I'm in the Uk & it is clear, that Trump has no support, even from the most rabid of toadies. One thing is clear however, we are on the precipice of something truly terrifying because Bibi walked Trump around on a leash, & now we are going to suffer the consequences of his actions.

WOW. I'm soooo sick of Kushner representing me and all Americans! He's too greedy for that and we pay the price. I hope we don't pay too high a price in bloodshed!

Mary's avatar

He shouldn’t be representing anything for the American people. He’s not part of the government. He wasn’t voted in by anyone except T.

Sue Gibb's avatar

From 🇨🇦, What price is too high? Seems you reached it 5 days ago unless you believe only lives of US citizens have value. ??

Nancy L. Hoffmann's avatar

"We" is everyone! I don't just identify with America: in fact, I'm also a French citizen. Thanks for clarifying that! And yes, we reached the limit the minute we bombed a girls school and Iran (sensibly) retaliated.

I have a similar issue that we had to explain to my 14 year old grandson: I love the US dearly, having taught US history/law/government for 25 years and how they should be honorable, productive citizens. But I hate Trump, his regime, MAGA, etc. I am Jewish. I love Israel, the people and the land. But I HATE Bibi and his government and their actions.

Yes, Bibi is the problem, not the Jews!

Thank you so much for expressing my thoughts and feeling exactly!

We are horrified and stand not knowing what to do, but somehow we must stop the hell!

Sue Gibb's avatar

Agreed. I've always wondered why, over time, it's the girl's schools that get targetted, by stray bombs, or errant kidnappers. Where are the boy's schools? Just a thought.

Rdw's avatar

Girls school was hit by Iran. On purpose to blame USA or accidentally ?? Ayatollahs are certainly misogynist enough to sacrifice a few …

We need much more awareness of the rest of the world and the geography of other nations. I am suspicious of this AI stuff and hesitate to use it, although my inquisitive nature would like to inspect it. I have old national geographic maps and such but info is on the move and change happens at warp speed or so it seems. I highlighted those oil pipelines on maps years ago when the boom was going on in the 80s. This year I will be 80 an old woman, wrinkles, warts an all. I now consider all humans to be my relatives that deserve love, respect and understanding. War is not only a horror but a terrible shame. Surely we should and CAN evolve, not devolve. Should I say dissolve?

Trump has made it clear that he doesn't value the lives of US citizens either.

I don’t get it. I thought Trump didn’t have any support in Europe, especially among NATO members and after all the contempt towards NATO. I understand that this irresponsible war is going to damage the economy of Europe. But to help Trump to use airports, send ships to fight Iran, send troops and equipment to defend Hormuz and other strategic positions, is join Trump in his dream of “Almighty” that could destroy us all.

Reich is correct that WWIII is underway with NATO engaged because an honest, functioning federal government in America has been destroyed over the last 58 years since 1968 by elected Republicans - Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush 1, Bush2, Trump 1&2 with Republicans in control of Congress and the Supreme Court.

America has suffered greatly from Republican lying and Republican objectives since 1968 which now include trying to win the midterms by falsely claiming the war with Iran is protecting American national security. There was no imminent threat to the US. The Trump administration is falsely pretending that the war was necessary to protect national security.

The real reason for the war with Iran comes from Republican objectives - First, Republicans are terrified about losing the mid-terms and wanted a distraction as a false claim of protecting America better than Democrats - Second, Republicans have caused wars in the Middle East and oil crises for decades since 1953 and the 1970s with a CIA led Iran coup in 1953 and by supporting Israel against the Arabs in the Middle East as Trump has now done and Nixon did by supporting Israel in the Yom Kippur War that pissed off the Arab nations (Saudi Arabia, ...) triggering the OPEC oil embargo causing the disastrous oil crisis in America in the1970s and then triggering the Iranians to seize the US Embassy in 1979 causing Carter to lose the election to Reagan. History repeats in stupid cycles driven by Republican objectives that screw Americans with wars and financial suffering with affordability including higher oil prices. Third - America in 1953 attacked democracy in Iran to take control of the oil. The 1953 coup in Iran, known as Operation Ajax, is a well-documented, watershed event in U.S.-Iran relations, where the CIA and British intelligence orchestrated the overthrow of Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh.

