I'm sincerely asking: Are there any legal barriers that would stop Trump from issuing pardons to ICE personnel?

JP4M's avatar

If the state of Minnesota prosecutes them, they would not be able to have federal pardons, individually or as a group, or in any way at all, federally. State prosecutions are immune from federal pardons.

Trump has been pressuring Colorado to free Tina Peters, an election official convicted of giving access to election computers to unauthorized people in an effort to prove election fraud. There was NO election fraud! Peters was sentenced to 9 years by a Colorado court, and is now serving that time. Trump has been withholding funding and has moved or shut federal offices and services in an effort to pressure Colorado into releasing Tina and or turning her over to federal prison where she could be released. So far Colorado has remained strong, and Tina remains in one of our prisons. The pressure continues.

Not my area but Noem has a history. We know this because it’s in her book. The same day she killed puppy Cricket, she also killed their goat because it “chased children, butted them, and smelled bad.” Stephen Colbert deadpanned…”speaking for everybody who’s ever been around goats…if those traits meet the legal definition of ‘dangerous, a threat, or injurious to life, limb, or property,’ killing any goat would always be legally justified.” And now we’re here. A US citizen with a concealed-carry permit for his firearm had it confiscated before being shot to death. Where is NRA? https://southdakotasearchlight.com/2024/05/02/noems-dog-killing-was-bad-but-consider-the-goat/. https://sdlegislature.gov/Statutes/40-1-1.

The NRA ceased being a gun rights/safety organization 30 years ago. Its sole main purpose now is to launder money from Russian oligarchs into republican superPACs with the express goal of instilling a fascist right wing dictatorship in America. They will remain silent.

Laurie Blair's avatar

NRA 'just' wants to make money for the gun manufacturers. they don't care about who gets hurt or killed.

Alan Goldhammer's avatar

No. Admittedly, they are protecting themselves but they have spoken out because the government defense that federal agents can kill anyone who is carrying a gun is dangerous to gun owners everywhere.

Laurie Blair's avatar

And unarmed people. Too.they did not even allow the victim to show his gun license they reached in and took his gun from his pocket, threw him on the ground. Beat the Hell out of him,(all six thugs), then proceeded to shoot him 10 times, which is beyond illegal. The crazed "juvenile" in chief approves of such law breaking. He must go. They were shooting even when he lay silent and motionless. Hideous. And they now stalk Blue states. To kill more. He is a terrorist with a terrorist regime. The child Rapist billionaires have him raiding our treasury and his criminal army now is on a killing spree. Shut down the funding of this carnage! shut down the government, National Strike, even for a week at a time. Stop feeding the beast

Carol Glassman's avatar

The article from the Guardian, but it doesn't answer the question: when The shot him how did they know he had a concealed weapon if it was concealed? When did his cell phone become a weapon? It's an ordinary policeman shot someone or waving a cell phone, he would be taken off the job up for an internal investigation while his weapon would be confiscated. I would hope. What punishment will his ICE receive? He should go to jail for murder. All lives matter.

Michael Scott's avatar

They murdered him but he shouldn’t have brought a gun to a peaceful protest . I’m in no way excusing their evil but That is exactly what the fascist want so they can say “ see they are coming with guns “

ISOequanimity's avatar

I respectfully disagree. He had a concealed-carry permit. Unlike the protesters in MI who openly brandished AK-47s without interference.

Carol Glassman's avatar

"Minnesota is an open carry state, but it requires a permit to carry, which covers both open and concealed, for handguns in public. Permit holders may legally carry openly, but they must abide by restrictions, such as not carrying in schools, government buildings, or private property with signage."

Pretti was a law abiding citizen. He was ruthlessly murdered. Most people who have concealed weapon permits, put on their firearms the way they put on their shoes in the morning. That doesn't mean they are going to use them, it's a precaution. It is also illegal, right.

Gingbos's avatar

I also disagree. He was part of their official neighborhood watch, which was the reason he had it to begin with. Doesn't do much good if you don't, at least, have it available. Plus, he had every right to.

Thomas's avatar

Two key points to remember: 1) Trump has a limited time remaining in office. 2) There is no statute of limitations on murder.

