I can write my senators, sure. But I would really like you to name those Democratic senators willing to vote for this pro-Crypto bill. Just saying some Democrats won't help us stop them. Name and shame works. I agree that the bill is rotten, and so are the politicians who support it.
Democratic Senators Ruben Gallego and Angela Alsobrooks are the only members of the caucus to explicitly support the CLARITY Act. They previously voted to advance it through the Senate Banking Committee.Several other Democratic senators are currently engaged in negotiations and may be willing to vote for the legislation if specific amendments are met. These "negotiable" senators include Mark Warner, Raphael Warnock, and Catherine Cortez Masto, who have previously backed amendments.
Thanks. I despised Gallego and Alsobrooks’ initial acceptance of crypto (since I’d previously sent voting letters to their constituents and celebrated their wins) and now Warnock too! What is wrong with these people?
Absolutely nothing is wrong with them. Its legal and they stand to benefit. Quite possibly they also feel not that many people will be negatively affected.
what a naive question. There is nothing wrong with these representatives. Political campaigning costs money. Have you ever wondered why all Republican deny climate change?
Here's a draft of part of what I plan to post on Blue Sky:
SHAME ON Senators Ruben Gallego and Angela Alsobrooks for explicitly supporting the CLARITY Act—a bill that would grant greater legitimacy and regulatory certainty to the cryptocurrency industry.
WE'RE WATCHING YOU Senators Mark Warner, Raphael Warnock, and Catherine Cortez Masto. Reports indicate you're negotiating amendments that could lead you to support this bill. Cosmetic changes won't fix a fundamentally flawed proposal. Don't sell out consumers and the public interest. Vote NO on the CLARITY Act.
Good grief! Do they happen to say WHY they support this Act? Since I generally thought highly of these Senators, particularly Gallego and Warnock, I would truly like to know.
💯 Gloria. And we can multitask. If defunding USAID continues, research predicts more than 14 million preventable deaths by 2030, including more than 4 million children under five. If two children are playing and one has two cookies and the other has none, even kindergarteners knows that the right thing to do is share. If only we’d insist on that fairness as adults. Half a million US households don’t even have running water, despite living in the richest nation in the history of the planet.
And how many households that are considered to have indoor plumbing don't have workable systems because they can't afford a plumber?
We have at least 50,000 preventable deaths in the US every year due to not having health insurance. Don't let anyone tell you it's illegal not to treat people in ERs, which is true, but if you can't pay, you won't get care except for visibly bleeding or an obviously deformed fracture.
perfect logic, ISO, but there is another angle from which one can see this issue: if one kid has two cookies and there are ten kids who want to share what should the kid with two cookies do? It's a cruel dilemma.
Google is good for something, Gloria! Also, employ WIKI regarding how the oligarchs of the Nazi regime (e.g. Gustav Krupp) gladly sucked in the tax money
that der fuhrer siphoned to them to engage the World's most destructive war.
Look up how drump's crypto grift from 2025 cost investors 40% of its initial valuation. His meme coin in parallel dropped 96% since then as the gullible got swindled for over $2B and he pocketed $600M. The numbers don't lie.
Banish these complicit scoundrels from government, and esp. Todd Blanche and the complicit jurists of the (Extreme) Court!!
The bill’s movement was led by committee members Senators Ruben Gallego (AZ) and Angela Alsobrooks (MD). It is also supported by Senators Mark Warner (VA), Raphael Warnock (GA), and Catherine Cortez Masto (NV). They are on my list for “some another politician to send my monetary support to” since my NJ Senators aren’t supporting it so far. If they do, they’ll neither get my vote nor my money if they support this money hole. 86 47 Signed a past Republican, past Democrat and present Progressive.
they crypto billionaires use extortion to influence representatives. They let them know that if they do not support them they will finance your opponent.
These are Democratic Senators. If they were Republicans they might be subjected to challenges from MAGATs in the primaries but Democrats? They are either playing in the crypto game or misinformed. Either is unacceptable and inexcusable. “Stand together or hang apart.” 86 47
Crypto has always been sold in part as a money whose supply is determined by a bunch of extra-governmental unaccountable jamokes. Unsurprisingly, they turn out to be crooks who act like crooks, bilking their small patrons, bribing and colluding with politically and commercially powerful people, and of course colluding with each other.
Insofar as crypto is used for anything but shady and criminal activity, its proliferation adulterates the ability of central banks to control money supply and affect interest rates to stabilize the economy.
And that’s where we’re headed. We’re living in a financial bubble. We’re top-heavy with greed. The financial markets and particularly small investors and their 401(k)’s won’t figure this out until it’s too late.
And when the top sliver of the 1% finally manage to get all of the money, which is their cherished goal, the rest of us can go pound sand. There won't be any CCC or other FDR programs to help us just survive this time.
I'm hoping many will remain gainfully employed making pitchforks, torches, and guillotines. The next GOP fiscal collapse is already in progress. This time, when clearing the wreckage, I hope there's no Obama-esque letting bygones be bygones forgiveness for those responsible.
Time to empty the "immigration" prisons. Those folks are hard workers who pay their taxes. Refill them with DT and his crypto scam artists. Life + 100 years sounds fair to me. Vote Blue... GH
Chris, you brought the visuals from both 'Frankenstein' movies, the 1930's original and the Mel Brooks later edition = disgruntled and frightened peasants marching up toward Frankenstein's castle with torches, pitchforks, ready to take the 'Monster' and inhabitants back to the village guillotines ~
It’s likely to amplify business cycles and could in busting precipitate depression, yeah. A major reason for central banks is avoiding that: the bigger crypto gets, the weaker the central bank is in halting possible depression.
crypto is anarchistic. Its promoters are likely to make government more powerful and despotic than ever. Their greed and arrogance blinds them to the long term consequences of what they campaign for.
