This is awesome! It's the first true connect the dots to come out of our politico-legal system. It was an insurrection, there are consequences, and the consequences will be applied, not swept aside. Excellent!

The "insurrection" happened in the early morning hours of November 4, 2020.

The "clown show" conceived and planned by Pelosi and Milley wasn't an "insurrection".

You people are the most gullible people on the planet.

If Trump supporters really wanted to "insurrect" (and they didn't.) the capitol would have been burned to the ground and there wouldn't have been any survivors.

WE AREN'T THE VIOLENT ONES.

If we were, you'd know it.

You're celebrating a guy being jailed for PRAYING on the capitol grounds. You must be so very proud of yourselves.

The "Dark Brandon" crap is backfiring. November is going to be GLORIOUS when we vote the true fascists out of office.

You are too ignorant of politics to ever make any comment. Quiet is your best bet.

Talk about gullibility! You exemplify it!

Expand full comment

Actually, there's no such word as 'gullibility.' It's not in Wikipedia or Merriam-Webster. It's a common error. Don't use the word.

Expand full comment

Of course, it's a very real word, & I have used & will continue to use this very legitimate word. And just to confirm it, I checked my Random House Dictionary of the English Language, Unabridged Edition, dated 1967, & it's in there.

Keep telling yourself that, buttercup.

The entire world will know what happened soon enough and I promise not to return here and tell you "I TOLD YOU SO".

Wise up.

Got to thank you for introducing me to the substack site you read. I won't name it here, the AI lizard people watch everywhere. But it's table-smacking FUNNY parody, makes the Onion like reading the legal classifieds in the South Provincetown Inderpendent. Imagine if people believed it was real?!

The world already knows that Trump is a US traitor, who defied the democratic process to try to stay in power, going so far as to incite an insurrection & assassination of his own VP, has confiscated top secret documents to sell to international adversaries, use as blackmail against anyone who might cross him (especially members of the Republican Party) & to keep from being incarcerated (by threatening to release even more classified information), & has caused more damage to the US than any individual in history; & that the Republican Party is a subversive terrorist organization that is working to eliminate democracy in the US & take permanent totalitarian rule. Wise up!

This was the best news I've heard thus far about holding political figures who participated in the insurrection, accountable. Let this be just the beginning, there are several others who should be removed and even more who should be prosecuted as well.

Yes, Susan! There are a significant number of folks, even in Congress who need to hear the words "you can never hold public office again since you were an insurgent against the United States of America" (or something like that). I suspect you could name 10. How do we get them before the judges who will not be afraid of Donnie and who will live their oath to this country and our Constitution?

If Bill Barr can turn around (most likely to save his own 'reputation'/law license), maybe others will see that as the right way to go too.

Expand full comment

Bill Barr should lose his license. What a statement to future law students. Shame on him... dis Barr him.

I have thought that many times. This is not his first rodeo. Look up Iran / contra scandal. Drugs for weapons. Ollie North. Illegal and immoral doings in South America. Bill Barr had a hand in it, as a crooked lawyer. He should not have the right to practice law.

While we Yanks fret about HRH, the Guardian showcases Berman’s book on the SDNY and what a grotesque, serpentine thug and all-around chumbucket Bill Barr has been through the decades. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/sep/07/donald-trump-william-barr-geoffrey-berman-southern-district-new-york-book Barr makes Bolton look admirable by comparison.

Ruth Sheets ; I have been wanting to see/hear those words in a legal ruling by Justice since the Insurrection ; "you can never hold public office again since you were an insurgent against the United States of America"! to every perpe-Traitor. Yes! get them Out of office in our government!

Expand full comment

First off, Ruth they'd have to be in a State like New Mexico that CARES about democracy and our Constitution, that lets out Florida, Texas, Alabama, etc. If we could ever bring Kevin McCarthy on charges I'm quite sure any sitting Judge in California would be delighted to read the 14th Amendment to him. The only two elected positions not depending on the State are the President and vice-President. Merrick Garland is working on the ex-President.

