The fact is, if the Republicans were so worried about reducing the deficit, they wouldn't keep passing tax cuts funded by fairy tales. They always cut taxes (twice under Reagan, twice under Bush, again under Trump), don't reduce spending on the programs they vilify but their base enjoys and then count on the very thing they mocked President Obama about for budgets to balance: hope.

If the gentleman from California and his allies are so worried about debt and deficits, they would use basic math, pass tax rates and spending when they control the houses that balances and not have to borrow and drive up debts when their fictional trickle-down funding never materializes. They ran up the debt spectacularly, so now Speaker McCarthy has to agree to sign the check for the credit card bill he and his went crazy running up. I'm so sick of seeing these hacks claim to be spending hawks: neither Reagan, Bush 43 nor Trump ever offered or achieved a balanced budget.

As for news media, it's amazing to see the pretzel logic and backward bending to provide false equivalency for Republicans incapable of doing basic math. They created woefully imbalanced budgets and now hold the nation hostage over paying the debts they ran up.
