Thats a really good one. The best I've read so far. Sure wish I had thought of it. I'm actually rather envious. Bravo!

As a massive Jaws fan with a shirt with the original saying on it! Props to you!! I came here way to late to even think of one but this is perfect!

Thanks. I usually can't think of anything appropriate as a caption, but this jus popped into my head. I use variations of the original quote from time to time because it lends itself well to that.

Getting a little close. We need to decide, row v wade?

In too deep to wade, there are no oars. Need to vote!

Did you see the antiquated design though? It looks like a smaller version of the Nina. Pinta or Santa Maria. It would not outrun a large killer whale though.

True! it IS a cartoon!

We learned in college Sociology (1980), that the uneducated have more children than the educated. Typically, children of the uneducated will not be sent to college, thus there will be more and more uneducated.

Ultimately, there will come a time when we will be outnumbered by the uneducated.

Forty years later I find we are at this juncture, when a majority of people think bully Trump is presidential material, and they cannot recognize he is mentally ill.

Expand full comment

Look at what some states are doing to ensure there are more uneducated. They are also now targeting and undermining any professionals, such as teachers, doctors, scientists, etc. Unfortunately, we cannot easily tackle that with the current Congress. We need to increase Dem seats in Senate and retain the house to address some of these issues with effective longterm solutions.

Public hearings on topics (in other words public school classes for adults)

And there's a mentality that says my ignorance is just as important as your intelligence.

Expand full comment

Sometimes more important. Somehow being educated is equated with not having common sense in some areas.

That's the plot of "Idiocracy".

There is a reason why Trump said, " I love the uneducated"

While the Rs have made it impossible for lower income women to control their body. Denying abortions & trying to legislate birth control. The most heinous of plans now revealed. While self fulfilling what they've been using as a fear tactic, Replacement Theory in the making. That's OK, Biden is making it easier for the lowest income to get a higher education. So... creating more compassionate, educated citizens, Democrats! Failing in our favor!

Expand full comment

The movie "IDIOCRACY" explains it all!😄

Expand full comment

Isn't that the plan? To create a generation of slush heads that will blindly follow along with anything Corporate Massa puts them through? The fallacy here is: what have they gained? Who wants to be nothing more than a glorified shepherd in a dying pasture?

Expand full comment

which is the republican game plan...eschew education, keep em dumb and unaware of just what the 'publicans have planned for the rest of us...seems the whole 'woke' ploy and banning books and revising history to only cover the white nationialist pov. dont have to be a Rhodes scholar to see where they want to take the country.

Lots of educated people support Trump. And we know how to get at risk kids through school!

Expand full comment

Lying to at risk kids is not education. There is no proof the election was stolen. In fact, there is abundant evidence Trump conspired to overturn a lawful election. Trump lost. The proliferation of gun culture causes school shootings. Climate change denial will lead to a world of superstorms, water and food shortages, and war. Trump told you to drink bleach. Please wake up and smell the fascism, for the sake of every child, for everyone.

Elizabeth . . . two types of folks support Trump: those who are easily culted, and those who cult others, whether knowingly or not. The latter are often "educated," but their social IQ is warped.

I'm not sure what your second sentence refers to -- perhaps a personal story? But Trump was and still is "at risk" and was passed illegitimately through school -- probably because of (1) his daddy; and (2) teachers just wanted to get rid of him. That's not the standard that many of us want for "at risk" children.

Expand full comment

I will add . . . there is a 3rd type of Trump voter: the ones who don't like him, but hold their noses and vote for him because they are situated well economically and don't want that to change. While in denial that the rest of the country may go to hell.

Sorry I was not clear. I was replying to a comment that suggested that the uneducated vote for Trump. This may so be as a higher % but educated people like him too especially those who are wealthy and don't want to contribute to the common good. And if we are talking about kids who don't get an education, well that is our fault and this should be a lesson of the Trump era. MY frustration is that we know well after 20 years of research how to keep kids in school until Grade 12. We just don't want to pay for the interventions needed to help get kids who are risk through school to grade 12. They include, special support for kids with learning disabilities, mentoring, accessible and affordable sports , nurse visits to at risk mums until the kids are in primary school.

I don't agree with you that the Trumpers are socially warped and labeling them as such just creates more walls. Many have credible reasons for not trusting governments especially those left behind by neoliberalism and the flight of manufacturing offshore. Nothing was done to support those workers to compensate for their loss in terms of retraining or bridge support. And it was not necessary as Lincoln Electric ....a fortune 500 company that manufactures welding products. NO layoffs.....wages fluctuate with company income and 33% of PRE-TAX profit is shared with workers. The average guy on line makes enough to live in middle class neighbourhoods and send her kids to university. And the company, never has to rehire and retrain when the market turns around....leaving the competiiton in the dust. My point is we have to look at why Trump has been able to attract so many and mount programs or change policies to meet their needs. And respect them....

The educated people that support Trump are the most frightening and baffling of all.

They are voting to “protect their money” but do not realize they will be in an autocracy a that will exclude them if they do not have “enough” money. It will be a rude awakening in to find themselves to be “not rich enough.”Democracy is what must be protected.
