Policy won’t solve a behavioral problem.

The proposals: disarm ICE, remove immunity, restrict targeting; assume we’re dealing with an enforcement agency that’s gone off the rails. We’re not. We’re dealing with exactly what I described in my piece on America’s security apparatus: a force deliberately designed to dehumanize, selected for cruelty, and rewarded for brutality.

ICE is recruiting gun enthusiasts, UFC fans, and tactical gear shoppers for their “sacred duty” to repel “foreign invaders.” That’s not law enforcement language. That’s tribal warfare framing.

You’re giving angry, under-trained people guns, immunity, and permission to unleash violence on civilians they’ve been trained to see as animals. That’s Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment scaled to a national agency. That’s Milgram’s obedience studies deployed as immigration policy.

Reich’s right that they want violent confrontations to justify the Insurrection Act. But the deeper truth is the incentive structure guarantees those confrontations. When you reward agents for aggression and tell them civilians are “invaders,” shooting Renee Good isn’t a breakdown…it’s the system functioning exactly as designed.

Call your representatives. Demand the policy changes Reich outlines. But understand what you’re fighting: not a rogue agency, but an apparatus that’s become what it was built to become once someone removed the last pretense of restraint.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Call and write your reps - house and senate!!!!!

Demand they legislate and pass HR1470 - ending qualified immunity act and S492 Ending qualified immunity act ... Under consideration S122 codify the defense of qualified immunity is just plain nuts.

Is it too much to ask that officers be limited to operate within the clearly defined boundaries of the constitution? that they should never violate peoples rights afforded under the constitution? In my opinion, the law enforcement folks are plainly saying that they need to have qualified immunity in order to be able to do their well-paying jobs, they are admitting they are so incompetent to do their jobs under the limitations of the constitution, too inept to be able to understand the clear language of the constitution.

Don't you think law enforcement operating under the color of law ought to be able to understand the clear language of the constitution? That they should require the crutch of some special Privileges or Immunities outlines an incompetence and not a competence.

Calling and writing are certainly things that people living far away from ICE atrocities can do, but there are limits. For instance, me. I live in Ohio and my congresscritter is Jim Jordan. Making humanitarian pleas to him or either of my senators is an exercise in futility.

Bob - I’m also in Ohio and I have the same problem with my representative and senators as well. I know that I won’t get a reply back from any of them but it does seem to make me feel like I have at least done something. If I can irritate the aides who have to read emails then at least they feel the irritation that I feel even if it is in a different way. Currently I’m excited about Acton/Pepper and Sherrod Brown and will do what I can (I’m physically and financially limited but I try to find other ways to help) to get them elected. Even thinking that we will end up with ramaswamy turns my stomach and makes me want to fight for decent representation. The deputy director of ICE just stepped down to run for the 9th District so she must be stopped too but we will see if we have elections. I believe she is trying to run because Ramaswamy just took the man who was the biggest threat to Kaptur and made him his running mate. Kaptur’s last couple of races were very close and at 79 she should have at least considered letting someone else run but it’s not my district so we will see what happens after the primaries narrow down the candidates.

Thomas Dority, thank you for the references to the legislation. This is helpful when calling senators and representatives. Also, I think we should encourage our lawmakers not to vote more funding for ICE agents or ICE anything. We need to have that group melted down.

Thomas - Yes, everyone should be following the letter of the law but there’s a difference between law enforcement and federal agents. Currently it’s the federal agents who are coloring outside the law/lines. Let’s not forget that the agent who just committed murder was not a new recruit but he was a seasoned agent and firearms instructor who should know better. There’s no statute of limitations on murder so even if this administration doesn’t want to do a proper investigation hopefully the next president (or an experienced head of DHS) will ask for one. The agent who shot the man in the leg claimed “to fear for his life” but the main question is why was he all alone during the chase? If you are in an unmarked car, by yourself and with no identification on (other than what anyone can buy online) and you are chasing me I would fight or flight too.

Solving the behavioral problem and stopping the cruel destruction force destroying America requires enforcement of the law against insurrection.

The Gestapo includes the 30 million who still support Trump. Here is what can be done in 90 days to stop Trump, the Republican party, Republicans in Congress, and justices on the Supreme Court who are engaged in an ongoing insurrection that includes ICE and violates federal law (18 U.S. Code § 2383). Democrats should adopt an ACTION PLAN WITH LEGAL FORCE that begins with enacting and enforcing a new state law modeled after the federal law in 7 states that have Democrats in control of state government. California could be the first state to enact and enforce the law within 90 days which would remove the 9 Republicans representatives from California in the Congressional House. The House would then have a Democratic majority in 2026 with Jefferies as Speaker of the House to stop the Big Beautiful Bill and make sure Ukraine and Medicaid are fully funded and there will be no tax cuts for the rich. The PLAN is described in the following paragraphs with actions that will remove four conservative justices from the Supreme Court.

