JD said mistakes will be made---and Trump backed him up.

Bull--Professionals don't make mistakes. By saying that they do --opens the door for weaker minded ICE agents to just say screw it -laws don't apply to me, and then the next tragedy is at hand. The entire premise of ICE today is sick and wrong. They are an out of control mob of Gestapo types who enjoy heavy handed techniques applied to the civilization population. ICE has the same mindset as the morons who attacked our capitol on 1/6. Mercenaries, paid thugs who could care less about the well being of the general public. Trumpers, through and through. JD--your appearance in Minneapolis today was unwanted.

Lana May's avatar

I want ICE unmasked. How many of ICE are January 6th Insurrectionists (s/b a small "i").

J6 thugs are his personal army. Get rid of them and Trump/Vance/Johnson/Lindsey Graham, Noem, Patel, et al.

doc's avatar

Similar to the KKK, they don't want anyone to know who they are. Cowards fear retribution for their unlawful actions. Agree that the entire cesspool needs to be flushed out.

Parkin Hunter's avatar

Nothing changes. I remember as a kid seeing the klan in their robes and hoods burn crosses at rallies at an old dirt track near Florence, South Carolina in the 1950/1960s. My great aunts knew soldiers that fought in the Civil War. This all certainly proves Faulkner was right when he wrote “The past is never dead. It's not even past."

Jonni's avatar

It did change. This is the backlash. The backlash is waking people up.

Tina's avatar

You forgot Miller, Vought, and Jim Jordan.

Whineboy's avatar

💯% correct. It’s why all the ICE ‘officers’ wear masks and such. Sickening.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Lana, I'm with you. They are all traitors to this nation, from within, doing things one would only expect a traitorous foreign nation to do to us.

Richard Schoemer's avatar

not even naze brownshirts of gestapo wore masks. This is thugs at large.

47 is a convicted felon found guilty of dozens of counts of fraud and liable for SA and defamation. I don’t believe anything he says. Likewise with JDV, given his confession to Dana Bash (CNN, 9/18/24) that he creates stories. “If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, that’s what I’m going to do, Dana.” He wasn’t VP yet. Not sure how he wasn’t disbarred for that, other than purview confusion. He resides in OH but is licensed to practice law in KY. Which raises other questions… https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/sep/15/jd-vance-lies-haitian-immigrants

Ruth Sheets's avatar

ISOequanimity, I would not trust Vance as far as I could throw him and that wouldn't be too far. I suspect a significant portion of his supposed memoir was made up. People like Vance, opportunists find that when something they have done in a particular situation works, they will keep doing it. Making up stories to pretend something is what it isn't is Vance's forte. I read his "Hillbilly Ellogy" but thought it was crap, particularly his attitude toward the people of Appalachia, people he seems to have known little about despite claims of being from them. He was picked by Theil (a nasty immigrant) because Vance can be easily manipulated and will make up explanations for the illegal behavior. How did he manage to get a law degree from Yale? I am guessing that having a moral compass in practicing the law is not a requirement for a law degree there, possibly other "elite" schools too. What hypocrisy that it is those schools that Trump, Vance, and the rest of the toddler pool are going after.

Penelope Whiteside's avatar

"Hillbilly Elegy" which JDV wrote is full of stories which I believed true as I read them! Were they "created"? Curious!

Martha Ture's avatar

Penelope, did you go over to Wikipedia and look him up? Or ask google?

Marge Wherley's avatar

Damn right. We are disgusted that he set foot in our state.

Mike Regan's avatar

What is worrisome is that, if they don't prosecute the shooter of Ms Good, the rest of the ICE-hearted crew will take as a pass to do anything they like.

MM Harris's avatar

By now you undoubtedly know that your claim is already coming true because on Saturday, Jan 24, they killed Veteran Administration Intensive Care Nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis for no justifiable reason.

Alan Goldhammer's avatar

ICE is Trump's private army, and he can turn it away from immigrants to you and to me.

Victor's avatar

Very important point, Alan.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Donald, ICE most likely has a bunch of January 6thers in its ranks because that is the kind of thugs DHS is looking for to do harm to immigrants here, and it is working. In reality, we don't need JD anywhere. He is an opportunist who will take advantage of any situation to try to make points. The problem for him is people do not like him. He has no charisma, no decency, no kindness, nothing that would endear himself to anyone, well, except maybe his family and we really don't know much about them and his relationship with them. He just trots them out when he wants to look decent or something.

Penelope Whiteside's avatar

Perhaps we can thank the detestable Vance persona for one thing: he will never get nominated or win the presidency! ( Much faith and hope rides on this statement, plus belief in love of country!)