I remind my MAGA representative of this. "Your side will not be in power forever. Accountability is coming." His ugly mug is looking much more tired and stressed these days. GOOD!

Krish's avatar

Thats the problem - democrats are closeted republicans who under pretense of being nice melt away when it comes to actually holding people and institutions to account. See what Obama and his attorney Holder did - not a single banker that stole in 2008 financial crisis went to jail, in fact they worked to shore up thugs like Jamie Dimon while maximizing jail times for blacks and deportations of hispanics.

Alan Goldhammer's avatar

Let us not quarrel with each other. Now is the time for all of us to stand together. Regardless of what Democrats did in the past, they represent the best chance to get rid of the monsters Trump has created - once the monsters are gone, then reform will be appropriate.

The only remedies I know of is for the Congress to either trigger the 25th amendment to oust the Republican Criminal-in-Chief, because he's incapable of doing his duty to us - we the people, and to the U.S. Constitution, and the rule of law - or else they need to IMPEACH & CONVICT (both trump & vance would be appropriate, I think & their speaker, if that's possible??). Tell all Representatives & Senators to do their duty to act responsibly in this dire emergency - we the people demand it!

Loren's avatar

Problem with the 25th amendment is that tRump's cabinet has to agree and sign off on it... I don't see that happening ... :(

Catherine Logsdon's avatar

Trump would fire, investigate, indict, jail any of his cabinet who tried to implement the 25th.

Loren's avatar

Yes, and let him fire, jail.... more proof of the necessity, but it won't speed up the process... :(

Harvey Kravetz's avatar

Trump operates as though laws exist only to be broken. His entire life has taught him that violations bring no consequences—so why would he suddenly start complying now? He's learned that judges can be purchased or influenced, and today he's streamlined the process: he simply appoints judges based on their loyalty to him rather than to the law.

Piccy's avatar

Nope. As we've already seen, trumo can and WILL pardon whomever he pleases, consequences be damned

Patricia Dempsey's avatar

But is there anything to prevent the state of Minnesota from conducting an investigation of their own and following it through to conviction or will the fact that they appear to be protected and the investigations being taken over by the FBI in Good's case and CBP in Pretti's case? I know there has been a suit filed asking that records be preserved but do we even know the names of the murderer of Alex Pretti? I saw even Fox News was pushing back yesterday having clearly seen the gun removed from his waistband before shots were fired... Dare we hope this is a bridge too far?

JP4M's avatar

He would be able to pardon if they were prosecuted federally, but if a state court prosecutes them, he cannot free them. Still, the state must find a way to be certain nobody else can pardon them.

I need to know more about that possibility. He is furious that he cannot pardon a person I Colorado I believe, because she was certain estate court.

JP4M's avatar

With all of the videos available, I expect an identification of the murderer of Alex Pretti will come known.

California could prosecute the ICE agent who shot and killed Keith P., Jr., as I see it. I hope they know who shot him.

Ari C's avatar

It’s out. He’s identified.

Gail E's avatar

He lost his demand to release Tina Peters from a Colorado prison after her conviction on state charges for attempting to meddle with the 2020 election on Trump's behalf. He can issue a "pardon" for her but it means nothing and has no legal force.

STATE charges, I believe.

Kira Thomsen-Cheek's avatar

And even if there *were* a legal barrier, wouldn't he just blow by it? Like the administrative warrants in Minneapolis that are not legal, but the Trump admin is fighting a stay in court? (I think I have that right. IANAL and things are moving very fast.)

JudithMontreal's avatar

I have a question about complicity for politicians and those in the White House cabinet who are implicated in the ICE deaths; false reporting, denial of facts, tampering with evidence, covering up the crimes, lying to the public, etc, are they not complicit and/or guilty of aiding and abetting these murders/murderers?

What about being willfully blind and "neglectful", sending out untrained goons to attack citizens, break down doors, beat them up in the streets, leading to numerous breaches of the law and to homicide? This govt is responsible for all of this mess, not to mention the other unlawful acts they flout daily.

Take their guns away---Individuals involved directly with handling crowds who are not members of our local police agencies shouldn't have the need to be armed. In other countries "The vast majority of officers are instead equipped with other items for personal defense, such as speedcuffs, extendable "ASP" batons, and incapacitant sprays such as PAVA pepper spray or CS spray. ICE shouldn't be allowed to carry firearms. The undisciplined tactics of these morons represent a far worse danger to the public than the people they are supposedly trying to detain.