According to the federal law on insurrection (18 U.S. Code § 2383), a felony crime is committed by “whoever assists or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof or gives aid or comfort thereto shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the united states”.

The insurrection began on January 6, 2021, and was planned in PROJECT 2025 to continue in 2025 and forever as a lawless, fascist autocracy.

All people who voted for Trump in the 2024 election commited illegal violations of federal law (18 U.S. Code § 2383) because the votes were support of the insurrection and in violation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment which the Supreme Court illegally refused to enforce that would have blocked Trump from being on the ballot in 2024.

STEP 1 – Enact a new state law authorized by the 10th Amendment on insurrection modeled after the federal law on insurrection, 18 U.S. Code § 2383, in 15 states in 2026 so that Democrats would have a large majority in control of the House of Representatives before the midterm elections. The 15 states which have Democrats in control of state government with Democrats as governor, attorney general and a Democratic majority in the state House and state Senate. The 15 states are Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Illinois, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Maine.

The new state law would define a felony crime and penalties for whoever is a resident of the state and has assisted, or engaged in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof or has given aid or comfort thereto by being a registered voting member of a political party that (1) had supported the election of an insurrectionist to the presidency and (2) remained a member of the political party after the insurrectionist was elected president and engaged in leading the executive branch to violate the Constitution of the United States and the laws thereof. The new state law would also define a violator of the law as being incapable of voting in any future election in the state or holding office as a representative of the state in Congress or holding any office under the state.

STEP 2 - In 2026, following the enactment of the new state law on insurrection in 7 of the 15 states, the new state law should be enforced. Governors and attorney generals in those states should order the arrest of residents of the state who are holding office as Republican representatives of the state in Congress or holding office as Republicans in state legislature as suspected violators of the new state law, immediately remove them from office, to be indicted, prosecuted in state court, and imprisoned following conviction. The change in the number of representatives in Congress should immediately create a new large Democratic majority in the House and reduce the small Republican majority in the Senate. The 7 states are California which could remove their 9 Republican representatives in the House, Colorado has 4, Illinois has 3, Maryland has 1, New Jersey has 3, New York has 7, and Oregon has 1 for a total of 28. Maine has one Republican senator in the Senate who could be removed.

The Constitution in Article I, Section 6, Clause 1 allows members of Congress to be arrested, indicted, and convicted for felony crimes that violate federal, or state law and the law can be enforced even when the law has penalties of imprisonment up to ten years with mandatory permanent removal and prevention from holding office.

STEP 3 - In 2026, following the enactment of the new state law on insurrection in the three states of Maryland, New Jersey and Colorado, the new state law should be enforced by governors and attorney generals in those states who should order the arrest of the four suspected violators of the new state law who are residents of those states and justices in the Supreme Court. Roberts & Kavanaugh are residents of Maryland, Gorsuch is a resident of Colorado, Alito is a resident of New Jersey. After arrest and confinement in the state, the attorney general removes any criminal felons from the Supreme Court to prosecute them in state courts and imprison them following convictions for up to ten years. After those three states remove the four conservative justices from the Court, the Court would change from 6 conservatives and 3 liberals to 2 conservatives and 3 liberals with four vacancies. The Supreme Court would not be able to function and hear cases with the reduced number of justices. Trump will try to replace the justices, but that attempt should be challenged in federal and state courts and would be blocked until Democrats win the presidency in 2028.

The Constitution does not establish judicial immunity for any judge including federal judges or Supreme Court Justices. The doctrine of judicial immunity is not a law, but a principle that protects judges from civil liability for actions taken within their jurisdiction. However, the doctrine does not provide protection against criminal prosecutions, as the Supreme Court explained in O’Shea v. Littleton and then reaffirmed in Imbler v. Pachtman and Dennis v. Sparks. Therefore, Supreme Court Justices can be arrested, indicted, and convicted for felony crimes that violate federal or state law and the law can be enforced even when the law has penalties of imprisonment up to ten years with mandatory permanent removal and prevention from holding office.

