Minitalker, you have to admire Liz Cheney for taking on her entire party with the truth we agree with. That doesn’t mean we have to vote for even one Republican ever.
We should not make her a heroine for finally doing the job she gets paid to do and did not do when she likely knew what others were planning! This need to prove bipartisanship (that can't exist with the Party that took part in the insurrection) will come back to haunt when she runs on the "new" Republican ticket. Just let her do the job and stop centering on how great it is that she finally stood for something good, even if to her advantage.
How about this much outpouring for those who lost their careers and reputations because Liz playing ball with the agenda she still supports?
When the campaigns start, Dems will find difficulty convincing a public that isn't known for its daily reading, that Liz's political stands are as horrific as they really are. They will find it difficult because of the current false equivocation of her differing from her Party on this basic of our democracy AFTER the coupe failed. (You don't see her appalled at what states or SCOTUS are doing to democracy and our Constitution, though.)
People are so tired of the same old same old. Let us enjoy every little ray of hope and this amazing effort from across the aisle from the daughter of a very powerful former Vice President, who is entrenched in the GOP, and now fights for Democracy and wants to get to the truth. We need all the help we can get!
"People"? "little rays of hope?" What do you call all those who have continued to speak up to power while Liz Cheney just sits on a Committee that could also be her way out of investigations? What do you call all those who lost careers and reputations to speak out while LIz Cheney, whose views have not changed, was part of the lies about which they spoke? This nation must stop whining about "SOSO" because today's Republican Party is NOT "same old same old". Whining is lazy for not having read what should be calls to action from reputable reporters around the globe.
Take a break. Chill out and have fun. Do you know how? Lots of people have had a lot of suffering in political careers and lost reputations when in the sights of tyrannical 'leaders'. What is your purpose, minitalker? are you a Russian bot? You are a downer IMO. Lighten up!
False equivocation only ignores what needs repaired. We are losing a battle with ignorance to which catering is endangering the education of new voters. Liz Cheney should receive encouragement for stepping up on this singular basic of democracy, but speaking against something one's Party has done at this point must be realized for what it is: Liz Cheney finally stepping up, but still holding the views that brought January 6. Trump was the figurehead for an agenda of hate that is being now carried forward in the states and with every lie that Republicans put forth. False equivocation in reporting gives the impression that fact-lies lies are opinions of equal worth to fact-based logical opinions.
When that happens, the truth becomes whatever you want to believe, not what is actually transpiring.
False equivocation is something I have written about in this forum. I do not think it is a topic that is relevant to this cartoon contest. Yes, people are saying good things about Liz Cheney, after getting Trumped by the Republicans for a long time in a very frustrating way with a lot of foul play. We are having a very challenging time with Democracy. But we need an occasional laugh. There are those in league with Vladimir Putin who slaughters people everywhere his troops go. Those on the other side of the aisle like him and other autocrats. there are gun laws that need to change so people can be safe etc etc. Lots of problems. Nobody in this forum is equating this tyranny with good. We are astounded that Liz Cheney, a member of the Republican party has been on the committee to investigate the Sedition of Jan 6th. The other side wanted to stop said inquiry, period. Nobody here has any illusions that there is an equivocation of sides. Indeed, we can hardly believe it.
If we ever hope to move our country in a progressive direction and find our way out of the Trumpian nightmare we are currently living through, we need to reward the heck out of ANY behaviors from ANY Republican that shows ANY sign of helping that cause!!! (Otherwise we will be indiscriminately punishing good behavior along with the bad which will get us exactly nowhere!")
I agree that we shouldn't make heroines out of politicians who are just doing their job. On the other hand, I support bipartisanship, depending on what form it takes. For example, a bipartisan coalition of Congresspersons who oppose US militarism would be very constructive. They don't have to agree with each other on every issue.
It is not false. Liz Cheney is going up against a party in lockstep that brooks no 'misbehavior' or straying from the party line, She has already been demoted and will be attacked more than ever for the role she is playing now. She is certainly doing her job now.
We shall find it difficult during campaigns to educate about what Liz Cheney stands for, because of this false equivocating now.
She is simply finally doing what is right, and her reason for doing so is either what used to be presumed (a belief in democracy) or a realization that being on the Committee is to her advantage, given her likely knowledge of what her colleagues were doing that she didn't report.