JP4M's avatar

Because of the danger the agents cause, not only should they be banned from having any kind of weapon, they should be totally banned. With the banning, their masks, weapons, and uniforms would not be needed and would be collected officially, it seems, never to be used again. Can states a them from entering the state? I know they can be asked not to be sent.

Devaluing the dollar won't deal a fatal blow to the current regime; after all, it’s the general public who suffers when import prices rise. A more effective approach would be dumping U.S. Treasuries, which would make it harder for the U.S. to finance its spending through debt. Denmark is already offloading its U.S. treasuries, and Norway is considering it—and while Bessent scoffed at Denmark's move, it would be no small matter if the entire EU and Japan joined in.

The administration offered to de-escalate federal ICE and Border Patrol presence in Minnesota if Walz complied with the following demands:

Access to Voter Rolls: Provide the Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division with full access to Minnesota's unredacted state voter registration records to assist in identifying noncitizens on the rolls.

Welfare and Healthcare Data: Share state records related to Medicaid and food assistance programs (like SNAP) to investigate potential fraud.

Repeal Sanctuary Policies--

Rescind state or local "sanctuary" policies that limit cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration agents.

Federal Cooperation: Actively support and collaborate with ICE officers conducting enforcement operations within the state.

These conditions are sick! Noem is using political pressure as leverage to get what they want from Minnesota. Trump lost that state all 3 times he tried to run for the Presidency. He sees Minnesota as a key to victory in 2028. All the pain, all the suffering we've witnessed in that Northern tired state was done intentionally to force state officials to comply with the desires of a sick administration in Washington. It's odd that our President has continually made efforts to give states more power in their decision making process. When one such state is happy with that premise, Trump attempts to yank the rug from under the governor's feet. Perhaps Donnie would find his efforts better served if all people with brown eyes were forced to wear on their coats, a 5 pointed star. It worked for his mentor----

Then the fake populist came along with his ignorant fascist scapegoating and lies and people found it "refreshing" or "entertaining", never realizing some things are worth saving, and some damage is irreversible. Laurel Taylor's avatar

yes, but youve also paid your taxes to your state and country to fund these atrocities. good money after bad?? screw the world cup.

Jody's avatar

I didn’t CHOOSE to pay taxes to fund all the work that has gone into preparing for the World Cup games, any more than I choose to pay for ICE or Kristi Noem’s private jets or Trump’s golf outings. If you paid taxes in the US, you’re funding those things, too.

Laurel Taylor's avatar

yes. we all are unwilling funders. i'm saying, dont allow the fact that youve already paid into this to be a reason not to boycott the FIFa games. they are a huge part of the kissing the boot club.

I get it, and I wasn’t planning to attend the games or buy the merch but my city has spent a tremendous amount of time and money on this and it’s a source of civic pride. There will be economic repercussions for us, a blue city in a red state and most of us are not Trump supporters. And the fans will be disappointed. All I’m saying is that it won’t affect Trump as much as it will affect people in this city who don’t support him.

I’ve served in the US Army and as a police officer. This ragtag bunch of untrained and undisciplined thugs are an embarrassment to law enforcement. They would never make it into an actual police department or the military. And they should definitely be prosecuted for their wanton cruelty and flaunting the law.

Jonni's avatar

Jonathan Ross was in the National Guard and was deployed to Iraq as a machine gunner. He knows the rules of engagement. He started with ICE in 2015. Before that he worked with Border Patrol and has SWAT and FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force experience. It’s not that they are insufficiently trained, it’s what the f*ck have they been trained to do? Then J D Vance on behalf of this administration gives them absolute immunity even though no existing law gives them absolute immunity. License to kill.

Laurel Taylor's avatar

there are 'bad apples' in even the military, so JR's resume means nothing. he is still a thug. the majority of the 'new ones' are recruited from the armpits of the country, and untrained [47 days???] and egged on to commit violence. this 'admin' is evil to the core.

