Every single act of corruption makes the next one a little easier. And then they come a little faster. And faster. Others, seeing the corruption has no consequences, want to get in on the action. And so the corruption spreads. The media, with corruption in their own houses, if not by the reporters, the journalists, the editors, then by the owners who stay silent out of fear and greed, greed and fear. With some brave exceptions.

It’s been this way for a long, long time. Except it’s much worse now.

Our country is being run by a greedy monster with delusions of grandeur. With fascists at his side. Too many are joining in.

When will the people, all the people, rise up in anger, horror and rejection?

We are rising up. But we also are afraid of the next pass of the Trump Steam Roller. This has been a few years in the making. I don't think he's smart enough to pull off all of this on his own. Witness his first term, when he was falling all over himself. Now he has people behind him who are pulling the strings. And that's OK with him because he's making boatloads of money, thanks to them.

My mother used to tell me that I should get into elected office. I always refused because I told her that the real power was BEHIND the throne, not ON it. When you're behind the throne, you're out of the spotlight, away from the slings and arrows. But you still get all the benefits and the power. If you're the one sitting ON the throne, you get vilified and cursed, and you may be the target of violence. In return, you make a lot of money. So, you're willing to take all those chances. You are the decoy duck. But the payment is worth it.

I'm not saying that Trump is a sweet guy when he's out on his own. Not at all. He's always been a devious, underhanded shyster. But now he has the power to exert really dangerous activity because he has all these wealthy goons behind him. They helped get him into the White House. They are using him, and once he starts getting into legal trouble (if that ever happens...), they will abandon him and disappear into the woodwork again.

By the time he gets in legal trouble, they'll take that power for themselves and their kind. Musk and company have all of this information, Trump's cabinet members now have access to highly classified information. Extremist ideologues will want their turn. Democracy can only stop them if democracy holds.

As a Tolkein fan, I think about Frodo and Sam, little hobbits with Good on their side. They prevailed, alongside quite a diverse crowd committed to working for the Good. We have different capabilities, different spheres of influence, different worldviews and interests---but we can unite because we want the Good.

In addition, we can win over some who are slow to catch on about this administration's corrosive influence. I've tried and can see they'll let go of their hope in the Evil ones if we offer them respect for their legitimate concerns and places alongside us. Some of them also want the Good to prevail in America.

Some from other lands---Canada, Europe, etc. are trying to help. Boycotting US travel and goods is the best way they communicate their alarm and distaste.

If the federal law on insurrection had been enforced, Trump would be in jail and never elected.

Read my post.

But there is a solution to now stop Trump, Republicans in Congress, and justices on the Supreme Court who are criminal felons that violated federal law by supporting his ongoing insurrection that began on Jan6, continued in 2024, and continues in 2025. “We the people” should demand Democrats in control of a few state governments begin to implement the solution which can be completed after Democrats win in 2028.

The extremes and 'our way insistence' get in our way. Now is the time for middle-ground muddlers to prevail, i.e. as opposed to those who clunk others on the head for not conceptualizing, thinking about, drawing the same conclusions they do. This organization must pull together Democrats, Independents, Republicans...with some "agnostics" welcome too! Democrats alone, with their typical policy agendas, can't pull us out of the mess we're in. And of course. Republicans as-is are a lost cause. Those of us who yearn for a better world, a world grounded in democracy, morality, and truth, both here and across the globe, must prevail.

And agreed, we need a diverse group of leaders to, well, lead the way.

Hopeful, in drumpf's one-track demagogue's mind his guiding principle is to destroy democracy in order to seize absolute power, which goal again has been established since his pathetic second inauguration to office. Refer to the core principles of any legitimate government, which are stated clearly in the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution: Justice, Domestic Tranquility, Common Defense, General Well Being, and The Blessings of Liberty. With his incessant lying and scheming and the backing of his power brokers, he has turned these ephemeral blessings into a deadly curse upon "We the People". The company that he swims with are among the world's sickest minds who feed off each other's power lust, whom Dr. Reich has pointed out for us. As the arch fascist Steve Bannon has suggested clearly, in order to subvert the people's minds the big lie must be pounded out daily until the resistance to that insidious power has been subdued. The pages of the U.S. Constitution supply the tinder for this band of arsonists to set the nation ablaze, again.

Yep. Here's my two cents: His personality can't tolerate guardrails so wants to off them all, which would cause the destruction of democracy. He wants to be like other strongmen leaders he admires (and we abhor) and rule over everyone while having big parades in his honor. He doesn't begin to understand what democracy's about. Trump will be in trouble if and when the American middle class starts to feel an economic squeeze. Till then this is all entertainment for them. A subject for conversation.

Trump brushes off legal problems because he can and has demonstrated that he can defeat legal attacks.

