It takes roughly 420 personnel to manage Central Park. It’s 341 ha in size. Let’s scale that up to Canada’s 1 billion hectares, and assume that only 50% of that area requires management accounting for lake, tundra, etc. That comes to 616 million workers to maintain Canada to Trump’s Central Park standard. That's a lot of rakes, so the rake factories had best crank up production.

Canadian here. We know the vast majority of Americans are as horrified and tired of this as we are. I have my fingers crossed that there will be a blue tsunami on steroids come November, and that starting in January every member of the cabinet that is enabling him will be hauled up by the short and curlies in front of a Democratic Congress.
Also Canadian here, and I politely offer a differing opinion. Firstly, hope is not a valid stategy. Secondly, in rough numbers, 1/3 of USians voted for a smart lady, 1/3 voted for an orange turd convicted felon, and 1/3 couldn't be arsed to vote at all. In preparation for the coming election, one side is muttering to itself, "Oh yeah, we'll show you" while the other side is readying masked and armed thugs to 'supervise' at the polling stations.

People don't vote for lots of other reasons:
• When you only have 2 major parties, corruption becomes a very big issue. Many people stopped voting when nothing changed no matter who was in power.
• Gerrymandering has made voting largely ineffective in many states. Doesn't matter how you vote, the states are either solid red or blue.
• Deliberate understaffing in certain districts forces people (including the elderly and disabled) into long lines that can last 6 hours or more.
• Sudden changes in polling places mean people are confused about where they are supposed to vote. Sometimes Republicans deliberately send literature indicating an incorrect polling place for that address. So a person stands on line for hours and finds they are in the wrong place and then has to find the correct place and stand in line for hours again.
• Draconian laws that make it ILLEGAL for people to off those standing in line a portable chair or even a bottle of water. This is to deliberately force the elderly and disabled from voting. In hot climates people can be standing in the broiling sun (100F) for literally HOURS and no one can offer them any relief.
Brian, yours is not so much a different opinion as a different account of the situation. Individual Americans cannot change reality just by wishing things were different, but what we don't need are more reasons to feel hopeless and despair.

In terms of wildfires - a pretext Trump used for new tariffs on Canadian goods and services saying that smoke drifting across the US border from Canada is 'unacceptable' and so he must punish us with tariffs.
Meanwhile, it is ACTUALLY the case that US wildfires in 2026 are far worse than those in Canada --- and that their smoke is drifting northwards. 44,000 wildfires now in the US. 3,600 in Canada.
Worse, it is a fact that wildfires in Missouri jumped the border northwards and set Ontario forests on fire. One could suppose they jumped the border because US and Missouri authorities didn't control them well enough, hm? Hm?
Meanwhile, Canada keeps sending teams to help STOP fires, in California, Colorado and elsewhere. A Canadian helicopter pilot died last week fighting wildfires, in Colorado, if I recall correctly.

Remember that Trump grew up in New York City, which is mile after mile of concrete and asphalt. He thinks managing Canada’s forests is like managing Central Park. It takes roughly 420 personnel to manage Central Park. It’s 341 ha in size. Let’s scale that up to Canada’s 1 billion hectares, and assume that only 50% of that area requires management accounting for lake, tundra, etc. That comes to 616 million workers to maintain Canada to Trump’s Central Park standard. That's a lot of rakes, so the rake factories had best crank up production.

In case you are unaware, the predominant US chain in Canada is owned by a US hedge fund and media conglomerate called Chatham Asset Management. Influence peddling within our borders! I grew up close to Canada, but not as close as you (Utica NY) but we are still huge Bills fans. I remember growing up there seeing loads of Canadian license plates because there was prolific travel across the border, both ways, and we were accustomed to the Canadian license plates as part of every day life. Our cable TV included at least a couple Canadian stations. Now, I'm not a huge sports fan, but I do kinda follow the Bills since they are the closest to a hometown team that we have/had.

Canadian here. We know the vast majority of Americans are as horrified and tired of this as we are. I have my fingers crossed that there will be a blue tsunami on steroids come November, and that starting in January every member of the cabinet that is enabling him will be hauled up by the short and curlies in front of a Democratic Congress.
Also Canadian here, and I politely offer a differing opinion. Firstly, hope is not a valid stategy. Secondly, in rough numbers, 1/3 of USians voted for a smart lady, 1/3 voted for an orange turd convicted felon, and 1/3 couldn't be arsed to vote at all. In preparation for the coming election, one side is muttering to itself, "Oh yeah, we'll show you" while the other side is readying masked and armed thugs to 'supervise' at the polling stations.
How do you know how all these people who stayed home would have voted?
I make no apologies for Trump voters. I've lost family and friends over the issue. You voted for this nightmare? Have a nice life. We can no longer be friends. These people have been manipulated and brainwashed - literally. And there is no reasoning with them.
People don't vote for lots of other reasons:
• When you only have 2 major parties, corruption becomes a very big issue. Many people stopped voting when nothing changed no matter who was in power.
• Gerrymandering has made voting largely ineffective in many states. Doesn't matter how you vote, the states are either solid red or blue.
• Deliberate understaffing in certain districts forces people (including the elderly and disabled) into long lines that can last 6 hours or more.
• Sudden changes in polling places mean people are confused about where they are supposed to vote. Sometimes Republicans deliberately send literature indicating an incorrect polling place for that address. So a person stands on line for hours and finds they are in the wrong place and then has to find the correct place and stand in line for hours again.
• Draconian laws that make it ILLEGAL for people to off those standing in line a portable chair or even a bottle of water. This is to deliberately force the elderly and disabled from voting. In hot climates people can be standing in the broiling sun (100F) for literally HOURS and no one can offer them any relief.