Jonni's avatar

That is the point. Members of Congress are proposing better training and body cameras as the solution to funding ICE. Body cameras will make the ICE agents jobs easier. They won’t have to hold their phones to create content. Training is not sufficient. Even highly trained agents have been given PERMISSION to murder whoever they hate. The only solution is to STOP FUNDING ICE.

Touchstone's avatar

Funding ICE should end. Period. We should not be paying for a Gestapo of thugs who injure, murder and kidnap people including 5-year/old little kids. And it’s clear from Bondi’s letter to MN governor that it’s not about immigration but getting our voter rolls so they can ID who to go after in retribution — just as Venezuela wasn’t about drugs, but using and risking our soldiers in our military for corporate interests: oil. Trump and his administration are despicably evil fascists.

Polly Armstrong's avatar

Better training....this has to be a sick joke. These thugs are turned loose on American streets to kill and beat up. These are the goons who stormed the Capitol and have committed crimes in our country for years. No surprises here!!!!! What a tragedy!!!

Diane Bagues's avatar

Yes, my understanding is that standards were lowered at the same time.

Jody's avatar

I’ll do my best to see that Jonathan Ross and the other murderers are prosecuted, but what power do we have other than public outcry? Will Trump, JD Vance, Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, and the others who had a hand in this be brought to justice? We can only hope, but I’m not holding my breath.

To Gaynor: re former Nazis , that’s true…there are programs on German TV about families of former Nazis .

One ,a teacher, whose father had been the commandant of Auschwitz…and who received toys made by innmates. He said, as a child he was unaware of what and who existed on the other side of the high Wall separating the (relatively now quiet) entrance to Auswitz itself, from the garden connected to the kommandants home.

The war ended, the horrors of the other side were revealed when he was a teenager, and like many German young people, discovered exactly what and who the gentle father he knew, actually was and did.

Reactions were different…his was horror, and now as a middle aged man, he travels among German highschools, talking in programs set up to teach, and discuss Germany’s rôle during World War II, including the camps.

I thought myself how shocking it would be to learn your own people would be capable of such horror. A good example, and lesson, is to find a good and dependable description of American behaviour in Vietnam Nam civilian villages, during the Vietnam war.

My own father, an officer in the Second World War came home with stories.

I will be 94 this spring, and I treasure long conversations with an equally ancient German friend whose family like many others kept silent to be safe,in the early days of Hitler.

How many of us now are keeping quiet, to keep safe, to protect our families and communities. These choices are not easy.

I admire the folks hitting the streets in Minnesota….it is not an easy choice.

Laurel Taylor's avatar

today, silence=complicity. and, no one is safe, except for power in numbers.

Jody's avatar

I agree that speaking out is important, and I do, but it is a very difficult choice when your family is threatened, when you can lose your job or your freedom or your life.

Laurel Taylor's avatar

i understand. i have made peace and preparations for that fact. unfortunately. i cannot sit quietly, and i will NOT live in such a 'society' they plan. so, i take my chances and hope that the more that step up, the faster 'they' fall...

Polly Armstrong's avatar

Thank you for your fine words, Granny. Your voice is an important reminder for all of us that the human race is capable of horrific acts of violence. We are witnessing this on our American streets right NOW. We don't even need another WWII to remind us of this terrifying fact.

Amy London's avatar

Completely agree. This is utter and complete chaos.

Gaynor Obrien's avatar

That s the two white innocents... there are many POC that no one cares about.

Kelly Ann O'Brien's avatar

I care and I protect them as best I can. I live in a community of color. I fear for them every day. I would put myself in front of them if I needed to. BTW, I am a white born American from an immigrant family who believes all should be welcomed here. That's what Anerica was built upon.

Jody's avatar

I care. I march and protest for them all.

Tina's avatar

It's not WE who don't care. There is little reporting of their names, other than Kilmar Garcia. I'm just pointing out your "no one cares about".

Gaynor Obrien's avatar

Little reporting of their destruction is my point even tho I m out of polite ways to speak about these atrocities. I did not want to say it but I am limited nowadays with polite articulation...outrage has clouded my brain.

It’s true that the deaths of people of color don’t always make the headlines. I’ve read that 30-40 people have died in ICE custody and I don’t know all their names or their stories, but when I find out about them I say their names and try to find out what I can about their lives. Then I channel that anger and pain into doing something to help the living so that their deaths were not in vain.

