Friends,
Yesterday I told you about Jennifer Abruzzo, who for the first time in decades is enforcing the labor laws to ensure that workers have a fair chance to form a union.
Today I want to share with you the video of my recent conversation with Nse Ufot, a leader in the on-the-ground fight for democracy in Georgia who’s building grassroots people power.
Nse is an incredible organizer who describes her nonprofit, the New Georgia Project, as a “tech startup inside a civil rights and voting rights organization” that’s making huge strides to build collective power for working people in Georgia.
NGP is one of America’s most important grassroots voting-rights organizations in one of the nation’s most important battleground states. Thanks to countless hours of work, NGP has now registered over 600,000 young people and people of color to vote in all 159 of Georgia’s counties.
The organization’s efforts during the 2020 election were critical in helping to flip the state blue for Joe Biden, as well as Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.
During my conversation with Nse, we discuss how to continue building long-term movements that put power in the hands of the people.
Nse shared insights into NGP’s work to combat voter suppression, motivate non-registered voters to participate in our democracy, and get the citizens of Georgia to keep coming back to the polls to make their voices heard in every election.
I know it’s hard to feel optimistic these days, but my hope is that this conversation will inspire you as it did me as we head into the midterms in just a few short weeks. As you are well aware, the stakes for our country could not be higher.
My thanks to Nse and all of her colleagues and volunteers at the New Georgia Project for all the incredible work they do for our democracy.

I'm also in the "old" category and have been hoping young people would get involved in our elections. This young lady was AWESOME! I hope people of all ages take this upcoming election seriously - and, that the leadership roles across America start filling with people like Nse.
What a great video! I too, remember the Bush v Gore debacle in 2000 as a real turning point for me as far as politics go. The election was clearly stolen right in plain view and the public was supposed to just accept it. There was no civil way to challenge it. The 'Brooks Brothers' gang showed up in Broward County appearing on the streets as supposedly legitimate citizens, to intimidate and disperse those citizens who were demanding that the recount not be stopped. these mostly white young men were dressed in a conservative uniform ; all alike; hence the 'Brooks Brothers' name. This in Florida, where George W. Bush's brother was governor, and there were things going on which were not quite right.