STEP 4 – In 2026, enforcement of the new law in those blue states would take all voting rights away from the Gestapo who violated the law and are registered members of the Republican party. The law states that the felony crime includes whoever is a resident of the state and remained a member of the political party after the insurrectionist was elected president and engaged in leading the executive branch to violate the Constitution of the United States and the laws thereof. The law states whoever is a resident of the state and a violator of the law is incapable of voting in any future election in the state or holding office as a representative of the state in Congress or holding any office under the state.

Can’t R states just do the opposite?

There are 18 R states where Rs have less than 100% of seats; there are just 9 such D states. Didn’t tally the seats themselves, but since each state is sovereign, not sure this is a reliable approach?

William, I believe we need to use psychology, not reason or policy. Trump is a malignant narcissist who wants suffering of all people. He thrives on it. We must use his personality disorder against him and MOCK him. If thousands in MN carried Epstein signs and wore costumes mocking Trump, ICE would be gone in hours. He could not handle the humiliation. And if every city, every politician, every reporter followed suit... eventually he would self implode. This is basic human psychology. His followers are victims of narcissism and show the classic behavioral signs as well. We must fight smarter, not harder, and stop giving him what he wants or this country will become the hell hole he so craves.

Yes, he wants the fight. He wants mass suffering in every form possible, as that's what narcissists crave. How do you win against a narcissist.... with humiliation. The protestors need to MOCK Trump. ISOequanimity - I joined law enforcement out of accident. I was encouraged to go on a ride along with someone I looked up to. I was in two of the categories of not being able to afford college (let alone knowing what I wanted to do with my life) and I wanted to serve my community. Most police officers do not go to work wishing to use their service weapons. It’s actually a badge of pride to be able to retire without ever firing off a shot. I failed at that but it was only when the other person decided to use their weapon first. Sure, there are some bad cops but I think there are more good cops out there just trying to make a difference. The message from this administration to the agents is wrong and hopefully they will face the consequences after this administration is gone depending on statute of limitations for their crimes committed against the people.

But never forget they are not doing God’s work. They are doing a convicted felon’s work.

They haven’t a chance to do much criminal work unless we stand aside.

They have reason to fear. Increasingly these green ICE recruits are beginning to realize they are in the wrong; many are beginning to digest the fact that a state ‘assault with a deadly weapon’ conviction can ruin your whole day.

Mark, I agree with you and Dr. Reich that we citizens must use every legal means of resistance that we can, as we protect ourselves from physical harm by employing restraint. As regards contacting our elected officials in the US House and Senate, I would not waste my time with the likes of Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) or with any of my Republican House members here since they all boarded the clown car to nowhere long ago. Johnson is the one whose office attempted to present the slate of fake electors from Wisconsin to Mike Pence's staff member at the US Capitol on Jan 6th, 2021. Then like Judas, he denied it 3, 4, 5 times. His office has accepted the most violent and libelous political advertising ever seen from dark money in opposition to the "Marxist far-left fanatics" on the other side. Call or write your democracy-minded Congresspersons to insist that they vote to defang the trump gestapo before it ignites a shooting war. That's what he wants.

Please take great pains to avoid giving them any pretext. But video, take & share hi-res photos of faces/eyes, full bodies, gait, voice, attire, vehicles. Post & share them with local authorities.

In a surveillance nation such as we have become, criminals will not be able to maintain anonymity from the people in their communities who know them in daily life - and who know they are the sort of troubled souls who need ICE for one reason or another.

If your son or daughter were wearing a gaiter you would still easily recognize him. So would your neighbor.

So: audio, video, sharp high-res photos, legal or peaceful resistance.

Tom, the effects of a minimally regulated friction-free information commerce highway on the US is but another case of first-movers' wind-fall riches destroying a nation, in a long history of such cases.

As with other ‘resource-cursed’ or petrodollar-dictatorship nations, in the US this informatics resource was inadequately regulated and resulted in immense wealth and power consolidation - power that has been extracted and kept from the many who generate that wealth.

There are no constructive incentives for anyone in this power tower ‘governance’ model.

As went Venezuela (and so many others), so goes every nation which fails to sufficiently fairly regulate the distribution of a sudden narrow influx of toxic power, and fails to nip 'absolute corruption' in the bud.

This is the Work of Governance.

The necessity of assuring a basic living - food, shelter, clothing, education, and healthcare is often expressed in moral terms. But, it is in fact a pragmatic necessity for national prosperity as well. Not from fear of revolt, but need for max productivity.

