Jerry--The absence of a speaker isn't the entire problem. The structure of the leadership is. I can see no provisions made in the event the appointed speaker becomes absent. There should be a vice chair in the wings for just such an occasion. This is a measure the powers that be should implement, as you stated, ASAP.

Donald, I did not state that nor do I agree. The Speaker is elected, not appointed. And there is a provision for a temporary Speaker with limited powers to hold the office during any vacancy. Rep. McHenry is currently in that position.
As you say, there is no provision for a vice-chair to assume full power. I would argue that is as it should be. The alternative would introduce malign intrigue and undermine the Speaker's authority.
Jerry--Kevin cut his own throat by dealing with Gaetz in his attempt to ascend to the chair he so aggressively desired. No matter what, the situation we currently have remains substandard. We are in need of a fix.
You mean the current Republican organization is in need of all new and even a bit more intelligent members. I say 'a bit more' because the current membership in the House and Senate try to be clever not intelligent. Being clever is, to me, an approach to an end and being intelligent is a beginning.
There will be no moving forward for our democracy with people like that no matter which party they belong to. We have entrenched power hungry people in both parties, or all, that need to be replaced by people that value why democracy was chosen by the writers of the Constitution as the template.
The Constitution gives steps (amendments, etc.) for future generations to aspire/inspire and codify laws for JUSTICE and EQUALITY for all. Laws need to be in place to govern and even restrict all powers in this country, be it public or private. There should be no influence given to private interests, only to the people that are meant to govern through ejected representatives.
Hatred and it's progenitor, fear, have no role in society. Anger and frustration serve purposes, when marshalled, just as love, charity and compassion do. I do believe society/culture has evolved enough to outlaw hate speech. We have the tools, the algorithms and the definitions to identify speech and images meant to incite violence and fear.
Ellen--Politically, we currently have in place the necessary rules and regulations that will allow us and the country to operate smoothly. The problem lies with all the egocentric idiots that don't believe in following the laws of the land. I live by a simple rule, I do as I please as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

MAGA is HATE
P A--I see it as ignorance bathed in self confusion,-------with the capacity to hate.
And scared of what Scump might do to them if...
They have themselves convinced that they stand w/ them.
