I hope you mention the role of education in creating a citizen in a democracy. I think it the biggest single shortcoming in our democracy.

We need to educate or own people and those wishing to immigrate to our country before they or us are allowed to voting privileges to facilitate greater voting competency, but definatly the program should be required for electors of our electoral college system. It should be a fun event showcasing volunteer american historians and could feature exceptional teachers nominated on merit from all grades. It should be an enjoyable celebration of our rich melting pot culture, where we can learn from interacting with members of other cultures, and could be done as a community center potluck or summer outdoor picnic, if participants prefer that to online classes,. Think about it!

Please review One Person One Vote. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_man,_one_vote What do you think would result from allowing the GOP to require education testing for voting? I lived through the Civil Rights Movement, in which we worked to allow black people to register to vote. I have the physical scars. Prof. Reich's and my friend Mickey Schwerner was murdered in Mississippi (see Mississippi Freedom Summer) for trying to register black people to vote. If the SCOTUS can overturn 50 years of settled law re abortion rights, what do you think will stop them from overturning Reynolds v. Sims? https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/377/533/

One Person One Vote is something we need to fight hard to educate our American public about, but also we need to preemptively organize to defend overturning Reynolds v. Sims, because if the current authoritarian Trumpian Banana Republicans become able to neutralize its effect, in light of our Southern Racist Recessionist history of attempting to divide our Republic, though Abraham Lincoln determined that attempts to do so were not constitutional because that would lead to a less perfect Union, they will get rid of proportional representation in State Senates, because it thwarts their political agenda. However rather than simply oppose Trump Republican Recessionist, we need to communicatively interact and organize withe Lincoln based Union Republicans to divide the current Republican party between its Recessionist and as many Unionist as we can muster working together, to assure two functionating political parties so we can effectively operate our two party system as one unified nation as our Constitution intends, and to deter the ability of white racist, radical Libertarian racist and Trump Republicans from effectively getting into a position of influence where the can do away with anti-racist provisions of Reynolds v. Sims. It is past time to earnestly start searching for organized white terrorist cells in America. If we ignore them, we can only expect more racist killings. The racist secessionist lost our Civil War, so they have no Constitutional right to work to divide the Union of our United States.

The remedy is legislation. Need to overwhelm them at the ballot box. "Lincoln based Union Republicans" are Democrats. https://www.fieldteam6.org/

Over decades and generations most Lincoln Republicans have crossed over to the Democratic party because of social issues. Racist Southern Democrats piled into the Republican party under Goldwater, Nixon and, then Regan, but it is more complicated than Lincoln Republicans are Democrats. The US is historically Conservative enough that only Centrist, Moderate Republicans, and Conservative Democrats can be electable and work together to get infrastructure built over time, and that is what will build the wealth necessary to pay for social programs like Build Back Better. The capitol growth must be there to invest first to pay for the social programs or they will draw down and become insolvent. Congresspeople are very wealthy, and they are there to get access to financial information that would normally be illegal insider trading and prostitute themselves to well-endowed interest, so it is not possible to get taxing the wealthy to pay for infrastructure through Congress. Progressivism and infrastructure are not exclusively be far left issues. The US will not ever be a Democratic Socialist country, look at the history, but everyone needs infrastructure. Congress will defund the work, if we do not have Teddys working in conjunction with Franklins before its ever finished. However, if Conservative Progressives and Left Progressives work together to keep it funded over time, bug eye Rand Paul’s will not succeed in passing legislation to defund it. Democrats cannot do it alone and the wealthy are not going to pay disproportionately in the United States.

Don't bet on ANY Republican support. Trump has exorcised the party. If we get out the vote, we outnumber them.

Looking forward to tomorrows class. I've been to all of them thus far and have learned so much. I can't believe there's only 2 classes left. :( I can't thank Professor Reich enough for allowing us to participate virtually, what a pleasure this has been.

Today I had a conversation with a woman who grew up in Honduras and immigrated here around 20 years ago. Despite the hardship of missing a lot of school due to family issues, she feels that she got a better elementary and high school education there than her daughter has received here in a mixture of public and Catholic schools. Pretty shocking, no?
