When the courts fall (and they already have), the people must march. Get your walking shoes ready. This ain’t over until SCOTUS is fixed.

1) Biden uses his newly minted immunity for official acts to sequester Alito, Thomas, and Robert’s (corruption occurred on his watch and he let it happen). They are clearly national security risks. Kavanaugh, too, probably- who paid off his mortgage and debts?

2) Biden uses the same powers to sequester the Moscow 8 and a few more senators who are part of the sedition of January 6th.

3) The Senate kills the filibuster

4) The House replaces Johnson with Jeffries

5) The Senate confirms sensible Supreme Court Justices, expands the court, and starts impeachment proceedings for Alito, Thomas, and Robert’s, and any federal judges that have an “Unqualified” rating from the bar

6) Congress passes and Biden signs into law a) the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and b) the No Kings Act.

7) Harris is inaugurated.

That’s the kind of political courage that will be required. The GOP will not hesitate to use the fullest expression of power to achieve their agenda. We MUST be prepared to do the same.

Biden can use this power as his last great act of patriotism. And then, make it illegal.

Maybe that is were we began with SCOTUS, the bar association that grants them a license to practice when they are stepping outside of the rule of law. Our forefather never thought honorable men and now women would be so crooked. Take it to the people.

I believe they may have relied too much on the "honorable" men and women principle. I say, which law? And even if there were some law that could be applied the issue is that, while "No one is above the law" barring the two exception, SCOTUS and Donald Trump.

Sad that trump seems to be above the law! He gets away with almost everything! The worst is him delaying everything! The SC seems to be in lock step with trump. 6 republicans and 3 democrats is not favorable to the American people that believe in the rule of law! The trump appointees were "bought" and they will always be loyal to trump over our Country! The SC is severely broken and must be fixed. If trump wins, there is not much hope for our country, and I hope the people that vote for him realize the error they made!

- the blue wave will be meaningless because those counting will not be honest. The oligarchs are seeing to this. The Billions being spent to steal this election is breathtaking, and being done in the open. The rule of law has been subverted, and the 4 year coup d'etat effort will shortly culminate in drumpf's coronation. I wish it weren't so. There is one option, but the dems are too "honorable" to take it. That is, Biden has a constitutional, ethical, and moral obligation to defend the constitution and our democracy from all enemies, foreign and domestic. He has been given explicit permission by a corrupt supreme court to do anything within his defined duties to accomplish this. Accordingly, all the coup d'etat plotters should be immediately rounded up and held without habeas corpus. They should be housed at leavenworth for the forseeable future. This would include the corrupt 6 justices and their wives, members of congress who participated/are participating, several oligarchs such as musk, thiel, adelson, and a host of others. The republican party is a terrorist organization that advocates, from the top down, violence to resolve political differences. The republican party is a terrorist organization that promotes violence against women and children, that espouses misogyny, patriarchy, fascist white supremacist theocracy, The republican party is a terrorist organization actively and openly flouting and subverting the rule of law. Voting will not work if the votes are not honestly counted. The oligarchs are spending billions (courtesy of a corrupt Citizens United ruling) to steal this election. That is why extreme extralegal measures are warranted. Once the traitors are jailed, the hard work of repairing our democracy can start. The first order of business would be constitutional amendments eliminating the electoral college, term limits for all federal judges, an amendment specifically undoing the coronation of the president, the equal rights amendment, and an amendment revoking personhood status for corporations, which must be heavily regulated for the common good. All is lost otherwise, and even these actions may be only a temporary reprieve from the rapaciousness of the oligarchs, who are transnational and apolitical. They only worship power, money, and themselves.

I agree with the depth of unconstitutional shenanigans/corruption being perpetrated by Trump's Republican party (just the fact that he's running on his Big Lie that he won in 2020) but let's wait and see what happens on Nov.5, and the fallout after that. If it's necessary, Biden's got the power between then and Jan.21 to do some drastic action if necessary, but of course that will unleash Trump's trigger-happy gun-totin' mob.

The far left is just as bad as the far right…. I’m not on board with a lot of those far left “progressive” ideas

Expand full comment

Erik, this particular thread is talking about the latest Supreme Court decision. It’s not about progressive or conservative ideas. The state of Virginia is well aware of the 90 day quiet period but chose to break that provision and the Supreme Court just backed them up. It appears that SCOTUS is not unbiased.

Expand full comment

Erik, do you care to elaborate? because on the other side are far right *fascist* ideas. If you have looked at European history, and I'll assume you have at least studied it a bit, You should come to the conclusion of most reasonable people that baking jews alive in ovens is not nice.