Karen Axt's avatar

Everyone can make mistakes. The issue isn’t mistakes. Vance is as much a two-faced liar as Twimp, but worse. He’s smarter & should know better, but he’s a political weasel. As a Yale law graduate, his partisan erroneous comments about legal issues are utterly despicable, worse than Ted Cruz.

bitchybitchybitchy's avatar

Vance is an opportunist who will do whatever he thinks he needs to do to get power. He's another moral abyss.

MM Harris's avatar

Yep, but he's not very good at it! (btw, love your handle; makes me chuckle every time I see it..)

Mike Regan's avatar

ICE agents need to be identifiable so they can be prosecuted for committing their horrible crimes.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Mike, I suspect that if those ICE agents wore no masks and were only lightly armed with non-lethal weapons, they would be less likely to commit so many crimes they would have to be prosecuted for. That might not be true, though because it does depend on the quality of the people hired and it is clear the current quality is quite low!

MM Harris's avatar

Not only that but they probably subconsciously (or maybe consciously) feel they can throw their weight around because they roam the streets and countryside in unnecessarily large numbers. (Wondering if anyone has ever suggested to one of them that they look like pansies because it takes typically 4-6 of them to throw a woman to the ground.... and in many cases - whether "needed" or not - there will be MORE than that "in action" re just one poor citizen.. AND 10 more surrounding them.... all heavily armed, of course. Wow. Such "real men" ........... NOT!!

MM Harris's avatar

Even if a law were enacted eliminating the masks (and/or requiring body cams) they will thumb their noses at it. Silly waste of time. BETTER TO TAKE ALL THEIR $$$$$ AWAY.

Paula's avatar

I wrote to my MAGA representative about the murder of Renee Good. Here is part of his response:

“On January 8, 2026, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were carrying out their lawful duties when they encountered an activist who purposely positioned her vehicle in the street to impede their advancement. When ICE officers approached the individual and instructed her to exit the vehicle, she ignored the order and proceeded to drive away toward an ICE officer. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the officer fired his weapon at the driver of the vehicle in self-defense. While she attempted to evade the immigrations officers, her vehicle struck the officer who fired his service weapon.”

Karen Axt's avatar

Exactly. First and most obviously, Good’s murder was on Jan. 7, not Jan 8. What an ignorant MAGA “rep”.

Sharyn Loshakoff's avatar

Paula, did you write back to your MAGA Rep and tell him he was a liar and you will never vote for him because of his lies?

Paula's avatar

I’m working on a response. He is the chair of the Freedom Caucus so I know I won’t change his mind, but calling him out will definitely make me feel better.

MM Harris's avatar

Here's an suggestion: "I know what I saw. We all do. We expect a high level of integrity in our elected officials - people we've have put into office (and PAY FOR) in order to support the Constitution AND protect those constituents in their districts and beyond. We will not return to office any official who deviates from the truth and/or ignores our laws.... and/or enables others who lack integrity."

Paula's avatar

Thanks for the suggestion, MM, I’m sure I will be able to use it in the future. I did call his office and left this message (modifying the 5 Calls talking points):

It is unconscionable that you, as an elected official, are perpetuating a false narrative concerning Renee Good (who was murdered on January 7th not 8th as your response letter stated). Both Ms. Good and now Alex Pretti were murdered by apparently lawless federal agents. Both sworn witness statements and on the scene videos show that the DHS narratives are false.

I am urging you to oppose ICE’s ongoing attacks on both immigrants and citizens and hold this administration accountable fro their authoritarian and unlawful tactics. I ask that you:

Demand full investigations into ICE’s use of deadly force against protestors and their murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti;

Demand ICE and CBP stop wearing masks;

Conduct public investigations into the DOJ’s coordinated protections of ICE agents from criminal liability; and

Call for the impeachment of Kristi Noem.

MM Harris's avatar

REALLY GOOD!! I wasn't sure how far you were comfortable in getting totally specific and you let him have it! His spineless little self should be grateful........

Victor's avatar

That's not what the video shows. The officer positioned in front of the car as it started moving, and he began pulling his gun out immediately. This is why there is a bullet hole in the windshield; the other two shots were fired into the driver's window. There was no valid reason even for a single shot. This was murder, and a hate crime. Your representative is parroting the official line, only to be expected. This case is far from over..

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Paula, yep, I got something almost identical from my Repub senator, McCormack. I think they all must have gotten the memo of what to put in their lie about the murder, which was clearly nothing like the description by the Repubs, Trump's minions.

bitchybitchybitchy's avatar

The MAGA/GOP all get their marching orders from Trump, as they demonstrated during Jack Smith's testimony today.

ISOequanimity's avatar

If they voted for military action in Venezuela, perhaps ICC will issue arrest warrants for the lot of them. After we take the house and Senate in November, we can arrange for extradition.