McCarthy was trumps prime enabler and accomplice. If he is not a target of DOJ, someone is not doing their job !

Expand full comment

I'm sure he is among the crowd of secondary enablers. there are so many I lose count, but they certainly include Rudy Guilliani, the Powell woman, Ted Cruz and the rest of the list. I think the DOJ's prime focus is the trumpster, but the secondary enablers are in their sight as well

Thank you Ken, for your observations. As to McCarthy, he represents a mostly rural, partially mountainous, district, I'm not even sure he lives there. When I was working with the State on a program implementation project, I got to know some of these residents. The folks there are not so much republican as fiercely independent (the register Republican but what they think is, 'Leave me alone, I can take care of myself'. Therefore they don't spend a lot of time thinking about politics. When it comes time to vote they just mark their ballots Republican, just like they, and their parents, grandparents, and everyone in their community has always done. I'm not sure they even know what a rat McCarthy is, he's just the guy in Washington who doesn't say or do much to harm them.

What do we have to do to get Francis Mathew on the U.S. Supreme Court?

Expand full comment

Impeach the members who lack the ability to to the same.

Expand full comment

You have this correct. If some legislator in Washington had the courage to stand up and say, "dismissing the Constitution is an impeachable offense", then and only then would we have the ability to impeach those "in"justices, who ignore the written word of the Constitution and instead put their personal prejudices into the minds of men who being two hundred years dead, can't defend themselves

Hooray for New Mexico, The First State to declare the Constitution the seat of all Law. Also kudos to the Judge Francis Mathew for putting REAL meaning into the oath to the Constitution. I have long held that all Oaths to the Constitution should be sworn on the Constitution. I also think we should pledge allegiance to the Constitution. New Mexico can stand proud.

Expand full comment

I agree that an elected official should put their hand on the Constitution when being sworn into office, and NOT the bible. (The bible and religion have no standing in our government and our laws...and the afterthought "under god" should be removed from our pledge of allegiance as well as our currency) New Mexico is just the first, Fay. The rest will follow. People will vote to elect rational, law abiding representatives. Justice takes time, but it's coming.

That is a great idea. Getting the Bible out of our government would solve a lot of problems.

Craig, I am with you and Dr. Reich. I so hope this is the first of MANY rulings against the insurgents running for and in office. They need to get started, though because so many of those insurgents are running for office in this midterm and have already stated publicly that they are going after voting rights (which should be sacred in our country), and plan overturning elections no matter what they people want. They are not even hiding what they want to do when they get into office. Voter suppression since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act back in 2013, claiming racism was over (even a Black justice went along with that BS), it has been harder for certain groups of people to vote. All kinds of ridiculous rules about signatures and license numbers the voter had when they first registered, no food or water given out when lines in Black communities are hours long, etc. etc. are already in place. Some of the white men who pushed for those voter suppression laws were also involved in the Jan. 6th insurrection too. We need prosecutions and rulings like that in NM.

Hi Ruth, Clarence Thomas may have dark brown skin but the man is a white supremacist at heart. That's why Reagan appointed him, to give the appearance of "anti-racist by appointing a wolf in sheep's clothing, or in this case a white supremacist disguised as an AfroAmerican

Thank you, Ken, you are correct of course. The problem with

these hearings on Supreme Court justices is we (the Democrats) are more likely to attack on "sexual" grounds instead of explaining why we disagree with their interpretation of the Constitution. Also we have the problem (associated with both Kavanaugh and Coney-Barrett) of outright lying to Congress, In their case stating they 'honor' precedence when they do not.

Ruth, this IS the beginning of lawfully removing the traitors who are infiltrating our government. The other method of overcoming them is to VOTE THEM OUT! It takes courage to do the right thing, and Judge Matthews is to be commended for standing up for the Constitution. The folks whose vote is being suppressed need our assistance in any way we can help. If enough republican politicians can be voted out this November, laws can be enacted to restore voting rights, so it takes all of us to participate. If you know anyone who is not registered, or who does not vote, explain to them what is at stake. Every vote counts!