Dorothy King's avatar

I get it, Gaynor. I'm well beyond outrage and trying to organize in Canada from the fallout of u.s. actions on the rest of the world. We have to start seeing "the other" as the brothers and sisters that we are. Best to all of you fighting so hard.

Gaynor Obrien's avatar

All I can do I'd bitch about it.

They also murdered a good man outside his home in California. That was in December 2025.

What was his name and what city in California?

Harvey Hild's avatar

You should change to "Stormtrooper-Killers" to your description.

Harvey Hild's avatar

Maybe "Killer ICE."

We just had our Australia/Invasion Day protests. Tens of thousands massed in peaceful protest in every captial city despite the heat. None were killed. I shouldn't have to be grateful for this - yet I am. USA. WTF?

In light of the execution of Alex Pretti in Minnesota, who Trump couldn’t care less about, Trump is complaining about the kickoff rule in the NFL. This POS loves seeing people in pain up to and including death. The rule was changed because high speed collisions end in serious injuries up to and including paralysis.

Kathy Hughes's avatar

Part of Trump’s sociopathy is he’s a sadist. He loves watching other people get hurt, especially if they oppose him, and he can watch the spectacle while keeping his own tiny little hands clean.

Anne Trudell's avatar

And the Epstein files probably reveal that sadism of his, possibly even to the point of a victim's death (many have been threatened by death if they spoke out).

GinnyIckle's avatar

Court testimony in some of the records released tells of him raping children.

Jennifer Movido's avatar

Yes he does as depicted in Sascha Rileys audio account in the Epstein files

Richard Thomas's avatar

And he’s a total scaredy cat. Look for the video of Trump at his desk when an eagle next to him flaps its wings. Trump immediately fell out of his chair onto the floor cuz he was so scared!!!

He was such a chicken - no wonder he had a deferment from Vietnam cuz he had bone spurs.

Kathy Hughes's avatar

I’ve seen that video. It’s shows his fundamental cowardice. The other thing Trump hates are sharks!

As an Australian, I am watching the events in Minneapolis with a heavy heart but a clear resolve. The execution-style deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good by federal agents are an affront to the values of democracy and rule of law that have long underpinned the Australia-US alliance.

While I cannot vote in your midterms, I can act as an international lever. I am specifically focusing on Points 7 and 8:

Challenging Coercion: Australia knows the cost of trade weaponization. I will be urging our leaders and business chambers to coordinate with the EU on the Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI). If the Trump administration uses federal force to bypass civil rights at home and sovereign rights abroad (like the Greenland crisis), they must face a unified global trade response.

Economic Shift: Australia’s economy is currently outperforming much of the world, but we remain over-exposed to the USD. I am joining the call to diversify my own international transactions away from the Greenback. A currency backed by a regime that 'purges' its own medical staff and mothers is no longer a stable reserve for Australian interests.

We see the 'good trouble' you are making on the ground. We will make our own from the outside to ensure the light you've lit in your windows is seen across the Pacific.

I will continue to pray for you!!!!!!

GrrlScientist's avatar

Professor Reich: ah HA! something i can do as a resident of europe: i will demand the acitvation of the Anti-Coercion Instrument! THANK YOU for suggesting this!

last night, i finished streaming the netflix series, World War II in Color, and one thing that REALLY jumped out at me was the assertion (especially, REPEATEDLY, by the japanese and their government) that americans are weak and "soft" and would not be in any war for the long term, even to benefit their own nation; (it was implied) that americans use technology to fight wars, but few of their soldiers are willing to fight. it saddens me to know this sentiment rings true even today: we are more concerned about keeping our POSSESSIONS than we are about protecting our NATION, we prefer to be slaves to THINGS rather than to safeguard our SOULS. the story of the french and how they freed themselves from the nazis (after bowing down to their tyranny for FOUR YEARS) was absolutely inspiring to me. This story explains a LOT of their protests, which are frequent (to my american eyes) and often, very clever.

Laurel Taylor's avatar

yes, and also the number of people (confirmed as non-bots) that still support this BS admin is staggering. i live in a 'purple' area which is redder by the week, and this area would in no way stand up as MN is. the vast portion of America is poorly educated and spoiled.