June Taylor's avatar

Send your legislator the NYT reconstruction of the timeline of Renee Good’s killing. I’d say he was ignorant but if he actually said she ran over the ICE agent, he doesn’t mind repeating lies. Here’s the link to the NYT article, for free. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/15/video/ice-shooting-renee-good-minneapolis-videos.html?unlocked_article_code=1.E1A.GLsh.4rpix-sxBjvR&smid=nytcore-ios-share

But organize support for a Democratic candidate to challenge that legislator.

ISOequanimity's avatar

How is that not perpetuating fraud?

Ian Ogard's avatar

Aiding and abetting?

Tina's avatar

Wow! Thank you for the link.

Victor's avatar

Share the information with other voters, ignore the corrupt lacquey representing them.

Mike Regan's avatar

It appeared that the car sped up AFTER the shots were fired. If anyone put the officer in danger, it was he himself.

Mary Stewart's avatar

I think that is the reason real law enforcement officials are told not to shoot at vehicles. A car whose driver is disabled or dead cannot control what the car does. It may speed up. It may hit something. One more example of the lack of competence of ICE.

Gloria J Van Hof's avatar

The incident was videotaped and has been thoroughly analyzed by law enforcement from all angles. While MAGA supporters contend that Ms. Good, an unarmed American citizen, struck the agent with her vehicle, video footage from bystanders shows that Ms. Good's vehicle was angled away from the agent as she began to drive away. If Ross wished to detain her, he had other methods at his disposal. Ross's actions appeared to be deliberate and intentional. He pulled the trigger three times, striking Ms. Good in the forearm, the breast, and lastly, the fatal headshot. Clearly, Ms. Good didn't do anything to deserve the death sentence she received from Agent Ross, who apparently appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner.

ISOequanimity's avatar

Any elected representative who knowingly repeats an untrue version of what happened is engaging in fraud and should be subject to criminal charges, imho. One more thing on the to-do list once we win the house and senate in November.

progwoman's avatar

I think you need a new representative.

Pam Reynolds's avatar

They have publicly confirmed themselves as murderers, again lying with their feeble rationalizations.

Alan Goldhammer's avatar

Gerald Rogan's avatar

Perhaps fear is driving the response of your representative: fear of being primaried, fear of losing his elected position, fear he may need another job?

Mary Stewart's avatar

He does need another job. I have no idea what he is qualified to do. If he lies, no one should trust him with anything.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Gerald, that is probably true which means he/she has no business in Congress at all. A rep/Senator with no courage is a danger to everyone.

Ian Ogard's avatar

Fear that the mob boss in chief will go after his family?

MM Harris's avatar

What is lost in the Renee Good shooting is the heroism of the Capitol Police on Jan 6,2021, who could have shot at the crowd in self defense but didn't.

Can you believe that they threatened to prosecute this black woman, Nekima Levy Armstrong, under the 1871 Ku Klux Klan Act. The legislation makes illegal any conspiracy to "injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate," people from exercising "any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States."

It's beyond crazy.

Ian Ogard's avatar

Thanks for compiling all that material from trusted sources. You put the pieces of the ugly puzzle together. Well done.

Russell, you have listed here some of the major reasons this KKK inspired ICE crew needs to be entirely disbanded, all their funding revoked, and their concentration camp prisons closed and the immigrants in them released and reviewed for a path to citizenship for the horrors perpetrated on them for no reason other than that they are immigrants of color. We do not need ICE in any form ever!

Richard Schoemer's avatar

Jose Siman's avatar

That's what so disapointing. If you impeach Trump you get Vance. He's even more dangerous because he's very articulate and appears rational (unlike his boss) but is a big liar and bender of the truth. And then, there's the whole cabinet, full of psychophants and incompetents. Being from Miami I am specially disappointed in Marco Rubio.

And Congress, asleep at the wheel. We're in a very deep mess and it's going to take a very long time to "right the ship" assuming the 40% that are still with Trump are not able to block it.

Step #1 is to retake Congress.

Unfortunately the Demicrstic party is totally incompetent, so I'm not too hooeful.

I love our country dearly. I am so disraught to see it dragged through this mess.

Phil Kuhn's avatar

I have one quibble, Donald: even professionals make mistakes. When they do, the good ones own up to their mistakes. I agree with the tenor of your comment, though.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Phil, actually, this was not a mistake. Since at least 2 of us got nearly the same report from our reps, it means it was not a mistake, but a directive from above. They all think we are stupid and can be talked out of knowing what really happened with a set of carefully orchestrated lies; we can't. I am blind, so did not see the videos (several) but I heard what happened and all of them were basically the same in the sound part. The ICE agent Ross had his cell phone with him to record the murder which he moved from his right to left hand so he could take out his gun and shoot Ms. Good. He was not hit by the car, walked away quickly with no limp whatsoever (reported to me by people I trust), and called Ms. Good an f-en B*tch. A definite lie that was shared and spoken by even a president of the US and his Sec. of Homeland Security is not a mistake it is a deliberate gaslighting, a crime against the American people to cover a murder by a federal official who had no business having a gun or a cell phone on the job, but this time, it was good he did have a cell phone so we all got to know what kind of person he is and what our fascist president and his minions will do to cover up a murder.

