Yes, I was aware of this and I think there is another state that has this or is close to voting this in as well. I think it's a great idea. Get corporations out of our government and leave it to the grassroots people donating.
Kathy - I was crushed when Sherrod Brown lost to Moreno but I am glad that he is running again. Brown is the only senator who I knew that actually cared about the people. He is for the workers and his constituents and travels around Ohio to meet with them to find out what they actually need. I’m slightly worried about Acton (because some people have a hard time voting for a female) but thrilled about who she picked as her running mate. If we get Ramaswamy as governor I fear for how farther divided our state will become. The only republican who ever replied back to any of my emails was Max Miller and it wasn’t one of those generic auto replies. I was kinda surprised.
Make sure you tell everyone you know about how the GOP is trying to change the rules on mail in ballots in 2027. More i.d. requirements and hoops to jump through. There will also be an Issue added to vote on. Last time they used deceptive language to make people vote against their best interests and I’m sure they will do it again. But I’m pretty sure that you know all of this based on past posts…it’s just the rest of the state we need to be aware.
I know they are. Ohio is requiring additional IDs for absentee voting. We don’t have a problem with voter fraud, we have a problem with voter suppression. I am voting for Brown. Husted is a DeWine crony and not too bright. I was furious with Frank LaRose’s deceptive summary of the anti-gerrymandering initiative. His summary deceived many voters.
The NYTimes had a piece about how Orban was defeated in Hungary Two reasons were the candidate traveling around the country talking to people in person and thousands of volunteers.
I’m not from Ohio but I always admired and appreciated Sherrod Brown for his integrity and fighting for working people. I’m glad to see that he’s still traveling and meeting Ohioans. Now he just needs an army of volunteers. You and Anon are articulate and knowledgeable, think about volunteering for Brown. And take some friends with you.
Jonni - I signed up the first chance I could for Brown. I’m limited physically and verbally but I sure try to help in other ways with getting the word out.
I explained my situation to them and instead of ignoring me, or pitying me, they told me that they would find ways for me to help out - and they have. It gives me a purpose and a goal oriented mission and I appreciate them for that.
It's absolutely terrible what the republicans are doing - changing the maps to make states republican. But it won't matter because I think a lot of republicans are stick of what is going on and may (and I pray) will vote democratic. Fingers crossed.
Knowing the numbers is all well and good. But the biggest problem I see for the Dems is that with all we've been through including the GOP distractions of the Epstein files, we lack a simple core message, agenda, or platform--whatever you choose to call it. It shocks me that in all the crap we are going through, the Dems are on the sidelines clutching their pearls. It pisses me off! Why hasn't the leadership gotten together and create a cohesive strategy/message that everyone is on board with. Woe is me, please donate more money, and waiting for the midterms to see what happens is not a strategy.
I live in Texas, and in my neighborhood neighbors have already started to create their own Dem platform signs and plant them in their front yards along with the traditional candidate campaign signs. So while I hear your lament that we aren't hearing an official platform out of Dem leaders, some of us are forging on and doing our own messaging that reflects the Democratic values we'd like to see in an official platform. We have neighbors who live in the first house as you enter our neighborhood, they regularly create clever messaging on full sheets of plywood that they lean up against their front fence; they change up the message depending on what's in the news; not only do they provide the messaging the party should be providing, but they do it in ways that give everyone something to think about as well as a bit of a chuckle. I personally consider these particular neighbors our very own national treasures. In our yard, our focus is Talarico; we've taken Talarico aphorisms (from his interviews, campaign speeches) that we think, reflect what would be part of a Dem platform, and paint them onto regular size yard signs; we rotate them each week to bracket each side of our official Talarico campaign signs. Donate yes! Acknowledge Dem leadership is still out-to-lunch - I get it. But somewhere along the line we all have to start taking the bull by the horns and create our own Dem platform messaging. Who knows, maybe leadership will take note.
Totally agree, the DNC is perennially wet. And the endless beseeching for money turns my stomach.