False equivocation is a major concern as networks give equal time to opinions with no merit as to fact-based reporting. I hate seeing this same false equivocation applied to elevating Liz Cheney to give credence to the Jan 6 Investigation Committee.
Minitalker ; At this point there is no equivocating. People are amazed that a Republican, at a great personal risk, is speaking the truth and heading an investigation that her whole party in lockstep wanted to block and would end in a millisecond! You would seek to silence any good words for her? Where is the virtue in that? If she is a phony, time will tell, but it sure does not look that way.
She has shown more courage & been more forceful than just about any Democrat since the Insurrection. This has been at great short-term cost to her, although it is likely to prove to be fruitful in the long run, for her legacy & place in the history books, if not for her career.
Can't we have a little fun? tired of downers. I have my own doubts about a lot of things. Most of us are paying attention. Time will give answers. It's a freaking cartoon contest! Can you be funny? Try it, you might like it
oh stop with the accusations of being "downers" when replying responsibly and facing reality (the only way to change it). Most people are not paying enough attention, per the results of 2020 and the changes that are occurring under the guise of morality and religion today. It is important to speak out, because "having a little fun" depends on our way of life, our freedom.
This is an attempt to come up with a caption that captures the essence of ideas we have about the investigation of what happened on Jan 6 attack. Reality is something we face every day. We are very serious about the challenges of an attack on Democracy. It is novel to have someone who was placed in the upper power structure of Republicans, to be important in the process of discovery. I am sorry that you don't get what we are doing here. Our way of life could change drastically if Democracy is lost. This is a way to cope and share ideas and maybe a little humor and hope. Too bad you don't get it.
Look—up in the sky: it’s a bird. It’s a plane! No—it’s much rarer. It’s a member of Congress who lives up to the oath to “preserve, defend and protect the Constitution of the United States.” Who knew there were any of them remaining? Especially among the republicans.
good one, but that is ALL she has done for the nation. Don't martyr her for (finally) doing her job, just to give impression of bipartisanship - which should not be expected given that Republican Senators (not Liz? really?) met to get this coupe underway before January 6 (and Liz said nothing? )
Yes, she sure has told some whoppers during the Administration (not to mention saying openly she had wanted ANTIFA investigated for insurrection too)....maybe she has x-ray vision to see the light post-coupe? She wasn't going to move ahead if Trump succeeded.
if we forget everything she did to ensure it happened and ignore that those with whom she agreed except for 2nd impeachment (but not removal) were copied on memos and meetings about intentions -- oh, could it be this makes her less vulnerable to investigation?
then you haven't been paying attention. BTW, it is to her advantage as much as anyone's to support the investigation (about which her colleagues likely included her beforehand and she did not report) after the coupe failed.
Yes, I have been paying attention. She may have been at first for her Republican colleagues, but to me, she has since redeemed herself, and is on the side of the Constitution. I am for anyone who is for our Constitution, first, and the people and their party, second. I commend Cheney's courage and strength for the Constitution. Our lawmakers have forgotten about their oath to our country. May God forgive us for our greed and thoughtlessness.
Every Democrat has shown they are on the side of the Constitution; ie, her joining the Committee against a failed coupe are not redemption for her loyalty (still) to a hate agenda. She remains a far right Republican, despite joining to investigate an insurrection.
The idea that she is a heroine for doing what is presumed of our representatives, who take an oath, is dangerous and the reason she must not be elevated to heroine - despite that it shows some independence and bipartisanship (also used to be presumed of our representatives).
Also, to be on the side of our Constitution takes more than simply investigating an insurrection. Our Constitution stands for equality among citizenry, respect for all and concern for all -- not Liz's strong points. This is exactly why I don't like to see even cartoons equivocating her joining this investigation with being anything special as a Senator.
I have to disagree with you about Cheney. She and Kinsinger are the only Republicans that spoke out against Trump. I know there are other Republicans that are not for Trump, but they continued following him. So, I commend those 2 for following there hearts and the Constitution. I don't like how far right the Republicans have gone, and that they have become so entrapped with themselves. They can not think of or care about anyone else, but themselves. I hear and feel your anger. I, too, have thought and felt angry at the Republicans. But seeing and hearing what Cheney had done, really put her reputation in peril. It doesn't sound like much, but she still could lose her Senate seat. She is one of the old Republicans who holds the Constitution to a higher degree. She is Dick Cheney's daughter. I believe she was raised with moral values beholding to the Constitution. They are hard to find, now. I am and always will be a Democrat, but I will try to find the good in those who deserve it.
