“a global wave of hard-line conservative populism.”???

That is weak sauce, NYT!!

How about "a crime wave of demagoguery, corruption, and authoritarianism"?

Another masterly analysis, Professor! I would like to add a few comments from an onlooker across the pond. There is no point complaining about Trump - he will never change for the better. He can, and will, only get worse. I am older than both Trump and Reich (but not Biden!) and I can tell you, Donald, based on my experience, life will not get any easier for you!

So, how did America get into this mess? Respectfully, I blame the extreme binary choices that govern the daily lives of most Americans. Left/Right, White/Black, Republican/Democrat, Gay/Straight, Rich/Poor etc etc. Until you all learn that most of life takes place in the 'grey area' (or gray) and tolerance, co-operation and decency are essential building blocks for humanity to progress, I see little chance of meaningful progress towards getting your country back on the track that the Founders intended it to follow.

In the UK parliament, we have 'His Majesty's Opposition' which is the political party that came second in the previous General Election. Its role is to poke and prod the party in power - but not bring the whole government process to a grinding halt by refusing to co-operate on principle - which appears to happen regularly in the US Congress.

Your Most Amazing Stupid Mistake - Trump should have been impeached at the second attempt because more than 50% of the Senators voted that way. The 60% rule is ridiculous! A majority is a majority, as Pete Hegseth will tell you.

I don't mean to offend - I love you all!