There is NO substitute for a popular populist at the top of the ticket, someone who will not take corporate donations, someone who does not need to beg Americans for donations because they will happily give them anyway. Please no more corporate schills in 2026 and 2028.
My son thinks what the Dems need to do is mutual aid for communities. Set up food distribution and free healthcare clinics. Then explain how much more they could do if they were voted into a majority and had access to the treasury and taxed the Epstein class.
Delivered mutual aid is so much better than promises.
We have a great candidate, Dr Annie Andrews running against scumbag Lindsey Graham here in SC. She came out way ahead in the primary race. He only got 50% of the Republican Party vote. Praying and working towards a blue wave in November!!!
Yes! I think she would be great! It would be great to get Lindsay out and Dr. Andrews seems like a very good candidate. She’s a pediatrician and more in tune with what people in the real world’s lives are like.
So sorry. Although I did throw some $ to her, I remain dissatisfied that she's not gone full bore for single payer. I hate Graham, I could like Andrew more if she committed to cosponsor Sanders Bill ....
If she’s elected you can push her towards single payer. For now encourage her to deliver free health clinic/ voter registration events. If Dems deliver mutual aid now it will demonstrate their intentions to deliver for people when they are voted into the majority. A little mutual aid now and much more when they have access to the Treasury and can tax the Epstein class.
You should write to her and ask why she doesn’t support it. I live in California so I’m sure you know more about her than I do. And yes Lindsey needs to go.
For these I would recommend following Steven Rosenberg, Scott Dworkin, Heather Cox Richardson, Robert Hubbell, Meidas Network and of course Aaron Parnas just to name a few who focus on what’s happening on the ground.
Thanks for the update, Robert, but you seem to have left out the election in Kentucky's U.S. House 5th district where Democrat Ned Pillersdorf, Legal Services attorney and star of the TV series, "The Big Conn," will take down our 88-year-old, 18-term Republican Representative Hal Rogers. Ned managed to recruit over 200 attorneys from all over the U.S. to represent pro bono Eric Conn's many clients who had their Social Security payments stopped due to the massive fraud perpetrated by their lawyer Conn, who bribed a judge to rule in his favor on hundreds of cases. Ned has made a name for himself in the nation's poorest congressional district in eastern Kentucky by caring for the people who were taken advantage of by Conn for many years before Conn was caught, convicted, and jailed.
Back in the days of Alexander, being great meant that you had killed a lot of people.
The world’s richest man paid over $200M to gain government access also cut USAid Funds and as a direct result has killed an estimated 750,000 people, mostly kids… so far. More to come.
Good. I stopped eating meat 11 years ago. Lots of reasons to not eat meat, start with biochemistry 101:
Meat or protein is an inefficient and dirty fuel. Too many steps to make ATP and when you burn protein as a fuel the byproduct is ammonia. With unprocessed carbohydrates and healthy fats it takes few steps to make ATP and the byproduct is CO2 and water.
Your body only needs protein to make its own protein, proteins are like construction equipment they do things. I take brewers yeast (or nutritional) yeast as a supplement, it’s loaded with all the amino acids the body needs to make all the proteins it needs.
Also consider that meat is murder. Every living thing on earth evolved from fish, even insects came from crustaceans. This is why all mammals have the exact same brain structure, the exact same NEURO hormones that give us our feelings. Animals just have fewer neurons, way fewer connections and different circuits that give them their behaviors. But when a fish gets bullied by another fish, it releases the exact same stress hormones we release and this is also why animals share most of our DNA.
See the book: your inner fish.
The hiccup is the leftover remnant from the first amphibians and all mammals hiccup. Today tadpoles switch between their gills and lungs with a sustained hiccup.. your inner fish.
Follow Trumps comments about primaries the Republicans (or Trump) have already lost to date, such as California. He is doing everything stupid to lost. So Why? Is he crazy? Maybe, hope so. Or is there another possible strategy? What if he is enabling a loss on purpose as part of a bigger takeover strategy? What if he is planning to lose on purpose to justify calling fraud and calling out the National Guard and FBI to seize the ballets and do his own recount? Based on his phone call with North Carolina in 2020, I would place bets he tries something like this. The midterms have to be a landslide against him in order to ward off his usual funny business.