Kathy, but Trumplandia doesn't care because they think they have stored up enough crypto and other funds that they will be immune from any of the problems their actions cause!
Mary Ann, yes, and Trump pardoned one of the worst offenders in Cryptoland. Of course, Trump and his family and a few choice friends are making a killing on crypto, but that just proves how corrupt they all are and how willing they are to take advantage of the American people, and all of it with impunity, you know, the Supreme Roberts 6 giving a demented old man immunity for whatever he does while in office!
Thank you, Mary Ann! You have helped me understand crypto a little better! I am not surprised these corrupt officials are focusing on more ways to allow criminals to fleece more people! I agree, it is a rotten idea!
as example of 'crypto criminality' I've received a number of extortion//sextortion scams that will only accept 'crypto' in payment of their - silence - and all of these were fraudulent at best ~
Maybe we should publish weekly the list of Democrats who vote on these unpopular bills. Keeps those Democratic defectors in the public eye especially come election time.
Monica. I like it. But I would also like to publish the names of the Republicans who support the bills that are doing so much harm to the American people. Maybe if the MAGAs actually see the name of the rep or senator in print or on the screen, it will drive home that it is not Biden or Obama who are causing their woes, but their own Baby Donnie and his white house and congressional toddler pools that just can't be bothered caring about any of them!
Surely with the mid year elections coming up and in two years an important presidential election coming up, that there is some data base that can be 'interrogated' by an elector to check what bills the House members and Senators had voted for through their terms.
There then should be another list with the voters in each chambers that identifies who voted for and against.
The different party/community organisations would then explain why a bill was good or bad.
A voting record could then be matched to those potential candidates for a Primary/ Election.
The campaign organisers need to explain how far away the persons' vote was from the Party's policies or the community expectations.
The voter can then vote for the candidate who mostly represents their beliefs.
I am sure this information is already available but I would doubt it is readily accessible or distributed to the Voter.
That is where there will be problem having informed voters, especially since big money will be lying about the 'evidence' that conflict's with what they want the voter to believe.
Trump and his billionaire buddies remind me of the Black Hole in space. Crypto is just another way for them to vacuum more money from the American people.
Cryptocurrencies are the 21st century version of the tulip bulbs craze that swept Holland several centuries ago. That didn't end well and neither will this.
I'm not a technical guy, but I suspect all these massive data centers are to store, consolidate all the data about us being scraped from the internet, surveillance cameras and shopping and financial transactions. Then the government can analyze it using AI to turn us into a surveillance society that can easily be manipulated and controlled. China has already done this.
Guillotines are out of patent. Anyone can build one now without paying royalties or license fees. Which is going to make their widespread deployment just that much more satisfying.
I can honestly say that I have absolutely no understanding of crypto! Even after looking it up and trying my best to research it, I still don't understand it. A digital or virtual currency? Blockchain technology? After I studied it a bit, I couldn't help but wonder, do you have to have money in order to use crypto? It only exists electronically so how would anyone know their transactions are actually paid for? This is like the data centers I do not understand. Why in the world is Congress working on things like this "Clarity Act" instead of working on the issues and concerns for many Americans? We need help with healthcare, affordable housing, the high cost of groceries, Social Security, Medicare and oh, I don't know, ACTUAL LIVING? Congress needs to stop playing around with things like crypto and daylight forever time and all of the other stupid, useless things they are focusing on! I do not plan to vote for any Democrat that has been in office for a while. I am going to vote for the candidates that are actually talking about ways they are going to work to address the REAL-WORLD problems we are all concerned with! Keep fighting, America! Stay strong and stay safe!
me too, Peggy, I have almost no understanding of it or the justification for it from a rational standpoint. I do not trust virtual anything. However what I do know is you invest real money in fake money. You give them your real money for fake, untraceable stock in that virtual currency. If that sounds bad, it is. The only motivation for it is to hide money or wealth, or perform nefarious transactions. In a nutshell that is probably all I understand about it, and sufficient to have convinced me it is bad.
You know what, Rich? I, like you, feel this crypto stuff is bad. Many of my friends tell me when someone wants to be paid in crypto, it is not a good thing. I believe these tech guys have just come up with another way to fleece the public, and now, they want Congress to make it all legal and such! This entire regime and Congress are raking in the money while the rest of us are squeezing every nickel and dime just to get by!
Peggy, crypto is just one of the biggest frauds ever. Of course the SEC decided to let it be traded because they are on the "Take". Regulators get bribed to let corrupt financial organizations trade totally corrupt financial vehicles. Wall Street,CNBC,Goldman Sacks and many others have zero credibility and those of us who watch know it. Under Trump, there are no regulations,no guardrails, nothing to prevent widespread fraud by all the dishonest pigs who are totally dishonest.
David, that is the main reason I simply do not trust anything or anyone in this regime! They are all corrupt and dishonest! I don't watch their propaganda news and only go to sources that I know and trust.
Peggy,it really is a shame that this country has turned into a shithole. Can't trust the "Nazis" like Trump,Bessert.Miller, the "Technonazis" .Wall Street has become a sewer and has zero ethics. Seniors have to endure fraud every day,no one does anything about it. Nixon looks good compared to what we have now.

