Daniel, I like your points. Both are critical for understanding how people vote. For some reason, we focus on our differences far more than what we have in common. I think that is because we have a lot in common and make groups based on how we are different from others. The future requires us to reach across the divides you mention because with global warming and the other challenges we face, we are going to need everyone involved in finding solutions rural and urban, all racial/cultural groups, all genders, etc. Republicans are trying hard to pretend that our differences define us completely and that global warming isn't happening. That will change as each one of us is forced to face the reality of a desperately sick planet.