Gaynor Obrien's avatar

We re in trouble.

Kathy Hughes's avatar

Regrettably, you’re correct. We have always regarded possessions, even other possessions which were actually our fellow humans, far more seriously than people.

All pie in the sky ideas, good but likely ineffective in my opinion. As a 76 year old that does not drive, my groceries and other items come to my porch from Amazon and Walmart.

There are things dimocrats (not a typo) can do but they rather sit around it seems to me. Democrats can do plenty, even if they cannot pass legislation. Fuss at them constantly. First, do not approve any trump appointment, Second, do not vote for any republican legislation, Third, replace Schumer and Jeffries in “leadership” and the corporately controlled DNC, Fourth, aggressive action such as marketing, ad campaigns, and press conferences on the Capital steps. There is plenty to be done and stop worrying about faux bipartisanship. Democrats should be running television ads reporting on prices filmed in grocery stores every day, interviewing customers about their power bills, standing in fields of unsold soy beans, perhaps pig pens in North Carolina, discussing drug prices with pharmacists, and billboards with pictures of trump and epstein. No more strongly worded missives. Trump does something every day. Stop being the mamby pamby party. ChatGPT will give them an ad campaign. https://chatgpt.com/s/t_69761ab459e88191a2c59c20a46a66ac

Jonni's avatar

Other grocery stores deliver.

Why dismiss actions we can take just to complain about what Democrats should do? We all need to do everything we can. Please.

Laurel Taylor's avatar

i believe Parkin is saying that we should be pressuring the Dims to do MORE, and still do what we can as individuals. i agree that the Dims are definitely slack.

Laurel Taylor's avatar

do you have a neighbor or family member who can pick up your groceries from a local source and drop off for you? or, call other stores in your city and ask for delivery options...as this gets worse, they can survive by adapting...mutual aid networks can be organized from home or by talking to neighbors.

Parkin Hunter's avatar

Easier said than done. The closest thing to a grocery store in my town of 367 is a Dollar General, and not one of the funky new ones with the supposedly fresh produce. I detest Walmart and Amazon because of their politics and the way they treat their employees. However, I generously tip the Walmart delivery drivers so i am trying to do my part. They have to work and eat too. The minimum wage here is 7.25 per hour. These companies succeed because they have great business models that allow people like me to live independently. Not enough is said about that. We will all do what we can, but I will not give up my independence.

Joanne's avatar

Parkin,

All too often it's overlooked that there are many people whose living circumstances don't offer remedies to important issues of the day which are readily available to others. I share your dislike of Walmart and Amazon. Walmart and Smith's are the only major retail/grocery stores in my city, population about twenty four thousand. I can, however, refuse to support Amazon. You are doing what you can to oppose the lawless government now in control and that is commendable. We, who value honor and integrity, shall prevail. Those whose value system is so distorted and twisted that they disdain humanity will lie in the dust of history, discarded for the worthless beings which they are. Always stand defending our freedoms. Patriotism is protecting people, not waving a flag and shouting USA.

Joanne

Everyone needs to call their delegations. Even if you live in state like mine, SC. Just called T. Scott, Graham, and Norman. My points on this call were the ad nauseam request to release the Epstein files, volume 2 of the taxpayer funded Jack Smith report, and ICE needs to stop harassing and murdering US citizens. I wish I had just said people. If course, they are all hiding behind voice mail. I have finally realized how much fun it is. Since it is South Carolina and their message says it, I also wished them a blessed day. Resisted saying bless your little hearts.

Over 400k people have signed on to commit to a general strike. 11 million committed to striking are needed for the strike to be successful. People from all walks of life are joining. Once there are enough people signed on the strike will start.

I would do this in a heartbeat except I'm retired.

Jonni's avatar

The website explains the roles retired people can play. This is the organizing phase. You can sign up to be in the loop and raise awareness. You can boycott billionaires and complicit corporations. During the strike you can provide mutual aid and financial support which can be from the money we save by only buying absolute necessities. Your heartbeat is welcomed.