I think you mean Trump’s phone call to GA, not NC? I hope Dems in charge are running each possible way Trump can cheat in order to counter. Have no doubt that we will all be outraged. The money spent will be outrageous.
If you're as disheartened as I am by the idea of "maybe the Democrats get enough of a majority to change things, and if not then oops, better luck next time, I guess we wait until 2028", then I have a strategy that could actually change politics in this country, rather than just trying to re-tune the fiddle we're all dancing to while Rome burns around us.
I'll be launching it on June 29! I won't go into all the details here, but the short version is that I'll be starting a grassroots movement with the explicit goal to amend the United States Constitution faster than anyone ever imagined was possible—something that can only be done now, when everyone can see how bad things have gotten.
If you want to know how it's even possible in the first place, subscribe to Unfucking The World. It is and will always be free; I won't accept donations or even pledges. If my efforts fail, it must only be me who has lost anything.
If my efforts succeed, though, we ALL get the benefit of seeing a new world take shape.
That’s my cue. Apologies for the overly long repost. If DNC did their job, it wouldn’t be necessary.
Pasted below are suggested planks for November, amended by substack readers. Since there are nearly 50, each state has been randomly assigned one plank to research. If incumbents and candidates collaborate with on just one issue per state, we can tackle the scores of pressing problems impacting our nation. We WILL have the country that was promised 400 years ago but it will require unprecedented cooperation, like Quincy Jones got when he made “We Are The World.” He posted a sign that applies here: “check your ego at the door.” Or emigrate. Like the celebrities who got rich here but won’t stay and fight. If DNC has better ideas, let’s hear them?
(BTW, the assignments are random. Who knew AI had a sense of humor?)
1. Medicare for all, including mental health, dental, and vision. Assign to South Dakota.
2. Running water for all. Assign to Delaware.
3. Safe, affordable, adequate housing for all. Assign to Maryland.
4. Climate change course correction. Assign to Kentucky.
5. National “Annual Yearly Progress” educational standards that apply to all students: public school, private school, home school. Assign to Washington.
6. Nutrition and pesticides. There’s a reason why US wheat imports are banned in EU. Assign to Vermont.
7. Paths to citizenship and statehood. Assign to Minnesota.
8. Metric system instead of imperial measurements. Every country in the world has made the switch except the US, Liberia, and Myanmar. Assign to Arkansas.
9. Reading and math literacy. Assign to Iowa.
10. Maternal and infant survival (US has the worst rates among developed countries). Assign to Hawaii.
11. Restore DEI. My disability requires electronic communication (email or chat with a transcript) but legal teams don’t like written records. I have to surrender agency and assign a proxy to manage a credit card issue or schedule a mammogram. Disney sent me an email stating that they’re “phones only.” What’s next? Telling guests in wheelchairs to manage the stairs? Assign to Colorado.
12. Zero tolerance of corruption. Assign to New Hampshire.
13. Child care. Montessori is Head Start in Italy. It was invented there to lift up disadvantaged children. In the US, we’ve made it a designer brand that’s unaffordable for those who need it most and for whom it was intended. Assign to North Carolina.
14. Amend the 2nd amendment. Texas has more than 4000 gun deaths per year. FL takes silver with more than 3000. Together, they’re responsible for more than 17% of the 40,000 annual gun deaths in the US. The UK has 28. Not 28,000. Not 2800. 28. Their cops are unarmed. Everyone wins. Assign to Arizona.
