One of the lessons is that shamelesness, bigotry, blaming, evading accountability, crime, demagoguery, obstruction of justice, threatening political opponents, being out for personal gain, at the expense of others, that pays of. And tens of millions of Americans are now complicit in the crimes the candidate they voted for committed, and the crimes he is going to commit. And obviously, they don't give a damn.

Quite agree, the DNC must completely remake itself. There is an outstanding precedent. In 1945, Winston Churchill was at the height of his popularity. After 5 long years of WWII, an election had to be called in August of that year, and everyone, Churchill included, assumed he would win in a landslide. There were no polls in those days.

The opposition Labour Party also assumed they would lose, and when they sat down to draft their manifesto, someone suggested that since they were going to lose anyway, why not offer what they really wanted, instead of tacking to the center as they always did. So they offered universal healthcare and free tuition, to be paid for by increased taxes on the wealthy. Basically, the Sanders program.

And, to everyone's surprise, they won in a landslide.