• The Motive (Oil Nationalization): In 1951, Mossadegh, a democratically elected leader, nationalized the Iranian oil industry. Previously, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now BP) held exclusive, lucrative rights, which Iran sought to control for its own economic benefit.

• The Coup Operation (Ajax): Following the oil nationalization, the British government initiated a global embargo, and subsequently, the U.S. (under Eisenhower) and the U.K. launched a covert operation in August 1953 to remove Mossadegh.

• Methodology: The CIA and MI6 used propaganda, bribery of politicians and security officials, and paid protestors to create chaos and undermine Mossadegh's government.

• Outcome: After a failed first attempt, a second, violent, CIA-backed coup on August 19, 1953, successfully forced Mossadegh from power.

• Post-Coup: Mossadegh was not assassinated, but rather arrested, tried, and placed under house arrest for the rest of his life. The Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was reinstated as an absolute monarch, cementing his power for another 26 years until the 1979 Revolution.

• Acknowledgment: In 2013, the CIA formally acknowledged its role in the coup, releasing documents that confirm it was a "CIA-directed" act of foreign policy.

Trump's attack on Venezuela was about oil not creating democracy. After the attack, Trump asked his rich oil buddies and campaign donors to invest in Venezuela and "drill baby drill" but they said the price of oil was too low and drilling was not economical. So how did Trump raise the price of oil? Start a war with Iran. The higher price would also enable Trump to make more money selling the oil he stole from Venezuela. Democracy? Affordability? Not happening. But WWIII is underway thanks to lying dishonest Republicans who have rejected democracy and the rule of law.

But the expanding war with Iran coud get really really bad because Russia and China are friends of Iran. China gets a lot of oil from Iran. Russia gets drones from Iran. Both Russia and China have nuclear weapons on missiles that can hit the US.

For 58 years since 1968, Republicans have caused tragic suffering in America and the world with wars, by stealing wealth from 99% of Americans, transferring the wealth to the top 1%, and justifying the suffering with extensive lying.

Trump’s America was the objective of the Republican campaign funded by the wealthy 1% to attack democracy that launched after the 1971 Powell memo and further defined in Project 2025 plan to be implemented as a lawless, fascist autocracy.

Trump owes his presidency to his lying and the failure by Democrats and the Supreme Court to enforce the law against insurrection that began on January 6, 2021, and has continued into 2025 and 2026 as planned in Project 2025. In 2024 through 2026, the Supreme Court has violated federal law 18 U.S. Code § 2383 by failing to enforce Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that stated Trump, an insurrectionist, was ineligible to hold office.

The insurrection in 2026 massively rejects and disobeys the laws and authority of courts of the United States which is a criminal felony according to the federal law on insurrection, 18 U.S. Code § 2383 which states “whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the united states.”

American can be saved by “we the people” if fair elections are held to elect Democrats in 2026 and who can win control of the presidency and Congress in 2028. But then in 2029, Democrats must arrest, prosecute and imprison Trump, members of his administration, Republicans in Congress, ICE agents, and six justices on the Supreme Court who violated the federal law on insurrection, 18 U.S. Code § 2383 by assisting and engaging in the insurrection underway in 2026.

I, along with millions of other citizens, remember reagan, nixon, ford, bush 1 and bush 2 and now 2 terms of the most amoral, lying, deceitful, vicious, self centered, and to top it off, a convicted felon trying to destroy our Democracy, by being given immunity, which he thinks, give him the power to do and say what he pleases, as our judiciary has become deaf, dumb and blind to his acts of crime, for fear of indirectly loosing those thirty pieces of silver from mysterious donors. So when the time comes ANY AND ALL PERSONS CONNECTED TO THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION IN ANY WAY SHOULF BE ARRESTED, PROSECUTED AND IMPRISONED RIGHT ALONG WITH TRUMP AND HIS MAGA WORSHIPPERS, IMPROSON THE WHOLE D**N INSURRECTIONIST BUNCH. Margo Kasdan's avatar

And please don't forget the very beginning of it all with Iran when, in 1953, the CIA assassinated in1953 Mohammed Mossadegh, democratically elected Prime Minister because he dared to Nationalize the oil industry for the good of the people of the country and bad for U.S. and U.K. oil interests.