You have a right to your opinion, although I don't hear any reason for believing that Liz Cheney is as you perceive her. I am not angry; I fear for those who are the targets of women like her while even Democrats want normalcy so bad that they are ignoring much to "find the good" even in those who don't deserve it and whose usual actions are not good.
Of-course Liz Cheney is right to stand up against insurrection, which I too give credence - but will not equivocate that alone with being more than it is. The facts are 1) that she rationalizes her stereotypical views of "others" and voted with Trump on many harmful changes in the courts, for example 2) that she was still party to Republican meetings and likely memos regarding the plans to overturn the election and said nothing, and 3)and that she is being elevated for doing simply what every Democrat is STILL doing and what should be presumed as baseline for everyone in Congress who takes the Oath. And she is doing it AFTER the insurrection including fellow Republicans -- Republicans who held meetings and circulated notes attempting to find a way to overturn an election, which she never reported. (What better place to be than on the Committee investigating these things!)
New generations of voters are growing up between Administrations and 4 new generations vote each Presidential election. It is important to remember how our national focus has changed over the past 6 years. It is important to realize how little is required to become a Republican hero, while media treats Democratic disagreements as equal news to the crimes we witness among Republicans.
It is important to remember the Liz Cheney positions, so that a simple baseline responsibility to stand (afterward) against a (failed) coupe doesn't gain her the Presidency she has never hid she wants.
All of this is my motivation is taking time to speak out.
Liz claims support for LGBTQ+, but her votes show otherwise (not unlike other Republicans) and she voted against the Equal Rights Act. She holds the same racial stereotypes that are taking us backwards in policing. Although she claims she wants to keep guns out of the hands of the "wrong" people, she stands with the NRA in right to hold assault weapons. She called for investigations of peaceful protestors, especially the falsely-accused ANTIFA, which has never been shown to cause violence, but rather is a belief in defense from the violence of groups like the Patriots, Proud Boys, KKK, and the Nazis she voted with all through the Trump Administration.
She did vote for the impeachment the SECOND time, but did NOT vote to remove Trump.
If you are a Democrat, you should be concerned about Liz Cheney and should already know that Dick Cheney was a far-right hawk too, lying with impunity about Sadam Hussein. He was a man with a controversial entry into politics, much like many of Trump's people. (The Bush Administration used to be a concern for Americans until Trump made even Bush look better.)
These are important things to remember while the nation is focused on terrorism, the extremism that without reminder surpasses what used to be normal issues of concern in this nation and the cornerstones of our nation's development.
Democrats who elevate Liz Cheney's joining to investigate the terrorists from Jan 6 (although initially insisting she wanted to see ANTIFA simultaneously investigated despite any reason) will have difficulty reminding the nation of the real Liz Cheney in 2024 if she is elevated today simply for this basic presumptive duty. A simply recognition that 2 Republicans joined all Democrats to investigate the insurrection should be enough.
You are welcome to your own opinions, also. I am in agreement with most of what you say. I, also, understand all Republicans do lean towards the right even from a moderate stance. Whether she decides to run in 2024, I could care less. For what she and Kinsinger have done on the committee is out of the ordinary for Republicans. Their party didn't want them even to be a part of it. I am very glad and grateful that they did. The committee needed to be bipartisan to proceed, mainly so that it looked like it was fair. The Republicans would have complained about it being unfair and a "witch hunt". Lol, all the Republicans do is complain about the Dems. The Democrats need to really do more to vocalize what the Republicans have not done for the people and the country. It's been very nice talking with you. I wish you well and stay safe.
Three things that scare modern republicans. Someone with a spine, a conscience and the truth.
Please don't martyr her unless you want the same agenda wrapped in a more cunning package
Minitalker, you have to admire Liz Cheney for taking on her entire party with the truth we agree with. That doesn’t mean we have to vote for even one Republican ever.

Sounds Nazi all right.
TRUTH--what a Concept!! And worth fighting for!

Donna Apter ; I agree absolutely!
Yes, I support bipartisanship, too. It should be presumed, though, when it happens -- not this false equivocation as if heroic.

We are a nation that has NORMALIZED CONGRESSIONAL BRIBERY and have accepted it as a proper way to govern.
True dat! I hope the insurrectionists in that cartoon are not sleeping well!

THAT is how to Make America Great Again!

Now that's the difference between a patriot and an insurrectionist.
So - Wonder Woman is real after all!
Now there's an endangered species, a Republican with a spine to live up to her oath of office.
