushback is a little crack.

Dystopian societies are often maintained through one of five major systems of oppression:

Totalitarian: Society is ruled by a strict dictatorship or oppressive government, utilizing fear and constant surveillance.

Technological: Citizens are controlled by advanced technology, such as computers, cyborgs, or scientific conditioning.

Corporate: Large, monopolistic conglomerates dictate lives, media, and consumer habits.

Bureaucratic: Society is stifled by endless red tape, mindless regulations, and incompetent or unfeeling officials.

Philosophical/Religious: The population is ruled by a strict ideological or religious ideology that forces conformity.

Trump is NOT over. And you have fallen for exactly what he wants. The only thing that will ever take Trump down, convict him and put him in prison for the rest of his life is in the Epstein files which you have not mentioned in a while. So Trump‘s plan to distract by any means necessary has worked. Trump play games. He takes risks. It’s worked out for him. We’ve been distracted that nobody even talks about the files anymore. Nobody’s out there advocating for the victims. They’ve been abandoned. Trump doesn’t give a shit about the guiled ballroom. The wrestling. The fund for the January 6 attackers. But it’s everything that’s kept held up in court so long that Epstein, who? Victims, who? The Republicans are playing this game with him. We’re patting ourselves on the back for something that’s been strategically planned.

This article inspires much hope! Yet, I am very cautious due to a lack of Democratic resolve to overhaul our system of Government in order to avoid another “Trump” in future and to dispense justice on all the individuals that have profited from this nightmare.

Mary Baine Campbell's avatar

The main problem for decades will be undoing the destruction already wreaked. Can you imagine the political survival of a Congress budgeting only for the hugely expensive and long-range repairs? And in the wreckage of the economy and of the IRS, with what funds?

Evaristo Jose Valle's avatar

I am in total agreement that the damage is immense, but I don’t believe it will require decades if, and only if there is the political will. As for the funds, since the USA dollar is a sovereign currency, if need be the Treasury can print as much as is needed. The only stopper would be inflation much greater than what is currently being seen.

Mary Baine Campbell's avatar

You may be too young to remember the political fallout (and human immiseration) of high inflation. In any case the Fed would never permit it, as it would impoverish the state as well as the people.

Dorothy King's avatar

Evaristo, the Democrats, as with the Republicans, will do as the people who support them demand. All I can say is take out a membership and get involved.

Mary Baine Campbell's avatar

What makes you think he’s not a Democrat, or not involved?

Dorothy King's avatar

I have no idea. My last sentence was meant to be taken broadly for people reading. I know myself that many of us aren't involved in a party or action group, but complain mightily about political decisions. It is my opinion that holding a democracy together requires that everyone make their voices heard. My father had a Grade 3 education and modest employment, but he read the paper front to back every day, and wrote to his political representatives on a variety of topics. I still remember my Grade 8 study of the US government and Constitution... I don't know if that's even a requirement;uirement any more. Cheers!

Mary Baine Campbell's avatar

That sounds like a challenge but wasn’t meant to! I’m just curious. I’m a Democrat and an active one but I too talk as if the Party were external to me, because it’s *run* by people I consider enemies of the people.

Dorothy King's avatar

Yeah, it's tough. I'd like to think "the party" has learned some serious lessons from this experience that will renew the party with lots of input from people like yourself. Having grown up in a "responsible" Republican household, I thought political participation was something everyone did!

Mary Baine Campbell's avatar

I think more people did participate when we were growing up. Though many more were prevented from participating than have been in recent decades. And sigh, they may be prevented again very soon.

Helena P. Schrader's avatar

Trump is an infantile madman so sick he deserves more pity than hate, but he's NOT running the country. He can't. He doesn't have the capacity to -- and the only things he talks about are his toys -- entertainment, the reflecting pond, the ballroom, his "arch," his speeches.

But while Trump plays with AI like a toddler with rubber ducks, the faceless monsters deconstructing our democracy get on with the real work of gutting the nation's institutions, firing competent bureaucrats, unleashing illegal terror upon immigrants, undermining the upcoming elections and more.

Trump IS the distraction. Trump is the show. The real damage is being done by the faceless, unelected men running the country in his name.

Cindy Wiggins's avatar

Helena, I have a different view. Trump most certainly is running the country. That's why America is in such an economic mess and is now disrespected around the world. He makes the decisions. He owns every cowardly Republican politician. He demands revenge and the cruelty because he takes pleasure from it. As for deserving pity, he deserves as much pity as Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Marcos, Castro, Pinochet or Putin which is exactly none. They are all built from the same hate infused, self serving cloth. What he deserves is to be recognized as evil and to never, ever rest in peace.

Helena P. Schrader's avatar

Have you watched Trump speak recently? Have you listened to him? He can't concentrate, and he can't talk about policy at all. He's fixated on his AI images, his ballroom, his arch, his party on the Mall. You may have been right that 18 months ago, or even 12 he was still in control, but he has now completely lost his mind.

The point is: it doesn't matter because the faceless, unelected people that prop him up -- Musk, Miller, Hegseth et al -- know they can keep him happy with his toys and his hateful attacks on others. They feed him what he wants to hear -- how much he's loved, how great he is, that he's the best ever etc. And they continue to secure control behind the scenes. They are the ones who know own the Senate and the Supreme Court -- and they can't be distracted by ballrooms and parties and AI images of themselves in costumes. They are far more dangerous.
