Neither the DNC nor the RNC has the kind of political freedom to be able to upend the existing system, because they are *part* of the existing system. Both parties have to struggle against the other as hard as they can or they will lose the country; neither can get ahead of the other, because any lead immediately turns into advantage for their opponent.
So in that sense the two parties ARE the same, in that they are both constrained by the system into aggressively securing their own power no matter what, no matter what they must sacrifice, because the alternative is WORSE. Remember that the Republican party *tried* to disavow Trump after Jan 6, but they couldn't resecure their own base, and so now they have no other choice than to support him or perish.
The 2-party system is equilibrium-finding, and always has been, and that's why we haven't managed the kind of political majority that would let us ratify a Constitutional Amendment in half a century. They have oil refineries in poor neighborhoods. They build LNG terminals in poor neighborhoods. They run dangerous chemical plants in poor neighborhoods, and so much more. They truly don't care. Even if they had to live in those places, they wouldn't get it that the air, water, and land pollution is dangerous because they think they can avoid it with their money, and maybe they can.

I keep coming back to the belief that every person possesses inherent dignity. When fear becomes part of everyday life, when people are afraid to go to work, take their children to school, seek medical care, worship, or simply exist in their community, we all lose something. The measure of a society is not only how it exercises power, but whether it does so without losing its humanity.
History reminds us that the erosion of our shared humanity rarely happens all at once. It happens gradually, as fear becomes normalized and we stop seeing one another as human beings first. I don't believe this is who we are.

I was on Okinawa 1967-68 (the first Women Marines had just deployed to 'Nam and I was sort of unhappy I wasn't stationed in Saigon), but I was in only the second group of Women Marines EVER posted overseas. I was at Futema, and when the carriers came back from down South, the helos would come to the field, many shot full of holes.

Elizabeth, I understand your frustration! There is more to it, though. Neither the DNC nor the RNC has the kind of political freedom to be able to upend the existing system, because they are *part* of the existing system. Both parties have to struggle against the other as hard as they can or they will lose the country; neither can get ahead of the other, because any lead immediately turns into advantage for their opponent.
So in that sense the two parties ARE the same, in that they are both constrained by the system into aggressively securing their own power no matter what, no matter what they must sacrifice, because the alternative is WORSE. Remember that the Republican party *tried* to disavow Trump after Jan 6, but they couldn't resecure their own base, and so now they have no other choice than to support him or perish.
The 2-party system is equilibrium-finding, and always has been, and that's why we haven't managed the kind of political majority that would let us ratify a Constitutional Amendment in half a century. If we allow ourselves to continue to be divided this way, we will never escape, and neither will our descendants—it will never get EASIER to unite us than it is now, in July 2026.

Johan, the challenge is that when one has money, one gains power, not because they deserve it, but because people think money is powerful and one who has it must be something great. It is rarely true, but the myths about wealth are rampant.
Those monied people do a lot of things that harm a lot of people, but often it is people they think no one cares about. They build data centers in poor neighborhoods (until recently). They have oil refineries in poor neighborhoods. They build LNG terminals in poor neighborhoods. They run dangerous chemical plants in poor neighborhoods, and so much more. They truly don't care. Even if they had to live in those places, they wouldn't get it that the air, water, and land pollution is dangerous because they think they can avoid it with their money, and maybe they can.
If those Trumplicans were to be held accountable for their criminal activity and send to one of the concentration camp prisons, they would get all kinds of special treatment because they could easily be noticed; they are white and male.
I don't know how to get them to understand anything but that they now have power and can harm whoever they choose and never be held accountable. Those folks, the ones recruited by Trumplandia are not likely to learn anything positive because they don't have to and their bosses are going to make sure they don't have to, ever!

I keep coming back to the belief that every person possesses inherent dignity. When fear becomes part of everyday life, when people are afraid to go to work, take their children to school, seek medical care, worship, or simply exist in their community, we all lose something. The measure of a society is not only how it exercises power, but whether it does so without losing its humanity.
History reminds us that the erosion of our shared humanity rarely happens all at once. It happens gradually, as fear becomes normalized and we stop seeing one another as human beings first. I don't believe this is who we are.

Thanks for backing up your statements with sources. That's really depressing; I don't vote for people who call me a loser or sucker. But then in addition to being a vet I'm also a liberal, Democrat, and a woman, so DT craps on me in four different areas of my life.
I was on Okinawa 1967-68 (the first Women Marines had just deployed to 'Nam and I was sort of unhappy I wasn't stationed in Saigon), but I was in only the second group of Women Marines EVER posted overseas. I was at Futema, and when the carriers came back from down South, the helos would come to the field, many shot full of holes.
A stupid, useless, despicable proxy war. I was lucky and didn't lose anyone but an officer I respected was paralyzed by his injuries.
I went to a few Navy League meetings, but women really aren't welcome in the boys' club (or weren't in the 1980s; it's probably different now) but I have never felt like hanging around the Legion or the VFW. I have a total of 24 years' service, active and reserve, and I treasure the memories and yes, I LOVE the Marine Corps. But unlike too many vets, I don't make it my whole personality.

ICE is refining its methods and trying to avoid past mistakes. This makes them even more dangerous and their actions even more unpredictable. They won’t make the mistake of arresting celebrities, as much as they’d like to.
The goal hasn’t changed: to suppress all opposition. It’s time to mobilize alternative media against the fascist regime. Where the Patriot Front is allowed to march, a Freedom Front can march too. The streets belong to the people. Use them!

Every citizen is protected by habeus corpus, which means you have the right to lawyer representation and protection. Trump and Miller have created an uncontrolled and harassing goon squad reminiscent of Hitler’s brown shirts goon squad. Vote for Democrats in the midterms, so we can take back the House and Senate and begin to clean up Trump’s mess!

Trump and his team make Herbert Hoover look good, and he does not hold a candle to Roosevelt. I do hope Trump pays for his crimes against humanity, along with Netanyahu. The economy, already stretched thin by speculation, AI, investment driven capitalism lacking ethics, and broligarchs flocking to world cup soccer games with equally corrupt FIFA leadership, will break under this extremist expansion of ICE activity combined with a foolish, stupid, and debased war with Iran.

We need to get loud with our protests! Call it out! Call your politicians in Congress! Just because they have decided to go quiet does not mean they are not still causing harm! They are taking citizens that are here legally! This has got to stop!

Robert please remember to point out the polls and of which there are many, that the highest numbers of continued Republican voter support for the orange blob is always and has been consistently on how he is dealing with immigration. Until that changes we will not take Republican seats, especially in the senate.

What they do in the polling booth, or on their mail-in ballot, is private.
