It seems to be run on the say so of greedy billionaires. They are very rich, but are ethically and morally bankrupt. It's nauseating to see grown men behave like snivelling creeps towards a figure who commands zero respect.
I'm beginning to wonder if great wealth immediately confers insanity, because there doesn't seem to be any other explanation. These people would never have to work for the next 100,000 years, and they still pinch every penny. It's nuts.
And--BOYCOTT CBS! Make the ratings tank. Hit them in the pocketbook as it's the only soft spot they have.
But Trump has the power to either make them rich or to wreck them. If you are going to get out of this mess, you really need to find a way to do it without the aid of billionaires, and that includes Tom Steyer.
When this country which is based on free speech lets this happen it is very sick, indeed, and has forsaken its constitution and ethics. When a person can't take a joke at their expense or laugh at themselves that shows a basic fault and weakness in their personality and extreme insecurity
Worse is seeking revenge and this bilious billionaire enabling that revenge. Appalling. Not watching ANYTHING on CBS while this dude has power over it.
For good or ill, CBS has hits like Matlock and Elsbeth which are genuinely wonderful, and Paramount+ has the entire catalog of both old and new Star Trek.
I would rather enjoy a comic's rendition of how the world is fairing then hear a pack of lies from a man who could never fill the shoes of an individual worthy of leading this country..
We need to take a queue from Teddy Roosevelt and break up the Megacorps. We need to acknowledge in an amended Constitution that people don’t need or deserve this kind of wealth and power because it is built on the backs of working Americans and extracted from their pockets.
Yes, but we have totally lost our way & needed a real kick in the head on many levels, requiring a comprehensive "makeover" for some time now. Too bad the "kick" has had to be so painful and the results we need may take a looong time to procure.
It’ll last as long as he pays for it. In our market, he already bought the four time slots after Colbert. His theme music was always a signal to turn off the TV.
Just think of it as a weird extended infomercial. When they became the norm (I am old - I remember a formal signoff after the evening news when I was a young girl, and watching the test pattern come up. Byron Allen does find some fun comedians for his show, but he definitely is not near as funny as he thinks he is. But definitely not worth keeping CBS/Paramount subscription going. And their news is worthless.
BIG MISTAKE!!!!! WE WILL BOYCOTT THE NETWORK and all connections to it FOREVER MORE REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY PROGRAM… SOSOSOSOSOSO STUPID AND MEAN AND UN-AMERICAN… HITLER IS SMILING IN HIS GRAVE AND PUTIN AND THE OTHER DICTATORS ARE THRILLED.. 1984 HAS BECOME THE DICTATOR’S BIBLE.. THE FOOLS JUST TOUCHED THE THIRD RAIL. Mary Heinz
Mary et al, Trump ADORES HITLER AND EVERYTHING HE STOOD FOR! MAY THE DEMENTED YAM DUMPSTER S-O-O-N MEET THE SAME END! HOPE HE'S CARRYING CYANAIDE IN HIS POCKETS -- IT AIN'T GONNA BE PRETTY!
No one can replace Steven Colbert, but I'm betting that he'll continue doing his comedy show, perhaps on Comedy Central ❓ TGIF to you and your readers, professor, have a good, safe Memorial Day weekend, and will reStack ASAP 🙏
I sure hope he comes back, but I think Comedy Central is owned by Paramount. Donald will probably come after that next. A safe and pleasant weekend to you and yours as well. =)
It won't be Comedy Central. Take a look at their current line-up: 10 new South Park episodes that aired last fall and ALREADY SEEM QUAINT, M-TH episodes of the Daily Show, and THAT'S IT. The rest of the schedule is filled with endless South Park reruns. Comedy Central has close to ZERO INTEREST in creating new content.
In 1950s England, it was considered poor form to criticize a prime minister or even a bishop. Then in the early 1960s, Alan Bennett performed a wonderful sketch ridiculing the Church of England https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0qOD9rtOEE . At the end of 7 minutes the entire audience is screaming with laughter. John Cleese attributes the sea change in British culture, leading to Beyond the Fringe, Monty Python, swinging London, etc., to this sketch.
Don't worry, these clowns WILL leave the stage and we WILL get America back.
In Trinidad, the home of Calypso songs, during the Mardi Gras festival, they compete in the main auditorium for songs that castigate and accuse the politicians of all kinds of transgressions. I went down there specially to see what was happening in Calypso and was delighted to discover that satire and parody are alive and well.
Thanks Robert: Steven Colbert may surface on another outlet. Boycott CBS and boycott all those who buy advertising spots. Watch MS-NOW Owners are Versant Media Group Inc We the People are the ones who rule. Get involved with the boycotts.
Remember this one: we are BORG. Resistance is futile. You WILL be assimilated.
Star Fleet Captain Jean Luc Picard. That was fantasy. THIS is reality. Colbert is irreplaceable.
I don't even watch TV any more. It's useless tripe, unworthy of acknowledgement. Too many other interesting things to do: NO KINGS, Reich, Meidas, Dworkin, Parnas, et al; y'know worthwhile endeavors.
Byron is not off to a good start before the show even airs. Given what CBS did to Colbert, his presence will only serve to rub salt into the wound. After reading Byron's bio on Wikipedia (I try not to use AI), he comes off as an ambitious media mogul "wannabe", whose central career goal is to make "money", lots of it, mostly by buying up media venues, the latest being a controlling stake in Buzzfeed for $120 million. Why, I wonder, does he want to take center stage for a humiliation spectacle sponsored by fascists. Hubris or something more politically nefarious?
I haven't watched television in years except for political debates and election coverage. Being a morning person, I never watched any late-night comedy, but I believe strongly in freedom of expression, and Colbert, when he gets done writing his movie, will find a better outlet for his humor than what was stupidly taken away from him. However, my own viewing habits aside, my husband and I will boycott CBS indefinitely.
I watched the last show and then cancelled my Paramount+ subscription. Funnily enough they asked why I was cancelling. I pressed the “other” option and wrote “Because you cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” I hope they get a LOT of cancellations.
Stephen Colbert's show has gotten me and mine through some dark times. He continued his show through the pandemic, where we lost over a million American's, the number being so high because of our "president" dissolving the department that Pres. Obama had put in place to handle just such a pandemic. Donald further endangered our people with his slow, and then effectually compromised response to the crisis and his minions further complicated the problem by refusing to isolate or wear masks. We all saw Donald's absolutely idiotic press conference where he came up with the "brilliant" idea to use UV light and/or bleach on the human body where it would "wipe out the virus in a minute". Now the DB in Chief is back in power and the man who brought delight to millions (along with all his staff, his writers and his terrific band) are all out of a job. I watched the last show and did not sleep at all well last night. It felt like one more piece of the America I know was dying.
Trump rejected the epidemic plan put in place by George W Bush- the Presidents after just updated with new science and kept it in the top drawer of the desk. Dump so stupid he threw out the contents of the desk without even looking at it…if he had only followed it he would have been the GOAT for saving so many lives
This country is sick.
It seems to be run on the say so of greedy billionaires. They are very rich, but are ethically and morally bankrupt. It's nauseating to see grown men behave like snivelling creeps towards a figure who commands zero respect.
Very well said!
And, how much money does a person actually need?
I'm beginning to wonder if great wealth immediately confers insanity, because there doesn't seem to be any other explanation. These people would never have to work for the next 100,000 years, and they still pinch every penny. It's nuts.