Phil Kuhn's avatar

Ruth, thank you for your comment. As I said, mine was a quibble about professionals making mistakes. I have watched the videos, too. I feel certain Ms. Good was intentionally murdered. She certainly did not hit the “agent” with her car. The “agent” was certainly ignoring standard procedures before, during, and after discharging his pistol at Ms. Good. These stormtroopers for Trump need to stop hiding behind masks and taking responsibility for their actions.

Ruth Sheets's avatar

Phil, I heard Trump and his toddler pool claim that nurses and teachers are not professionals while they, a bunch of whiny white toddler-men and a few women act as unprofessionally as possible. The "professional" comment is only because the majority of teachers and nurses happen to be women, far better trained than any of Trump's toddler pool no matter what degrees the pool's members claim to have. They don't make mistakes; they deliberately lie and do harm to the American people because they have impunity and will ignore any judgments by the courts they don't like because, who is going to stop them.

NSAlito's avatar

But do the Epstein files still exist in a reliable form? They've had their paws on them long enough for deletions and modifications mammy!

Dorothy King's avatar

Forgive my sarcasm, Pat... I'm tired and cranky. I'm not without hope for the US but it is diminishing. I wonder how we as "a people" can start to talk, disagree, but keep talking. My husband and I live in a tiny rural community in Nova Scotia. It is filled with families that go way back, are poor and poorly educated IF AT ALL. My Jewish husband and I were at a card game with a local couple when the husband made a Jewish slur. I said "Mort, I know you didn't mean Stan, but he is Jewish." Nothing more was said and the game continued. The next day Mort showed up with something unexpected to help us with our garden. It was an apology. I realized almost immediately when the slur was made, that Mort had no real concept of what a Jew is. Ignorance isn't always chosen and somehow Americans need to get beyond their groups and engage with people who aren't like them. Get out, talk to strangers, find out why they think the way they do... maybe there's something to learn. Cheers, Dorothy

Pat Goudey OBrien's avatar

Mmmm, I hear you, most certainly. Yes, so many people are not aware of small bits of our cultures that are slurs, whether meant that way, understood to be that way, or not. My own consciousness was so much raised about all this by my mother-in-law, whose Orthodox family emigrated to New York City from Warsaw after WWI, to avoid pogroms. {She eventually converted to Baha’i} My husband always gently but firmly let people know he was Jewish in cases like the one you describe, as well. The need continues …

Be well.

Joseph Clark Walker's avatar

Still, 22.5% of the population of the USA is a whole lot of people, say, 75 mil thereabouts?

My point, Pat, is that when people say that Trump's poling is low at ,say 22.5% , it still represents roughly 75 mil people still favor him and to me, that is still a lot of people who think he hung the moon. Capice?

Pat Goudey OBrien's avatar

Yeah, I’m Italian. I capice. But MY point is, the concept of “a lot” is relative to the whole, and on the whole, this country does not support him. On the whole planet, we have a number of countries that are autocratic, and even fascist. i hate that. I do not discuss that reality as though those people were overrunning the rest of us, who oppose those views. But, it’s important to try to reach people and present a better view of human society, to carry our species into the future. Capice?

Tom H's avatar

75 million is roughly the number of votes Trump got in the last election. Unfortunately, the Harris/Walz ticket did not inspire enough opposing voters to bother to vote.

Pat Goudey OBrien's avatar

Tom, true there were not “enough” opposing voters to beat Trump in the electoral college, but more people voted for Kamala and other Left candidates {like Stein} than voted for Trump. And 75 million is less than 25% of 350 million people {of course, that larger number also includes non-voters). I object to painting our country as supporting Trump, when it is a fraction of people who do, and a larger fraction (by, as he likes to say, “a lot”) who do NOT support him.

Pat Goudey OBrien's avatar

I think his cult is smaller than that, but there is a floor they keep under him. A dirty, lousy floor that he sh*ts on.

This country spent decades on electing people on the basis of who was gonna stand up to the commies more. We blew our national treasure and killed 50,000 young men because of the idiocy of the domino theory. My point is that the electorate as a whole is so uninformed or apathetic as to be easily manipulated by slogans and bullshit churned out by corporate capitalists and their media. Americans do a reasonably good job electing the right people after their house has burned down. Think Carter, Obama, Biden. But otherwise, you gotta appeal to the lowest common denominator, the selfish self interest of people, and recognize how infantilized the American culture has become.