15. FOIA restored without the loopholes. Assign to Oregon.
16. Enforcement of the laws, regs and court decisions that are on the books but ignored. Assign to Wisconsin.
17. Abortion rights enshrinement. Assign to Mississippi.
18. Marriage equality enshrinement. Assign to Florida.
19. Infrastructure investment. Assign to California.
20. Internet for all. Assign to Nevada.
21. We need to stop flushing drinking-quality water. We’re running out. Assign to Illinois.
22. Return the Black Hills. Assign to Tennessee.
23. Reparations. Assign to Louisiana.
24. Livable wages in decent working conditions, ideally in a union environment. Assign to Michigan.
25. End citizens united. Assign to Connecticut.
26. Inheritance reform. Assign to Montana.
27. Enshrine social security. Assign to West Virginia.
28. Reform SCOTUS and court system. Assign to North Dakota.
29. Campaign finance reform. Assign to Georgia.
30. Tax reform. Assign to Alaska.
31. Commitment to ethical conduct. Assign to New York.
32 Commitment to “truthfulness, transparency, and accountability.” Assign to Ohio.
33. Texas: Enshrine voting rights. Assign to Texas,
34. Outlaw NDAs. They were meant to protect secret formulas, not silence the voices of victims. Assign to New Jersey.
35. Join ICC. Assign to Missouri.
36. Restore the covenant of “good faith and fair dealing.” Assign to Maine.
37. Term limits. Public service is not for accumulating power and influence, it’s for serving the people. Assign to Indiana.
38. Mandatory service to by all citizens reaching 18 for two years in public works, AmeriCorp, National Guard, or other similar organization. Assign to Utah.
39. Prison reform. Assign to Alabama.
40. Free college or vocational training. Assign to Virginia.
41. Eliminate electoral college. Assign to Idaho.
42. End private equity investment. Assign to Rhode Island.
43.End tipping. It’s out of control and our global neighbors don’t do it. Assign to Pennsylvania.
44. Issue new SS numbers to each citizen now that ours have been compromised. Assign to Wyoming.
45.Animal Welfare Act. AKC “breed standards” require docked tails and cropped ears for some dogs. The US and Russia are among the only nations where cosmetic mutilation of dogs is legal. Global leaders Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI, France) and The Kennel Club (KC, UK) preserve breed standards without these cruel practices. We can do the same. Assign to Kansas.
46.Regulate contracts signed by—and conditions endured by—pregnancy surrogates. Assign to New Mexico.
So why is the Democratic party not reforming itself by getting rid of super pac and dark money in the primaries, letting independent voters vote in the primaries, and supporting public financing of campaigns? Why is the party not insuring that the candidates in the general election represent the voters and not the money behind the party? Why is the party not practicing triage and prioritizing what the issues are rather than acting like everything is of equal importance?
Why do the Democrats allow the Republicans to hijack religious issues. I would ask the voters what does the parable of the good Samaritan mean and how are the words of Jesus not woke!!!!
Thank you for the summary. I appreciate it.
Don’t just appreciate it .. SHARE IT .. it’s our Summer Homework!
Make it a BINGO GAME for NOVEMBER!
@occupydemocrats @RepublicanAccountability

Wonder if would have any positive impact with independents or non-MAGA Republican voters if Adam Kinzinger campaigned for James Talarico since he now lives in Texas?

Are you aware of the new law in Hawaii htat prohibits corporations from donating to local elections? What do yu think?
Yes, I was aware of this and I think there is another state that has this or is close to voting this in as well. I think it's a great idea. Get corporations out of our government and leave it to the grassroots people donating.
montana-they've seen the light-maybe
Yes, I think you are correct. I hope other states follow suite.
many other states have also been ravaged by corporate tentacles,so perhaps you're right
Montana has a referendum on the ballot this fall about this issue.
A truly fantastic idea!
I read that and was thrilled. I hope it’s contagious to the other states.
We need a similar law in Ohio, but it won’t happen unless we expel the Republicans, who have gerrymandered themselves into power.

I live in Texas, and in my neighborhood neighbors have already started to create their own Dem platform signs and plant them in their front yards along with the traditional candidate campaign signs. I'll work on that here in NJ!
Totally agree, the DNC is perennially wet. And the endless beseeching for money turns my stomach.

THANK YOU for the hard work that went into this résumé. Those of us who haven't given up have lots more work to do.
Defend democracy for the sake of the common people, and not the self centred plutocrats who have prospered with The Thug`s tax cuts.
Thanks so much! Makes things much clearer and easy to 7nderstand!