There is an important difference between worrying about a problem and actually enduring the problem. America is still mostly in the worrying stage. Trump's shadowy backers are trying to keep it that way as they play the GAME of who can gain the most power and wealth points. Trump is giddy over how much money he is personally accumulating. But in the grand scheme of America's vast wealth Trump's money is chump change. And , of course, Trump is getting to show the world just how much of a "bad-ass" he is. The tariff business is the current example of what I've just described.

I can't recommend this book enough. He survived the camps because he had a Friend. "I survived because I owed it to my friend Kurt to survive, to live another day so that I might see him again. One good friend can be your entire world. This, more than food we shared or warm clothes or medicine, was the most important thing. The best balm for the soul is friendship. And with that friendship, we could do the impossible". Eddie continued..."If you lose your morals, you lose yourself. Your food is not enough. There is no medicine for your morals. If your morals are gone, you go. Where there is life, there is hope. Even when all seems hopeless and there are no miracles, you can make them happen. With a simple act of kindness, you can save another person from despair, and that might just save their life. And this is the greatest miracle of all". Eddie is one of my main heroes and a source of inspiration. He lived to 101. I got Eddie's book from the library recently. He extols genuine friendship above all else. He and his friend Kurt helped each other survive! I consider Eddie one of my closest friends. I hope you are able to meet Eddie, Peggy. Hugs to you.

Peggy, for whatever good it does, many of us are still here, and we still care, even if we do not have decisive answers. We will do the best we can. Yes, I do know it is always with us somehow. Still, I must force myself to do other things before the day ends. I remain grateful for each person writing here to try to help.

When you do take a break briefly, or in whatever time you want to refresh yourself, do you think you could write some short, happy stories about your life of experiences, maybe from early years or the way things were in your growing up years? It could be fun for you to recall and fascinating for your grandchildren to read. At least in that precious time, your mind would be in that safe place. Many of us have loved hearing stories of family and friends. Sharing could be quite a gift you would give them. I love to learn of people’s

stories. It seems that there are often wonderful bonds strengthened in learning about other people’s lives. Your grandchildren might be amazed.

It’s possible that Trump may have already carried the country beyond the point where it can be reclaimed, Michelle. I don’t know that for certain, but it is one of the possibilities we need to keep in mind.

Unfortunately, consequences that might stop him can only be imposed by the Republican dominated Supreme Court, the Republican dominated House and Senate, and possibly the people who voted for him and those who didn’t vote at all.

There is the more distant possibility that the military might stop him by refusing to carry out any unconstitutional and unlawful actions that he might demand them. But that is more remote and wouldn’t necessarily remove him from office.

Additionally, even if Trump were removed somehow, perhaps beginning with the Democrats taking control of the House again, that would still leave Vance and Speaker Johnson in the line of succession. There’s the distinct chance that they might be even worse than him, and they certainly are younger.

Trump behaves as if the rule of law does not apply to him, and due to the outrageous decision of the Supreme Court, when he is in office he is not constrained by law. The Constitution was not written to constrain completely immoral individuals such as Trump and Project 2025. It was written in such a manner that it created a path for a brain eating worm like Trump to eat its way through finding and exploiting all of its weaknesses and loopholes. The Constitution of the post-colonial era was not written to constrain such an evil group of individuals such as we are dealing with now.

Plans are already in action to subvert the next upcoming election. Often the end of dictatorships occurs when the population rises up to dethrone a dictator/king. self-dealing. What the framers of the Constitution didn’t foresee is: a. one

of two political parties being entirely

corrupt, b. a corrupt majority on the Supreme Court and c. mainstream

media being owned by corrupt corporations.

If any one of those corrupt entities had not been corrupt, we wouldn’t be in this

mess. When this is over—and it will be over some day—we need legislation that

will prevent it from happening again. The corrupt republican party is at the heart of the whole thing and Putin partnered with the GOP at some point to

assist with corrupting the RNC. DT was

corrupt long before Putin and the Russian oligarchs used him and his real estate business to launder money.

We can’t afford to tolerate the wholesale

destruction of our government much longer because Climate Change is close

to being an emergency that must be addressed by our government in a very

big way. Our military recognizes Climate Change is a national security issue—

but they can’t address it when the GOP

In the early 1950s it was frightening when I heard about fears of Russia taking over our country. I recall reading the name in big letters, I think maybe with the backwards “R” on the black and white television set. Adults took care of it. Life continued, and I always knew that I needed to study, be responsible, and vote for the good of us all, but I still trusted that people who know more than I do would provide workable answers. Now, the more I learn, the more I question. Richard, thank you for your questions and the thoughts you have stimulated. I wish I had the answers. Caring about people and our Constitution is not sufficient on my part, but I plan to keep paying attention. I’m thankful for all of the people in other places who also. Are about us. It’s okay to wonder. It’s okay to ask. Although Trump is following the Project 2025 playbook, he is doing it in such a blatant and inept manner that he is causing the greatest number of people to join the opposition in the shortest period of time. Of course, we are frustrated that the Democratic party is unable to get its act together and that the Supreme Court has kneecapped itself by ruling that the president is exempt from the law during the time he is President. The Republicans are still drinking more and more Kool-Aid in order to maintain their hallucinations that this is good for the country when it really has to do with it being good for their own individual greedy ambitions.

