Yes, the memory part is gone. My memory of being told how my grandfather doctor went out in a diphtheria epidemic to a family only to find out all the family was dead. The memory of being told my cousin was in an iron lung during a polio epidemic. Of the fear in my mother when I had chicken pox and later measles as a common after effect was vision or hearing loss. The WHO, a United Nations organization, which developed a strategy to eradicate the 3,500 year old scourge of small pox where 30% of those contracting small pox died. One needs to be my age, 83, to possess those memories.