Totally with you on this one---from Sam Bankman-Fried's shameless purchase of several high ranking Democrats to Trump's coterie of Republican crypto-grifters there's little to no actual objective analysis of policy pros and cons going on with crypto. Almost entirely an unprincipled money grab.
I can write my senators, sure. But I would really like you to name those Democratic senators willing to vote for this pro-Crypto bill. Just saying some Democrats won't help us stop them. Name and shame works. I agree that the bill is rotten, and so are the politicians who support it.

Shame on Gallego and Alsobrooks. They are more uninformed than MAGA.
they are junior representatives, and they may owe their victories to the crypto lobby. Let them know what you think.
"In Gold we trust" should be stamped on the Trump dollar and printed on the 250-dollar notes. Crypto is Satins 666 money.

Turnip and his spawn are deeply embedded in crypto. Democrats who support CLARITY have forgotten that Turnip soils and spoils everything he touches.

My Norwegian father taught me the answer when I was about six years old. You divide each cookie into five pieces as equally as you can and share.

Crypto is good for money laundering and tax evasion, both of these are big markets. Naturally, the finance industry would love to get their cut.

The Supreme Court legalized bribery. So it's just one big feeding frenzy at the trough now.

Very true Urban.
But, at least one could eat the tulip bulbs. Even bitter they may be!
Cheers... GH
No crypto ever-it’s a dangerous game and anyone in it is foolish
The total deregulation of crypto is the ultimate dream of those who want to tear down the foundations of democratic nation states.
If they succeed, we will return to a technologically-enabled form of serfdom.
An exaggeration?
A central feature of the ancien regime in the 18th century was that the wealthy aristocratic ruling class didn't pay taxes.
Taxes were for the peasants, along with the additional burdens of feudal dues paid to the aristos, and tithes paid to the church.
Our new lords and masters will not relinquish a dime.
Because the only reason for holding on to more wealth than can possibly be spent in a thousand lifetimes is the power that it brings.
And power is an addiction that cannot be assuaged if it's left unchecked.
Guillotines are out of patent. Anyone can build one now without paying royalties or license fees. Which is going to make their widespread deployment just that much more satisfying.
We must tax them!
Yes, and this is why crypto leads to anarchy over the long run.

Believe it or not I had one contacting me in Australia to ask md the same. Unbelievf
I was advised to invest in crypto by a Reich imposter.

Absolutely agree! Crypto is only beneficial to the billionaires
I fear Crypto as much as I fear Fascism…or, is one just a facet of the other?
I'm extremely worried about crypto, Fascism, AND AI.
and for good reason. Everyone should. Unless you are a billionaire.
These names of bills 🤬
I’m renaming this:
NO MORAL Clarity ACT.
The Crypto is in Australia also. A true sad story which backs up what Robert Reich is saying.
One of my friends lost a lot of money when she sold her crypto shares because they lost their value not long after she bought into it.
Disturbing to hear this news.