A country can recover from being "too progressive", [i.e DEI] but not from being too dictatorial. At least not without a great deal of blood being shed. And with Progressives, you will have another chance in 2028, and 2026 will give you a crack at changing legislatures. With the guy who wants to be a dictator on day one, trust me, you will not have that chance.

To the very far left is Communism. Technically at least, it *started* with kind ideas, like equality, justice etc. The People were rebelling against a czar who was pretty dictatorial himself.

Yet, they were not ready for the likes of Stalin, who governed with an iron fist. In that, he was quite similar to the worst fascists that ever lived. [The very far left and the very far right are similar in that, I think you'll agree, that violence is what they will resort to to get their way].

I guess my point is: Don't be afraid of Progressive ideas, but do watch out for how they would be implemented.

On the MAGA side, Trump is already talking about deporting 10 Million people. Do you understand or have a feel for the kind of violence it will take to rip people from their communities and push them in camps? The jobs they will leave behind? Think about the amount of food, water toilet facilities to try and do that "humanely", and you will realize: They can't.

Let me remind you of the words of Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemöller, who was luckily liberated from the concentration camp in Dachau:

"First, they came for the Socialists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Socialist.

then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I didn't speak out, because I wasn't a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out, because I wasn't a Jew.

Then, they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me."

Like many Germans, he was at first seduced by the ideas of Nazism, and he was on board in the 20s & 30s but such extremist movements always go pear shaped in the end, and those who thought they were part of the "in-crowd" eventually find themselves ostracized like they ostracized others. It is just the nature of extremism. Could you please tell us which Progressive ideas make you uneasy: I suspect there may be a lot of misunderstanding.

If Thomas retires Harland Crowe has no motivation to shower him with money and gifts.

Thomas is typical, in the mold of Trump and the cult, totally transactional.

Thomas has a disincentive to retire, unless Crowe showers him with a healthy retirement fund.

Expand full comment

a clean retirement gives him his pension and all the Republican speaking engagements he wants.

An impeachment will cost him a bundle.

Expand full comment

And that's why HE MUST BE IMPEACHED. Punishing such flagrant corruption is the greatest disincentive. It must just happen, or we will keep on having the likes of these crooks on SCOTUS.

Expand full comment

this only happens if Dems win WH and Senate - and it doesn't look promising to hold the Senate - we'll need a huge Blue Wave to win there because we're losing 2 seats (Manchin & Tester) and only had a majority of 1. But if we win big we might beat Ted Cruz in Texas and hold the Senate. Then we can impeach Thomas.

Sean, Sean, Sean, you do so good, until you start testifying for your religion., and launch into impossible long screed as though you were preaching a sermon

It is a shame that you waste all of that time and energy, I seriously doubt that any reads the whole sermon.

There is so much you say that I agree with

Call it the Roberts court. As far as I’m concerned the Roberts court is corrupt.

Expand full comment

Roberts has been one of the biggest political disapoointnents of my life. Despite his political affiliation I thought he was a good choice originally. But now I see him in the bucket of Trump lackeys. Sad.

Expand full comment

To me, he lost it when he allowed Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham to vote on the impeachment after they said they would NOT be impartial.

He should immediately have said: "Since you stated you would NOT be impartial, you are dismissed with the thanks of the Court".

That is what happens in any other Jury: If someone says they have already made up their minds, they are dismissed.

Expand full comment

Roberts has no guts. He's very weak ad pliable. The other right-leaning justices are probably laughing at him behind his back. Two of them are super corrupt and sould no longer even be justices - Alito & Thomas - yet they make these super serious decisions that could destroy our country. Don't they realize they'll have no power if Trump is elected and the Project 2025 people take over? Be careful what you wish for!

Expand full comment

Roberts is an ideological Catholic, like the other five Mary Ann. And also there is the Bezo effect, fear of the man and what he will do if he steals the election and exacts vengeance.

Expand full comment

Perhaps, but I suspect that Trump will keep them, just as a veneer of legality. As long as they are loyal to him, he will not touch them, and he has more to gain keeping them than throwing them out. As a Liberal Justice, I'd be really scared though...

Expand full comment

Oh, he won't throw them out. He'll keep them so he can say there is a SC. But the real decision makers will be those Proj. 2025 appointed to implement the process of taking away our freedoms, eliminating environmental rules meant to make our planet safer and anything else benefiting the middle.

If I remember correctly, Roberts first job was in the Reagan justice department trying his best to destroy all of the equal rights and voting rights laws passed in the 1960s. Most people don't want to hear about it but Reagan was every bit as racist as T but just not quit as in your face about it. Vote Blue... Cheers... GH

Important history, thank you for reminding us. This has been in the works for many years.