William - Well written. My thought about getting Congress to do their job (other than continuing to call/email them) is maybe putting them (instead of our servicemen and servicewomen) in a trailer on a foreign base and tell them that it’s as secure as the one that they put our troops in who died in Kuwait when a drone they couldn’t stop hit it. Under hegseth’s rationale “things happen”. “Things happen” must be so comforting to the new members of the Gold Star families. It took his second in command to even acknowledge their sacrifice. Maybe Congress would hurry up and do the right damn thing if they were in a trailer that Hegseth claimed was “secure”. Then they might not buy his bs anymore than we do. After Hegseth once again made derogatory comments about the help we have received from our NATO allies in the past (and now) I’m surprised that they are helping this time around. It wasn’t just Americans who have died in past wars but also our allies and civilians. Republicans bitch about spending money when it’s a democrat party in charge but they have no problem when they get to do so. Especially when it comes to wars. Hypocrites.

William L Miller's avatar

Yes. The war with Iran was pushed by Hegseth who is a Christian nationalist and Dominionist who is in a radical church that believes he and other Dominionists have to start the end of times war involving Israel that causes the rapture just before the second coming of Christ

Unfortunately, that's accurate. Mike Johnson was also involved, sending 5 red heifers from Texas to Tel Aviv as they believe they must be sacrificed in order to usher in Armageddon. I'm not kidding. Who was at greater risk---

Trump had a "feeling" that US forces were about to be attacked, no intel, just a single man's intuition surrounding a possible armed incursion against our forces was all the information needed for our country to be thrown into a war. We have about 40,000 service members in the region and Trump feared for their safety. In doing so he abandoned 500,000 Americans residing in the Middle East. He saw fit to protect 40,000 service members over the lives of half a million Americans civilians living in the vicinity. That's a fair trade. There never was a plan to do anything other than to drop bombs so Drone-ald Trump could flex his muscles and show the world what a fearsome leader he really is. Everything of value in that man's soul is an inverted mess. He has to go---

In other news of the extremely stupid, rumor has it the CIA is going to try and arm the Kurds to stir up a rebellion in Iran. The Turks will go absolutely mental about this. This message is to say trump is to be held totally in our, the sane USCitizens contempt. The screams after Dec7th, 1941 was due to Japan’s sneak attack on Pearl Harbor during peace negotiations. Yet this Piece does the same. Couldn’t agree more…

“Where are the progressive voices?” They’ve been documenting this for months while some were hoping institutions would function.

Venezuela proved the concept: launch regime change without congressional authorization, face zero pushback, demonstrate executive power has no constraints. Iran confirms its operational doctrine.

Calling on Congress to “use their power to stop this” assumes Congress has power. It doesn’t. The constitutional system appealing to stopped working. They were briefed and lied to (Gang of Eight told nothing about regime change Feb 24, Trump approved it Feb 27). No consequences, no institutional response.

This isn’t happening “without our consent”—it’s happening because the mechanisms designed to require consent have been gutted and nobody stopped it.

NATO involvement, global escalation, 940+ dead…all predictable outcomes when you let authoritarian foreign policy become operational. The war isn’t violating “America First.” It’s proving executive power answers to no one.

Congress won’t stop this. They already proved they won’t. The system collapsed before the bombs dropped.

Canadian here. It's out of control. Deranged trump is now causing irreparable damage on a "worldwide scale". America's former allies feel helpless in the face of this demented "terrorist" criminal g-rapist in the WH, wreaking havoc along with his cabinet of blood thirsty psychopaths and inept clowns. Equally to blame are Congressional republicans - deadbeat, amoral cretins who've shirked all responsibility, debased themselves, and their country. The stench from this collective pile of human sewage has now seeped into the global arena.

