I grew up in a fairly wealthy all-white suburb and hated it. Now I’m on a fixed income, live in a rent-controlled apartment in a not so wealthy but diverse community and I’m much more comfortable. But “progress” is happening to our town in the form of expensive high-rises and skyscrapers that have all-inclusive amenities. The not-so-rich are not getting any amenities and it’s creating an economic divide in a once cohesive community. Why are the not-so-rich treated like lepers? We don’t have cooties you know.