GrrlScientist, as a nation, we have come through worst crises before. First, we had domination by King George and the British, and we overthrew them. Then we had a crisis that was even worse, the Civil War. We have had theGreat Depression, World War I, World War II, the Cuban missile crisis, and racist, ideology and white supremacy deeply entrenched in our government, law enforcement, and daily lives. As Martin Luther King had predicted “We shall overcome” and we did. From each crisis, there was a transition and even a transformation to a higher level of governance and functionality.

In this crisis, the enemy is within and not without. The same was true with McCarthyism. I am not a scholar of history, and I am a graduate of the same deficient educational system as many of us are, but from where I stand, the history of the United States is one of facing great existential threats, and overcoming them. The threat we face now is different than those we have faced in the past for much has changed over the centuries since our democracy was created. Thanks to the great leaps forward in communication worldwide we now have the opportunity to tap into some of the most brilliant minds on the planet today. However, to succeed in this clear and present danger, we as individuals and as a collective must move out of fear and reaction and into creative solutions and action. We have never faced a crisis like this one, but other countries have and in the end, the people triumph, and the country was all the better for it. When we despair, the MAGA’s gain ground when we become strong and assert ourselves, MAGA loses ground. We may not be able to see the end result of all of this, but we must always cling to the belief that we will prevail.

The harm is done by their failure to end the 'crime spree' when it is within their ability to do so. The massive financial lunacy they're enabling now affects everyone across the globe.

No one, as far as I am aware, has mentioned the CRIMES these legislators are committing. Why not? Why not go after them. It's not just about them failing to get re-elected. It's criminal negligence and much worse, perhaps even treason. It should be about them GOING TO JAIL. If they have some serious consequences to face, maybe these selfish asswholes will wake up.

You are right. Making money while serving as the president is breaking the emollients clause in the Constitution. That is another reason members of Congress are supposed to uphold their duty in our checks and balances.

Thanks, I was waiting for the Tea Pot Dome reference.

Why can't DOGE show us his tax filings?

He doesn't own the White House.. Is he allowed to remodel it in the looks of Mar A Lago? Tasteless excess if you ask me...Louis XVI before the guillotine.

On one news clip he compared himself to Al Capone for the judicial "harassment,"them he bragged about his "brilliant" lawyers.

If we can't get him locked up here, send him to El Salvador.

Tony Soprano would have been a better President and less corrupt too . It’s just a slow motion nightmare.

January 6 occurred because Trump was facing numerous legal challenges and indictments, and so attempted to stay in power to avoid the consequences of his illegal actions. We are rapidly approaching a time when the number and severity of legal challenges against Trump are probably going to be combined with an impeachment proceeding, possibly by this Congress, but more certainly by this next one. We don’t need to imagine, because we have the proof of history, that Trump will try to do something to overthrow the United States before he faces the consequences which are now far greater than in his first term.

Greed and fear. Congress has become a dysfunctional branch of the government. It no longer represents the majority of the population nor uses its powers to protect us. A few Democrats are loudly speaking out, some are speaking rather timidly and the others are "as quiet as a church mouse.” I could have never imagined this situation. The roots of this country were planted in a successful resistance to King George. Now we must reach back to that spirit and resist King Donald.

Because Congress is controlled, both House and Senate, by Republicans who have no spine and live to serve as Trump's lap dogs and personal servants. How high, Sir? On it, Sir. Did I do good, Sir? Pick me, Sir. Yes, Sir. Absolutely, Sir. Your wish is my command, Sir. Yes Sir, I pledge my loyalty, Sir. I worship you, Sir, truly. Yes, I have no self respect, Sir, only respect for you, my dear leader.

Trump was not eligible to be president ever again, he staged a coup and an insurrection. How is it that Brazil got their corrupt president Bolsanaro out of office and legally squared away within a year, AND barred from running again for office for another eight years, YET WE THE "GREAT UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" CAN'T DO JACK ABOUT TRUMP??? What a disgrace we have become!

I just want him dead, deader than dead! People say Trump has charisma. Huh? Where? Where is Trump's "charisma"? I hate his horrible, nasally, unmanly voice! I hate his manner of speaking! I hate the hideous, grating phrases that he uses, his word choices; his constant self-inflicted "victimhood"! His constant bullshit and lies. He's just so all-around unlikable!

I think we should all go to fortunetellers and have our futures read -- find out when good luck is going to return! And then report in here to compare what we have learned. It might be far more fruitful than trying to get our congresspeople to act!!!