But yet more critical than raising the base, is the necessity of preventing the consolidation of sufficient wealth among some few 'at the top' that might enable them (singly or in concert), to challenge the legitimate 'restraining of powers' work of governments and rule of law.

The best future lies in the fertile belly of the bell curve, not at the extremes.

US‘s fatal flaw was to deregulate greed. This is a deal with a devil. We had nearly succumbed to that siren song several times before, this time it will be very close.

That's a great question, Tom. For one thing, the citizens of your European country as a people have a historical memory of the extreme damage inflicted upon them by the Nazi regime, the most rabid fanatics of the world. The participants in the World Wars, such as my family members by direct experience and yours have a comprehension of suffering through pure evil to this degree. Yes, in the US a relatable degree of suffering has been inflicted upon citizens and non-citizens alike, but not on the scale of destruction in a global war. For another thing, many of the 40% or so of our citizens who adamantly support this corrupt "regime" have accepted that hatred of non-white races and other people, will bring to them their twisted version of salvation. They have come to accept the increasingly vapid lies of the "regime's" perpetrators as Gospel, and with our corrupt Supreme Court there is little chance of distinguishing the libel from the "freedom of speech" guaranteed by our First Amendment.

Trump's new America--

I grew up in a country that was respected above all others, and our compassion for the well being of those in need was second to none. In the event of a natural disaster, we were the first ones on scene to give aid to those in distress. During the last 60 years USAID has helped over 3 billion people. This country supplied some 53 million people with food on a regular basis, until Trump dismantled the agency. Today, in only a year's time, our President has managed to abandon all those hungry mouths, who relied upon our generosity for their very survival. Basically, as Trump puts it, because they lived in a "shit hole country." Trump has reduced our world standing to one viewed with distrust and fear. The entire free world is shocked by the thought of how could the American people allow this moron to reach the level of insanity he currently holds. His is a trash heap, and the heat of the sun is causing his stench to meander aimlessly across this country. His usefulness has reached an all time low, as if it had any relevance in the first place. History will paint Mr. Trump as a historical embarrassment to humanity in general.

The election was likely rigged by Elon Musk and some of Trump's other lapdogs. The 1.5 million margin for Trump in a total of 150 million votes is very slim and was probably rigged somehow.

ICE agents have a job to do, which entails the removal of "known" criminals' with records from our midst. Trump has repeatedly stated that ICE members are after the removal of illegal immigrants who are rapists, murderers, and thieves. I can understand this perspective. However, the act of entering this country by foot is considered a misdemeanor, I'll concede it is of a federal nature but still not a crime which would qualify any individuals for deportation. A speeding ticket given by a traffic cop would basically be considered an equal offense. ICE must know who they are after prior to their entering a city. They can't detain strictly by physical appearance, and this bull crap about having to show "Papers," this isn't a fascist state where that would be necessary. There can be no entering of dwellings without an official warrant, the laws of this country can't be ignored so as to pacify the needs of Noem's misguided goon squad. Trump is taking a dump with the toilet seat in the down position, and we wonder why this whole thing reeks.

• seriously injured

• imminently threatened with injury

• in need of emergency assistance

Not a stretch at all. 100,000 years ago the coastal communities that the original natives occupied are all under water that was locked up in ice caps that have since melted. 40,000 years ago San Francisco Bay was a wooded canyon and the Pacific Coast was 20 miles offshore where the Farrallon Islands are today. The historical record of our earliest natives is lost under the ocean. This condition is more extreme for the Atlantic Coast as it is more shallow and gradual in decent and has more land area under water.

Here is the direct path to end the #ICEoverreachRampage. We need to #FlipTheHouseEarly AS IN THIS MONTH. Just get three House Republicans who are already too underwater to retain their seats as Republicans to choose to declare as independent NOW and rise as true American heroes by caucusing with Democrats to end this madness before more harm is done.

This is the #ImmediateFlipMovement and DNC Chair Ken Martin can make this option far more appealing if he vows not to back or fund any Dem against these new independents as long as they remain caucusing with Dems into 2027.

It's a great deal for both sides. Martin gets the gavel, they get job security and a lead role in GOP 2.0 - what will rise from the ashes after a GOP implosion.

That strategy is Part 1 of what I call #ProjectCarrot. There are other phases after Dems take pawer, including passing #ForThePeopleAct2, fortified with new restrictions not in the first version, H.R. 1 in 2021, to counter all the new GOP and Trumpian tricks for election theft.