This war is not legitimate, yet the USA seems unable or unwilling to do anything to stop their rampaging madman. Global law-based order is done. The only thing I can envision that might end the insanity: the formation of a shadow government consisting of those fired Generals, military leaders, intelligence officers, FBI agents, DOJ lawyers, etc, i.e. the 'sane' people trump got rid of. The mission being to end the lawlessness run amok and oust the current crazies by force. All they need is to get the military on their side. The USA's allies might also support this "good" coup in some fashion. None of us wants to be nuked and we all know that is a possibility if demented trump decides to use it. He's the threat to humanity that needs to be removed - it's not Iran at this juncture.

Storm the WH and arrest them all; a Putin-installed puppet, illegitimate president in the WH and his enablers in the overt crime spree, now gone global. There is certainly no dearth of crimes for which they can all be charged at this point. Take them all out in handcuffs and charge them accordingly...

Also, implement a tribunal to HOLD TO ACCOUNT, every elected republican who committed crimes and/or "knowingly" participated or abetted trump in the crime spree, including withholding evidence, intimidation, threats, murder and "crimes against humanity". Wilful blindness won't save them.

I can't say Like, but I fear that you're right. I've lived longer than anyone in my direct line for six or seven generations, and now I'm not sure that's a good thing—nor that it will last long now.

No need to apologize. Optimism precedes experience, cynicism follows it.

I’m afraid their genitals have become internal organs.

uRNangel423's avatar

If that were the case, then they most likely would be considered “a female or androgynous” but we can agree that if they were women this Congress wouldn’t have gotten this far with their heads up their a$$es! I’m very much peeved with the repubs and their lack of balls!

Susan Morrow's avatar

If there has ever been a time for the 25th amendment to be acted on, it is now. I used to think Trump a garden variety Narcissist. His behavior aligns more accurately with the term malignant narcissist (google it!) a serious pattern of sadistic behaviors. This man is dangerous to himself and others.

A progressive voice is right here, speaking. I ask everyone to not count on Elections.

To green light AI with no guardrails,, for unspecified use in modern weaponry, is his most reckless choice of all.

Skepticat's avatar

It's a teeny tiny bit past time—2016 or 2017 would have been much better.

Rich Sobel's avatar

That's because most of Congress is white men. Women don't have that problem, LOL! And they're often much smarter, excepting the MAGA ones.

Margo Kasdan's avatar

Please! I'm a feminist but what about Boebert, MTG until recently, Collins, et. al., plus Noem, Bondi, and all those women in t's orbit, including that twit Karoline Leavitt? Margaret Thatcher taught us that women can be as bad as anyone. I think the problem is greed, corruption, and the unfortunte grand loophole of American law.

Rich Sobel's avatar

Yes, I agree, Margo. Those are the 3 big ones. And the total lack of empathy and compassion of orange man's minions.

Margo Kasdan's avatar

It's not just that they lack those characteristics, it's also that they have all of the worst human characteristics.

WW3 will end in nothing short of global apocalypse via nuclear war. We cannot afford this. There is no winning world war 3

That’s what they want, an Apocalypse to reign in the rapture and the second coming of Jesus! Our Military is FULL of EVANGELICALS (CULTS)

If so they are really suckers and losers, as Trump said.

Definitely a rapture- related incident. The white supremacists, nihilists and weirdos in the White House are acting very apocalyptically, threatening some form of holy war or religious crusade.

Susan Skinner's avatar

That's what they're aiming for--total annihilation, leading to the Apocalypse, then the Second Coming(tm) of Christ. That's what the War Sec said--no rules of order, fight to the finish, blood and guts and GLORY,forever and ever.

Klare K.'s avatar

Susan, excuse my French, but Jesus H. Christ! He sure as hell ain't coming to THIS PLANET! From what I've heard, Jesus never killed ANYONE, to get his way, nor for any other reason! Johnson is a ball-less, dickless, impotent, erectile dysfunction whore to Trump, and I call him regularly to tell him so!

Susan Skinner's avatar

You go, Klare. I know French.

What do you expect from a television actor who read a script handed to him to report the news? He does have an inkling on how to do the job he’s in, let alone instill any faith to the American public, even the top brass he pushed out didn’t fall for his bs!