Diane B's avatar

I’m retired and have only been buying necessities for years. I shop locally and do not support any billionaire parasite owned mega corporations. I call or email my representatives almost daily. I protest at organized protests and in other ways that I do not discuss online. We need a complete government SHUTDOWN. Not just DHS. It’s all horrible and destructive. No funding until impeachment of all of them is complete.

Tina's avatar

Thanks, I briefly looked it over and didn't see anything regarding retirees. I'll go look again. :)

Laurel Taylor's avatar

basically you dont participate in anything that funds the corporations that are killing us. not going to work is only a small part. no Amazon, no social media, buy as little as possible and only from local sources. local groups to spread info that dont involve SM. Mutual Aid Networks to help support each other, as Jonni explains, will be essential. i too am retired, i already boycott most corps and spend little, and will be working on the MANs next.

linguaclara's avatar

Hey Tina….retirement IS freedom finally to ENGAGE….you are lucky to be free of work now, still on your feet … and time to back up the courageous young folks

hitting the streets in spite of the responsibilities you no longer carry.

Use your stick, canes, crutches …wish I could …wring side of the planet.

GET OUT THERE!

Gregg Scott's avatar

It is pretty simple and not a hard thing to just lend a hand to the doing of it. If you know someone who is participating, give them your thanks and encouragement. Lots of ways to help!

LR's avatar

Thanks for this. What is happening to our country is heartbreaking, but sadly predictable when unfettered greed is the ultimate law of the land.

And please let us not forget the numerous other people ICE has killed. US citizens or not, their souls have just as much worth and their deaths were criminal actions perpetrated by this government.

Marlo's avatar

6 deaths in detention just this year. One immigrant saw the man being strangled. DHS tried to say it was a suicide. The medical examiner said “homicide.” per Washington Post.

30 deaths in detention last year.

Chris David's avatar

I've seen the marks on Epstein's neck and read the publicly available evidence. I believe, on the basis of publicly available evidence, and using my decades long experience specialising in community medicine, that Epstein did not take his own life. His murder was covered up, clumsily to say the least. The rising number of deaths of people held in detention by the Trump regime is no coincidence.

Marlo's avatar

I agree. It was all planned out. 1. AG Barr arrives to speak with Epstein TWO days prior to his death. Who ELSE did he talk to?

2. In this top notch high security prison it is inconceivable the;

• cameras weren’t working;

• the guards fell asleep & didn’t check on him;

• he had TWO broken bones in his neck which hanging wouldn’t cause;

• his room-mate wasn’t in the room;

• his room-mate said there is no way someone could get enough height to hang themself from the bunk;

• Epstein was about to go to court where he could spill the beans to the entire multinational money laundering corruption that involved Russia, Israel, JP Morgan & which caused the economic disaster in 2008. (See Zev Shalev’s “The Great Heist” on Substack)

As a German I will write a letter to Friedrich Merz to take action and distance himself from the 47th.

I know there is fear now in the US. But I do remember the days I walked against the East German government in Leipzig on Mondays.

There was fear. But fear became courage when thousands walked together against the communist regime. The Wall came down.

You need to know that you have the support of the majority of Germans.

I signed a petition to boycott the World Cup in the US this morning…

When a society organises what are in effect death squads and mobilises them specifically against the perceived political enemies of a ruling clique, it no longer deserves to be called a democracy.

As a Brit who once respected the US an what it nominally stood for, I'm in shock at what the country has become.

It's not so much the existence of Trump and his ghouls that is so deeply disturbing. It's the fact that 15-20% of Americans are core MAGA supporters. That's at least one in five people, and it's far too high.

It's not as if what Project 2025 stands for was some kind of secret.

I live in the UK. Since Trump I have where I can boycotted US goods. I will not travel there. On the latter, I saw an advertisement for Tampa on the tube (subway). How odd. Boycotting is one thing and fear another. With visiting I have moved from the former to the latter. Why would I visit a State who voted for someone who insults my country, has expressed intense dislike of foreigners, arrests people and sends them to hell holes without due process and where enforcement agents can even kill the most normal of their own citizens with impunity?

I know you and I still retain an image of the old America. However, substitute country X for America and figure whether you would want to visit. Blimey you’d probably cheer if America attacked it in the name of freedom and democracy.
