Protests are great, but the law must be enforced to stop Trump. Trump, the Republican party, Republicans in Congress, six of the nine justices on the Supreme Court, ICE agents, and Musk with his DOGE ARE CRIMINALS as insurrectionists who violate federal law (18 U.S. Code § 2383). They must be stopped. The good news is that the law can now be enforced to quickly begin the stop in 15 states under total control of Democrats by passing a new state law modeled after the federal law (18 U.S. Code § 2383).

Read my post for a solution to stop Trump.

https://williamlmiller.substack.com/p/how-to-stop-trump-republicans-and

Irrefutable evidence proves that the criminals in the Trump regime including ICE agents violate the law against insurrection by forcefully and willfully acting against the laws of the United States including rejecting and violating The First Amendment or the laws against obstructing government operations. ICE agents illegally arrest people for expressing their ideas and opinions freely or for being an elected member of government trying to do their duties such as peacefully inspecting ICE facilities.

When any of those 15 states act to pass the proposed new state law, the next time ICE agents enter that state, they should be arrested so more illegal grabs of people in the United States and deportations without due process in court or illegal arrests of city mayors as happened in New Jersey to the Mayor of Newark.

Professor Reich, as you know, the ACLU, Democracy Forward, CREW and other organizations have filed hundreds of successful lawsuits against Trumps lawless executive orders and have won in court, serving as our best line of defense against this dictatorship. These and other important resistance organizations depend upon their tax exempt IRS status to do their work. Last December HR9594 was introduced, which would enable the Treasury department to rescind IRS status of non-profits without a hearing or recourse. The language referenced terrorist organizations, but it was widely recognized it could apply to any non profit. It passed the House before many realized what was happening.

This language has now been inserted into the big budget bill currently under discussion in Congress. It is absolutely CRITICAL that this language be removed. I have written to most of the Senate Appropriation Committee members to stand against this and urge others to do the same...

It will take a second layer of resistance . Make sure to write your Congress Critters and plead with them to do the right thing and vote against this language as well as the rest of this catastrophic, cruel bill. Most members of Congress pay no attention to people who don't live in their district/State. And rethugs do not consider Democratic Voters in their own State/districts to actually be their constituents but many of them have the wind up now.

Per Judd Legum of Popular Information:

Tucked away on page 380 is a provision that would give the Trump administration a powerful new tool to silence dissent.

The provision would grant the Treasury Secretary the power to terminate the tax-exempt status of any nonprofit group they deem a "terrorist supporting organization." A "terrorist supporting organization" is any nonprofit that provides "material support" to a designated terrorist group. The term "material support" is broadly defined, and includes "any service," "expert advice," or "personnel" — regardless of whether that support is connected to violent acts. Nor is there any standard of evidence regarding what kind of information the Treasury Secretary can consider when deciding whether a nonprofit provided "material support."

The Treasury Secretary only needs to notify the nonprofit of the impending designation. They can decline to describe the "material support" the nonprofit allegedly provided if the Treasury Secretary decides "disclosure of such description would be inconsistent with national security or law enforcement interests."

Thank you for this clarification, William. We now know that signing a letter of protest is sufficient grounds for arrest. A donation to an entity so designated might constitute "material support." Even the possibility of enforcement of such a law would suffice to discourage protest. Donald Trump and his accomplices want to terrorize us. They already are trying to do that in fact, but the legislation would cement their actions into the law of the land.

It was an important victory in North Carolina but the efforts of the Republicans there to overturn a valid election may yet serve as a template for other states with more a complaisant local and federal judiciary, like Texas.

In North Carolina, an attempt to remove the power of the Democratic governor, Josh Stein, to make appointments to the State Board of Electors has been thwarted for the time being.

https://apnews.com/article/north-carolina-governor-legislature-elections-board-auditor-44db0cb156c701577b9cb2d22b1d135f

While North Carolina is still recovering from the effects of hurricane Helene, the Trump administration has cut funding for 25 water science centres in the United States Geological Service. Among the centers’ most important functions is their role in flood warnings. USGS monitors water levels in a river and shares that data with the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS determines if the precipitation levels in a coming storm combined with water levels in a river will result in flooding or top a dam. If there’s a risk, flood warnings are issued.

Why would anyone in North Carolina vote Republican?

I've asked the same question when trumps administration cut funding for the Colorado River which is the major water source for people in Arizona, Nevada and California. Without enough water, why would anyone in those states support his administration which seeks to cripple this precious resource that they so desperately rely on just so they could put more money in their own pockets?

No one in any of these states should vote republican on that merit alone, but talk to one of them MAGA assholes and they say, "oh, that's just hype, we will never run out of water."

Trump's wealthy backers, like Elon Musk for example, are well aware of the risks of global warming because it presents a risk to their businesses and therefore their immense fortunes. WOW! Just WOW! I dreaded looking at my emails this morning, but when I did, 1440 news informed me that an original Magna Carta from 1300 had been discovered in Harvard archives! King Edward I signed this one. The first was signed by King John in 1215. The Magna Carta established the principle that no one - NOT EVEN A MONARCH - is above the law. This 1300 version signed by King Edward I called the Confirmation of the Charters reaffirmed King John's. Then Professor Reich brings this amazing news and shoot, my coffee tastes better and I now have a little spring in my step! I will be at a NO KINGS protest on June 14. Shame on the military for agreeing to march in the streets with tanks and such following! We are not a dictatorship - yet - and I hope we never will be and our military should have stood up and told the orange man NO! It sickens me to think we would have something like that on our streets here in our country! Hats off to Bernie Sanders! I love this man! Helping these young progressives take the reins is so very important. He was always the smartest guy in the running and I hate that more people did not see that. It is time for the older Senators and Representatives who have been glued to their seats in the House and Senate to stand down and let our younger people in there. We have some really great young people that are eager to lead. Let them do it! As far as the orange man's cruel and inhumane bill, I hope it sinks spectacularly! I have written and called my politicians but since they are the orange man's toadies, I know how they will vote! I am encouraged when I see Democrats winning in these elections!