Reagan was never more than a B actor to me. He created an enormous and very damaging mess.

I'm not so sure it should be called the Robert's court. It should be called the Harland Crow, Peter Thiel, Leonard Leo Court, or the Heritage Foundation court.

The only thing these corrupt members have is their robes, and they should be stripped of them.

Agreed.

This is another example of how partisan the supreme court has become. My hope is for a Democratic win for President and Senate so supreme court reform can happen. I can wish can I?

Expand full comment

We all wish the same if you are a true bipartisan. I believe there is a world or at least a US where we can.

Expand full comment

As Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has been instructing us for some time now with his lessons about “The Scheme” from the Senate floor, the SCOTUS has been captured. They are doing the MAGA work they were indoctrinated to do. By any means necessary.

Expand full comment

These obviously partisan decisions are like they're stealing packages from porcches and it's caught on camera, but they deny it. We can all see how partisan they are. And when it's a decision that will benefit Trump, they right on it. If it's to benefit the Dems, it takes them months to get around to looking at the case. Do they think we're stupid? With so many decisions lately that benefit Trump and the GOP, it's just disgustingly obvious they are partisan!

Expand full comment

We're stupid because we're to disorganized, too afraid, too lazy, whatever, to get off our asses and protest in Washington DC like people did in the 60s. This is worse than the Vietnam War. This is about destroying America as we know it.

Why oh why hasn’t the Biden Administration taken charge of things and used the new power the SCOTUS gave to Trump, supposedly to walk back the terrible things the Supreme Court has done? Why has Trump not been put behind bars already? Why has the Attorney General not been replaced by a more aggressive person who would have done more quicker with all of the Trump crimes? Why has Elon been allowed to buy votes? Why has Trump been allowed to interfere with international conflicts? These are all questions that really bother me even as I vote Blue. I do think Biden is well beyond his cognitive capabilities and Harris has not performed in his brain’s absence. I hope she wins but then she has to squelch all these bjillionaires from taking over our country!

Wish I were in better health. I'd be the first in line to protest. But, at 81 and not very mobile, it's out of the question. Women will be protesting in D.C. and across the country on Nov. 2 tho.

At this pivotal moment in our country, Women’s March is leading the charge to build a feminist, multi-racial democracy that serves us ALL.

What happens in 2024 and the four years to follow will set the foundation for the next four to five decades.

WE ARE MARCHING.

November 2, 2024.

LET'S MARCH!

He has started and as long as he is started let us all finish it. A good protest and scare the hell out of them one way or another to remove them. 1) They need elections and time limits in their seat. We the people must use our voice and power.

I think it’s time to look at a SCOTUS overhaul.

Don't worry fool, if and when the Democrats hold on to power...there'll be no need for a SCOTUS..~

Expand full comment

The Roberts Court is corrupt. Just when we think it can't go lower, it does. The majority may complain about the court's loss of credibility (and respect), but they really are only concerned with aiding the GOP to regain/retain power. If the majority continues on this path, then at some point dissidents will have to ignore any decision the Court hands down.

Sometimes I would like him to but know he would not have Seal Team 6 kill them all while he is in office. SCOTUS gave him permission to do so. If he did I would be horrified, out of TRUMP it would be expected.

Dian, is English your second language. I don't mean to insult, but I can't understand your comment.

Dian is talking about Biden, who, thanks to the supreme court now has full immunity for Presidential Acts.

Dian know that Biden will not use this immunity: He is too decent for that. On the other hand, Trump has no such qualms.

Thanks Cécile

Hablo español, pero tengo problemas para entender cuando un hablante de español traduce literalmente al inglés.

por ejemplo. dame un cigarrillo por favor

In English give me one cigarette please.

in English we use "a" as an indefinite article, other languages have nothing similar, Deutsch uses "one", "Française" uses ""une" I assume other languages have the same.

To a native English language speaker, this is strange, when I first heard it, I thought "does he usually ask for two or three cigarettes why just one?

Gary, you lost that argument as soon as you indulged in name calling: that's a sure proof that you know you are wrong, but if you need an explanation, suffice to say that according to our laws "no man is above the Law", and that includes the President. By giving him total immunity for Presidential Acts, they broke our Laws.

You can't be serious Gary? The only loyalty they have demonstrated is to the constitution? Really?

That's preposterous. The Trump justices have made a mockery of the Constitution, and they are in the process of dismantling the U.S. Republic and replacing it with a Christian Nationalist oligarchy.