Included in that will be a mandate for public not private campaign funding, good news for new allies that fear what billionaire blowback could mean to their reelection in Nov.

Once the flip is confirmed, the #BlueHouse can do more than just start to impeach Kristi Noem. They can use investigations across multiple committees to clamp down on all the unconstitutional processes within every aspect of ICE extraction, detention, and confinement. They can use former inspectors general to define what should be the limiting guidelines, and for every transgression throughout the hierarchy of the ICE infrastructure there will be a subpoena.

The House can form a committee to review every single abuse of these rules, and require documentation including identities on every single abuse in the field.

Every current ICE agent must know that their lives will be changed forever for the travesties they've done. It's just a matter of how long it takes for their number to come up for when they must face the music.

My hope is that other investigations across the board yield our first #DoubleImpeachment leading to the promotion directly to the Oval Office of Speaker Jamie Raskin. Isn't that just what our nation deserves after all we've been through?

I ask that you please address these possibilities in future posts, perhaps after visiting this link to my Substack to get the full picture that I'm trying to present.

It includes scripts for those that want to speak directly to the offices of potential defectors. And doing that effectively will not be easy, because anger and frustration cannot be present. This is not a decision that you can guilt a politician into. This has to be introduced as a net positive option, both for the nation and for a candidate’s political future - when they emerge eventually as a celebrated hero.

Yes, rage is clearly justifiable. But how useful is it when we're talking to the staff of a potential defector? Is it possible that they might hear this and see that this is the best way to keep THEIR job?

Or maybe they are young and idealistic, with most of their life ahead, and see that this is not the America that they want to raise future children in.

What if we were somehow to convince someone that the targeted politician has empathy for and will listen to? What if said politician sees in their eyes that spark, that opportunity to rise and do the right thing which will yield a sigh of relief shared by 7 billion people, and with that the opportunity to be a hero revered instead of a lockstep tool deployed?

I know the odds are small for my ideas. But what is the harm in putting it out there? Isn't that feathering the nest for the desired change we seek? In most cases it's a tactic that's doomed for failure, but what if the batting average is greater than zero?

Don't we deserve the elation of what this could unleash?

The billionaires installed tRUMP and they most likely went to Epstein's island. tRUMP has said that releasing all the evidence from the Epstein files would hurt his friends. They are motivated to protect themselves from exposure and accountability. Of course, tRUMP does not want exposure either. that is why anyone in government who is a threat to his ability to keep from being exposed are receiving threats to themselves and their family members, and in some cases, harm in the form of lawsuits and investigations that lack merit.

I agree and I just finished messaging my senators to limit funding Of DHS to prohibit targeting of people on the basis of their appearance , accent or sex, (women are targeted too, as they consider them DEI.) I left a message for my representative in Congress too. the bill to appropriate funding is up for a vote before the end of the month. They should know that they are not legally allowed to kill people without due process, if at all. They should not be armed with guns. They are not immune to legal consequences when they commit murder, or assault that harms even an undocumented person.

It is time that members of congress either stand up and do the job we elected them to do or get out of the way of new senators and representatives who will. The truth is very simple - no one is above the law, Periodically, there are those who challenge that fact. They need to be reminded, as forcefully as necessary, of the principles that built America. Nazi Germany needs to be relegated to the history books for always, not revived in twenty-first century America. Hitler was a monster - historically the reigns of monsters do not end well.

ICE wasn't a massive problem for voters under prior administrations. The potential for abuse has always been there, but our political process rarely solves potential problems - just those that bleed votes. For instance, now that SCOTUS has officially declared that there are core powers for the executive branch, wouldn't it be nice if the Constitution declared that Congress may not delegate its core powers to the executive or judicial branches? The founders didn't fully anticipate the emergence of strong polarizing political parties with the ability to control all branches of government and be taken over by a person who wants to become a king. Wouldn't it be nice if the Constitution specified that the Senate could not permanently block a President from getting appointments voted on? Wouldn't it be nice if we had direct election of the President as well as all Statewide offices? There are other examples.

From the outside it looks as if the Trump regime is actually using and developing ICE as a paramilitary force - his brownshirts. Trump, Millar...et al. have no real policies, do they? It's just about enjoying the power allowing them to exert vaguely politicised violence without any sense of what the endgame might be. They've probably never asked themselves how they would feel if 'confronted' by a masked and armed stranger on the street as they are going about their usual daily activities. What on earth how on earth are ICE going to behave when thousands of foreign football fans visit the States for the football later in the year.