Their ratings were already tanking.

Good! Maybe we can shut them down completely until the bosses get their heads out of their asses--or their tongues off Der Fuhrer's shoes.
But Trump has the power to either make them rich or to wreck them. If you are going to get out of this mess, you really need to find a way to do it without the aid of billionaires, and that includes Tom Steyer.

Me, too, Susie!

Don't worry. He won't be producing anything you WANT to see.
You got it, Donald -- "an individual worthy of leading this country"!!!
I agree Richard, but we are resilient and will recover. Get out the vote!
We need to take a queue from Teddy Roosevelt and break up the Megacorps. We need to acknowledge in an amended Constitution that people don’t need or deserve this kind of wealth and power because it is built on the backs of working Americans and extracted from their pockets.
Or maybe a revised Constitution.
Absolutely!
a *cue though
Yes, but we have totally lost our way & needed a real kick in the head on many levels, requiring a comprehensive "makeover" for some time now. Too bad the "kick" has had to be so painful and the results we need may take a looong time to procure.
Well that new show won't last very long. T They are going to be very sorry that they did this to Stephen Colbert.
I won't be watching that's for sure! Randy Rainbow has a great new song out saying "Where is Congress?" Please listen for a good laugh!
Just watched Rainbow Randy! Terrific! Thank you!!
Oh I did and he was spot on about that dope in the WH
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, Lisa, I love Randy!

As will I and my family.
Hitler's takeover of the Reichstag was amateur hour compared to Trump's takeover of America.
I cried.

although, isn't jon stewart once again on comedy central doing a weekly episode of the daily show?

He can't be replaced... CBS is going down!!
"To add insult to this corrupt injury, CBS is putting Byron Allen into Colbert’s 11:35 pm time slot. "
Prediction:
They stayed away in droves...
Remember this one: we are BORG. Resistance is futile. You WILL be assimilated.

There are plenty of books to read and reread.
I propose that we all cancel CBS
I have watched advertisements for Byron Allen’s show. It’s not funny. I am no longer watching CBS. CBS will lose viewers.
Byron is not off to a good start before the show even airs. Given what CBS did to Colbert, his presence will only serve to rub salt into the wound. Me too -- but first I'm going to record a few programs and make a list of the sponsors so I can boycott them and tell them why.
I watched the last show and then cancelled my Paramount+ subscription. Funnily enough they asked why I was cancelling. I pressed the “other” option and wrote “Because you cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” I hope they get a LOT of cancellations.
