Thanks Bob! It was a delight making this film with you, Heather, Elliot, Meredith and the whole gang. What an adventure. Most of documentary filmmaking amounts to good listening, but I suppose this film took it to a whole new level. Now comes the adventure of bringing the film out into the world, and listening anew to what people have to say!
Hi Penelope! We try to start in as many theaters and festivals as can get to - both here and abroad - in an effort to prioritize in-person events, but after that the film's rollout will be digital and hopefully know no bounds. For this first phase we're hoping to reach a lot of communities big and small, rural and urban, just as we did in the film. Small-town theaters are wonderful venues, and a chance to bring neighbors together in conversation.
Hi, Peggy. Yes to eventually! We’re going to prioritize theaters (and independent ones when possible). And then we’ll have a live watchalong of the film, and then some sort of streaming. Please stay tuned! Thank you.
I'd love for the film to be shown in Austin, TX -- it would sell out. I think we OWE EACH OTHER in all things. We cannot be a community that touts freedom, and then not fight for it for EVERY person. That defines America at its BEST, progressing towards fulfilling our written beliefs and goals.
Democrats Abroad chapters around the world work very hard to get US citizens living overseas registered to vote in US elections. All US citizens are eligible to vote no matter how long they have lived outside the US.
If you could possibly make this film available for Democrats Abroad chapters to air in private showings it could be a great tool to encourage voter participation which is currently under 10% of Americans living abroad. Thanks for considering this!
Last year, us folks out here in Wichita, Kansas, managed to fill a theater for a showing of The Last Class. I dare say we can do it again for The Work In Progress! Or perhaps have it shown on Public Television?
What do we owe each other? I saw Facebook postings (sorry I don’t have link) where a school teacher was asking people to contribute pencils and things for her classrooms. There were postings objecting that their donations might be used by other people’s children. There is no common interest anymore.
I believe the greatest gift we can give is listening and that the hardest part is when what you hear is heartless instead of full of heart. Right now there are so many people filled with hatred for others because they’ve been filled with poison from a group whose hope is to divide our nation into pieces that can’t be fixed.
But besides those people there are folks who’ve been badly mislead, but still believe a fix can be found by listening and coming together on common ground.
So I guess the big question is which group is bigger or more willing to change their minds just enough to see a bit of another side.
Time will tell if nothing more comes along to make the chasm too deep to mend.
That would be lovely. I have been curious what audiences overseas - who probably think all sorts of things about Americans! - would make of a film about Americans sitting down thoughtfully in conversation.
Hello! Canadian here. I would love to see this film as I believe many other Canadians would as well. We are confused, sad & bewildered as to the current discord in such a great, iconic country. We need to understand what's happening there as it does spill over. We are connected on all levels. We all need to understand, learn & have grace
The mystery of audiences overseas... they're sitting on both sides of the pond, as diverse as you can possibly imagine. It's not easy to discern a common thread that could serve as a guide to their thoughts.
This is a great way of gathering information on what people think about their country. I would love to. have been able to see it. It would be great if it could be shown overseas because it would show the real American people and there thoughts.
Even for those of us who have lived inyour country it at times is hard to explain that America and the people are not like shown in the media.
I hope your film will go viral all over your country.

Kudos - That is why we have two ears and one mouth.
Please show at the Cedar Lee Theater in Cleveland Hts., Ohio and the Apollo Theater in Oberlin, Ohio. They share planning.
Ian—Are you bringing the film out into the world, or just out into specific spots in the US?

Please, please bring this film to The Flicks Theater, Boise, Idaho. The Last Class was a hit here. Showings were added, if memory serves me.

Please have it shown in Santa Fe, NM at the Center for Contemporary Arts (CCA) where The Last Class was shown.
What do we owe each other as members of the same society?
Above all: honesty and empathy.
Hugo, I might add mutual respect

Wow! That is the living definition of an impoverished state of being. I pity her.

Düsseldorf in Germany would be appreciated. Sigh. 😳 I'll be patient. Perhaps there will be another watchalong...