Why do we allow Trump to terrorize the world? As far as Putin is concerned, we know Trump is his lap dog. We have a lawless president heading us for ww3. Nothing he does is for the benefit of America. Again, why is the entire world putting up with this?

Jen Webb's avatar

It’s actually the responsibility of the citizens of the US to rein in your incompetent and frequently unlawful government; all we can do is watch, amazed and a bit disgusted, while US citizens and institutions wring their hands as that crew of nugatory bastards drive us all into an abyss.

Susan Skinner's avatar

If you try to stop them, you're likely to be killed by the Brown Shirts. But since we're going to be killed anyway, resistance seems like it's the only way to go.

Americans are giving their lives and liberty to protest, resist, and stand up to this fascist, very heavily armed regime. States are fighting the regime through the courts - and winning - but this is not quick or dramatic. People are using the power of the purse to punish companies who support the regime and it is working. Instead of judging us, support us! Perhaps get a subscription to the NYT so you can actually witness the gazillion small and large acts of bravery and resistance that is going on throughout our beloved country. We will fight to death! - you can be sure of it!!!!

Jen Webb's avatar

Not judging; just responding to the OP wondering why the rest of the world is letting this happen.

Kay Valley's avatar

Because too many of them are on the same team. They want this. From the confusion they will decimate Palestine. And everywhere else they want gone. From the rubble, a world under surveillance. And a new slave population to serve the rich.

Welcome to tomorrow. I think we're about to learn that even if history only echoes, it's still going to be a motherfcuka.

Susan Skinner's avatar

This is not "confusion". This is delusion and hubris and cruelty, deliberate and(sort of) planned, though their thinking leads me to believe they couldn't organize a fuck in a brothel. They will throw all the weapons they can think of at whoever, including "our own people in the Homeland"(urp) and be throttled up to Jesus in the Rapture(tm).

Remember also that you have to take every lie from the Fat Fascist Felon/MAGA and reverse it to find the truth. He says up, it's down. He says peace, it's war. He says good, it's bad. So you're right. Don't get your hopes up.

Sam Ray's avatar

In psychology, that’s called projection.

Susan Skinner's avatar

In psychiatry, that's called malignant narcissism and what used to be known as sadistic personality disorder.

Sam Ray's avatar

While it is recognized as a subtype, malignant narcissism has never been officially recognized by the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) thus is not what was known as sadistic personality disorder, which was in the DSM. Sadism is just one part of such malignants.

Trump needed a war, wanted a war, fantasied about a war. Because he likes killing people. You don’t think so? Too harsh a statement ?

Well he has a war now. He is claiming it is his war but in effect it’s Bibi’s and Saudi Arabia’s war, it suits their purposes . 😂😂😂we pay for it, they get what they want. Talk about what chumps we are.

Susan Skinner's avatar

So,l et's stop paying for it!

They just want our money. They don't care that we "don't approve".

Pot calling the kettle black, again.

"Meanwhile, Russia, which has a strategic partnership treaty with Iran, is accusing the U.S. of using an “imaginary threat” from Iran as a pretext for overthrowing its constitutional order. Putin calls the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei a 'cynical violation of all norms of human morals and the international law.'"

Michael Todd's avatar

You’re spot on. Putin wouldn’t hesitate to blow Zelensky to bits first chance he got.

Linda Wallers's avatar

He's been trying to kill Zelenskyy for the last four years, not including the eight years before that when he usurped Crimea from Ukraine. Apparently, Putin and Trump share not only a desire for perpetual power but an absence of irony.

TOM PAIN's avatar

This is good for Russia, good for Putin, in two ways. He can sell more Russian oil at higher prices (oil is up from $66 to $83 in two weeks), and the US will have fewer weapons to sell to Europe to sell or give to Ukraine. So it partially disarms Ukraine.

I wonder if this is the real reason for Trump's Folly, Putin asked him to, or told him to, to take both economic and military pressure off Putin.

America has nothing to gain and much to lose from creating 100% foreseeable chaos all over the Middle East. Putin has much to gain and nothing to lose.
